Description from owner

Description

The historic medieval 12th century vilage/small town of Puy L'Eveque (Hill of the Bishop, where the Bishop of Cahors use to live with his knights) is situated within the Midi Pyrenees on the banks of the river Lot, surrounded by vineyards of the local black Cahors grape. Petite Maison Bleue is centrally placed on Grand Rue, within the ancient historique ville.

Spacious Petite Maison Bleue, a listed colour-washed cottage with original beams is in a perfect location, a few minutes walk from the River Lot and local shops.

The cottage is light and airy with a fully fitted kitchen, dishwasher, fridge and cooker plus plenty of pans and gadgets to cook fabulous French food. To the left of the entrance we have a spacious kitchen with lots of cupboards and the usual white goods, Facing the kitchen is the open plan dining area, comprising of a table and chairs for 6 and a bookcase with multiple books and games, plus a seating area with two large comfortable 3-seater settees, facing each other, a coffee table and wall mounted TV for both French and English channels. Nearby we have a wood burning stove for the colder months.

Stairs lead to two good sized double bedrooms both with storage and en-suite bathrooms. The bathrooms contain a shower cubicle, loo and vanity unit with mirror and sink. Hot water is constant and we also provide free electricity for items in the cottage. The bedding and towels are all good quality and t-towels and toiletries also provided on arrival.

The nearby large private courtyard has a dining table , very roomy and seats 8, for your al fresco meals surrounded by scented plants and roses, or to taste the local wine in glorious sunshine . Opposite the cottage we have free car parking.

We are located a few minutes from the River Lot where the local boat or canoes can be hired. Fishing is a great local pastime and the locals can be seen daily doing just that. We also have many restaurants and bakeries nearby plus a small well-equipped supermarket, banks and a post office. There are washing facilities with large machines just a few minutes away open 24/7 and a outside clothes line to dry clothes on, should you want this, I am happy to do this for you in the main house for a small charge to leave you to enjoy your holiday. We also have a 24/7 launderette for washing and drying outside the local supermarket.

Prices are for up to four people, we can accommodate 6 but this has an additional charge. Please enquire.

Puy L'Eveque contains many historic monuments including two Chateaux of interest standing proud at the top of the skyline plus a 13th century tower and the 14th century church of St. Saveur. The Midi-Pyrenees is often described as having the most historic and unspoilt attractions within France, due to its many medieval villages and breathtaking scenery of deep valleys and rivers. Daytime temperatures can range between 18c to 35c in summer, ideal for exploring the local countryside.

We have fabulous events happening throughout the summer months such as wine fetes and a spectacular fireworks evening plus weekly markets throughout the year, local producers evening markets set beside the river for local companies to promote themselves and to taste all of it. Sitting outside the numerous cafes watching the world go by is a particular french pastime also!

Other activities include horse riding, cycling, wine tasting, sampling local faire, art exhibitions, excellent restaurants, rambling, children's activities centre nearby and visiting places of special interest such as Chateau Bonaquil, 12th century Rocamadour and St. Circ Lapopie. We really recommend the wine-tasting tours, being surrounded by over 30 vineyards.

We aim to provide the perfect holiday for you, free Wifi that also works in the courtyard and a 'welcome' basket for you upon arrival of local wine, tea, coffee etc, just what you need to begin a relaxing holiday.

Check-in is after 4pm and check-out is before 10 o'clock. We may be able to accommodate other times but please let me know beforehand. I would really appreciate knowing the approx time of arrival also so that I can ensure to be there.

We have had such lovely feed back from previous clients and hope to provide the same from you, a wonderful holiday for you to enjoy!

Response from the owner Thanks for your review, I am pleased you enjoyed your stay with us and found the cottage to be well equipped and spotless, is a lovely village. I was surprised that you found the village road noisy as it is not a main road, large vehicles are forbidden to use it and does not have a steady stream of traffic. The mattress is rated as being medium, we did have a firmer mattress but replaced it after speaking to our clients. It is hard to know which mattress should be used. We have 7 restaurants in total, most have to be booked in advance due to their popularity, more than most villages and with excellent cuisine standard. Lucky for us. It was a shame I didn't know about the bike hire as we have a place in the next village which does this. We are fortunate to be so close to so many historical sites, Domme and Monpazier are beautiful. Best regards Iona

Response from the owner Thanks for your kind review, it was lovely to meet all three of you. I wish I had known about the lighting as the standard light was taken out of the sitting area recently as guests didn't want it! I have put it back! We did cons a washing machine but installed a dishwasher instead due to full washing facilities being a few minutes walk away and having an outside drying area, I also have a washing machine that guests can use in the the main house when asked. We may review this. I was most pleased that your husband enjoyed himself so much he said he would have liked another week. It was wonderful that you took time to enjoy the local restaurants and sights etc. Best regards, Iona
