Description

This small self contained apartment is located in Drumcliffe, in the shadow of the majestic Benbulben mountain in an idyllic country setting with mature gardens and just off the Wild Atlantic Way route. The apartment is 5 miles (8km) north of Sligo town and 2 miles (3 km) away from the beautiful Lissadell beach. Several other beaches, including Rosses Point and Streedagh, are only minutes away by car. Yeats's grave is located 1 mile away and this apartment is located right in the centre of the Yeats country. There are golf courses, excellent fishing rivers, quiet country roads for cycling and peaceful walking tracks in this area. Benbulben, Truskmore and Knocknarea offer challenging mountain climbs. Horse riding can be enjoyed nearby. Strandhill and Streedagh beaches are famed for surfing. Glencar Waterfall is just across the border in County Leitrim (4 miles (6 km) away). There are excellent rivers close by for fishing.

There are lively pubs with traditional Irish music and excellent restaurants and cafes in the area, some of which are within walking distance. Given our proximity to the coast, this is an excellent base for water-based activities and boat trips can be arranged locally, to include trips to the deserted monastic settlement on the island of Innismurray. There is a public swimming pool in Sligo town and local hotels can be accessed for leisure facilities.

On the cultural side, Sligo has a multiplex cinema and is home to the famous Hawk's Well Treatre, as well as the Model Art Centre and Niland Gallery, which is an interesting and progressive gallery. Sligo museum and county library are worth a visit, as are the twin cathedrals in Sligo town.

The apartment is located adjacent to a family home and has its own entrance. It was recently refurbished. There are two double rooms, both of which are ensuites with power showers. There is a small kitchen/living room with TV, oven, microwave and washing machine. Fresh bedlinen and towels are provided. Highchair and travel cot available. Babysitters can be arranged.

A small welcome pack, including the owner's homemade brown bread and jam, is provided on arrival! There are board games and books to read. For longer stays, a cleaner is available. We have a "no shoes" policy in the apartment and provide indoor footwear.

The apartment is equipped with everything a guest will need, but it is a small space and is ideal as a base from which exploring of the local area is undertaken.

We live next door and are usually around when guests are staying. We consider ourselves unobtrusive but we are available to interact as much as the guests wish. On occasion when we are away ourselves, a family member or our neighbour will be on hand.

Response from the owner Dear Stephanie, We are so sorry that your stay with us didn't live up to expectations, particularly with regard to the internet not working. Unfortunately, this is a problem in rural Ireland generally, where we have extremely patchy broadband and wifi, posing a difficulty for both local business and visiting tourists. This is equally the case with some phone carriers, and although not directly our fault, it is obvious that these would affect one's enjoyment of the venue. We're also disappointed that you were unhappy with the directions. As it's almost a year since you stayed, I reviewed our email traffic in advance of your visit and felt that we had been pretty good with providing information on directions. We have just had a system of postcodes introduced into Ireland and hopefully in the future, giving directions by reference to the postcode will make finding a property easier. We are pleased that you did find the place peaceful, notwithstanding the problems referred to above and that you would recommend it to a friend. We do our best to offer a first rate service for our little place and we will take your comments onboard and do our best to ensure that some of the glitches experienced by you will be avoided in the future.
