NAM DINH PROVINCE
Located in the heart of the Red River Delta, this agricultural province is well-known for its heroic people. Generalissimo Tran Quoc Tuan led 3 victorious wars against the Mongols in the 13th century. Le Duc Tho shared a Nobel Peace Prize with Henry Kissinger after successfully negotiating the Paris Agreement in 1973 to end the Vietnam War.
This land is home of devout people who follow Buddhism, Catholicism and local cults of ancestors and animism. There are over 1,000 cathedrals standing side by side with numerous pagodas and temples dedicated to national heroes and local deities.
Thanks to its status as second capital during the 13th century, Nam Dinh is proud of its elegance and sophistication in cusine and lifestyle. Cooks from Nam Dinh are welcome all over the country. With the help from the projects developing sustainable livelihoods of Centre for Marinelife Conservation and Community Development (MCD), people in Giao Xuan Commune has developed community base tourism, especially homestays for tourists. Until now, there are 11 homestays in this area. All of them are clean and cool with good conditions for living. Most of house is brick house – with 3 main rooms, 2 kitchens and 1 bathroom. Typically, house of Mr. Van is one of the oldest houses, built in 1960 with 5 beds. This house is made from wood and tile-roofed. Besides good facilities, the owners of these houses are trained basic skills of community tourism such as: cooking, room service, tourist guides, etc. The area surrounding house is really fresh and green with fruit garden, fish pond. They will be the ideal place for people who want to enjoy the countryside atmosphere. More over, the people in Giao Xuan are public artists. Traditional music shows at night will become unforgettable memory for tourists.
