Description

A Bertin offers you a ground floor apartment in this 200 year old stone farmhouse. Renovated and in excellent order, this apartment is the only holiday accommodation on the site and in the immediate area. Two private terraces and full use of the garden, pool and 22 acres of fields and meadows are available to you. Two bedrooms, furnished with antique and modern furniture and each with a private shower/basin/wc room are connected to the main living/kitchen area which has large oak doors bringing in light and sunshine to the apartment. Although comfortable for four people (one twin room and one double bedded room) an extra put-up bed and cot is available if required.

A Bertin is set in beautiful rolling countryside in central Gascony, with superb views over surrounding hills. Small oak woods, maize and sunflower fields, lakes and streams, medieval villages and isolated chapels and farmhouse represent this warm sunny rural area of South West France. There are no close neighbours to the house, but a short drive of ten minutes will take you to the local Bastide medieval villages of Marciac and Plasance-du-Gers, where all necessary shops and services are found

Ever wanted to make hand crafted soaps or candles? Fran will spend a morning with you in her kitchen helping you make your own glycerine rich soaps. A small charge of €20 is made to cover material costs.

Getting around

The Gers has very little public transport so a car is essential. The roads are very quiet, however, and run for the most part, along the ridges of the hills so offer plenty of beautiful views for those not driving. Sign posting is good and most roads are in a very good state so touring by car is a pleasure. In the smaller villages and towns parking is usually free and rarely full.

Interaction with guest

On arrival, Fran and Richard will show you into the apartment which is a part of the main house although with separate entrances. We will welcome you with a drink, a wander around the apartment and any information you require to make your stay as memorable and enjoyable as possible and will continue to be available for any help or information you may need throughout your stay. If the area is new to you we can provide ideas of places to visit, activities and restaurants and will make bookings for you when needed. If you are a family and would like a bit of babysitting, we are happy to provide it at no charge. We also offer transport to and from local restaurants in the evening if you would rather not allocate a driver!

“Excellent apartment in delightful location”

We really enjoyed our stay at A Bertin. The apartment was well equipped and furnished, Having two en suites was particularly appreciated as was the privacy due to the property being only shared with the owners who are most welcoming and easy going. The location is beautiful with views across the rolling Gers countryside from the pool. We have spent many years holidaying in this region and love the relaxed lifestyle, wonderful food and of course the wine! A Bertin rates highly from our experience. There are many walks you can take from the property and from the top of the hill you can experience a wonderful vista to the Pyrenees which are about two hours away by car. A car is fairly essential as it is about five minutes drive to the village of Beaumarches where there is a store and a great patisserie. Fifteen minutes to the supermarket in Plaisance and ten to the wine co-operative which is really excellent and presents good value for money. There are many restaurants nearby including one in the village which is a cookery/catering school. Excellent lunches to eat inside or out. For a relaxed break in the warmth of the southern sun and in such a beautiful location we truly recommend A Bertin.

“A haven of peace of tranquillity.”

The title says it all, in fact the most noise we heard was a passing horse! A lovely place to stay, the gitê was beautifully decorated and being all on one level was a major bonus. Fran and her husband were most welcoming and a mine of information about the local area and life in France.

“A perfect Gascon Rural Retreat”

We have visited several times, and always remember our first view of this gorgeous place. If you are wanting peace, beauty, space and comfort, all within reach of some of the best villages in Gascony you will not be disappointed. Frances and Richard are true hosts who will help and guide you in any of your wishes. There are wonderful walks on the doorstep, the Gite is roomy, clean and private. I cannot recommend this Gite more highly.
