Description

The Stables in a courtyard setting forms part of a 17th Century Water Mill in a quiet beautiful contryside location in Perranwell Station, near Truro. The properety is ideal for adults & suitable for people with slight disabilities, with parking directly outside the cottage. Sorry, no children under 10yrs of age. The property is only10 mins from Truro or Falmouth and close to all the main attractions Cornwall has to offer,. 200yds from the cycle tramway, 1 mile from the local pub The Royal Oak offering superb local produce,you'll love the tranquility of this gem!

Please note: From the begining of April to the end of September guests must stay for a minimum of 7 days (Sat to Sat) full weeks only.

“Not worth for what I paid”

The owners were helpful. If its for a professional stay, I would not recommend it. Phone reception is very poor indoors, net is only available in the kitchen though i had most days with no net at all. The owners were trying to help but it seems it needs a professional. Shower is very weak, you will not enjoy it. In summery both Suzi and Allen were very helpful but the accommodation was not worth for what I paid.

Response from the owner We are very disappointed that the guest was underwhelmed by our cosy & beautiful cottage. The Stables is a home from home for many people who have been coming here year after year for over 12 years, enjoying the hundreds of flowers.ideal central location, private parking & comfortable beds. Our location here in the countryside means that sometimes the internet can be a bit sporadic which means it is not on par with a large town like Truro. That said it is adequate for most people who just want to download a few emails, WhatsApp, etc. We have yet to receive another criticism in over 5 yrs! We pride ourselves in rapid response with most minor faults fixed in 5-10 mins & any malfunctioning items immediately replaced. We often lend hairdryers & power converters to our overseas guests - nothing is too much trouble! This guest stayed for 2 weeks & did not once complain about the shower, as a result we had no idea there was a problem otherwise it would have been fixed immediately! He also arrived with an array of electrical equipment including gaming consoles. The TV was removed from the lounge, propped up on paperback books in the bedroom & used as a monitor! They also installed their own wi-fi. All this was probably too much & may have clashed with our system. We had to re-set the wi-fi 4 or 5 times which we have never had to do before. We did pay for a consultant who did upgrade 1 or 2 parts. Value, comfort, care & cleanliness is what we do best, hence the great number of repeat guests at Hicks Mill Cottages!

“Impressive”

All reviews read tell the truth. The Old Mill is idealy positioned for touring in all directions.Bissoe is,close to Truro, Falmouth and Penryn and not far from Newquay, Penzance, Helford etc. We stayed in The Stables and found it more than adequate for our needs. However special mention has to be made re the onsite owners. The welcome, the hospitality, the understanding, the friendliness of Suzie and Alan Maxted is worthy of special praise. I would have said all of this even if Alan wouldnt have supplied me with two lots of freshly caught Makerel and a huge homegrown cucumber during our stay! We had some great chats during our stay. Suzie is an accomplished artist and has displayed her work in the property. Alan is an ex deep sea diver and has added a writer, a poet and a fisherman to his accomplishments. But.... bottom line, they are lovely people and this us what matters.

Response from the owner Prior to their arrival I had contacted the guests telling them that the cottage would be open & everything laid out. There is an instruction sheet in the cottage stating how to use the hourly switch on the heating, wifi code, distance to local pub, post office & supermarkets. Unfortunately, when the guests arrived my husband was visiting me in hospital as I was recovering from major surgery. Cream tea had been laid out, six all butter sultana scones along with a bottle of wine & a box of Fox's mixed choc. biscuits! However, on returning home and having checked the voicemail, my husband went to check on the guests. He helped them with booking restaurants & ,to park their car. The parking space adjacent to the cottage measures 12ftX20, big enough to park a van. It is easier if you are able to reverse a vehichle, 2 cars can easily pass on the lane. My husband also showed the ladies how to operate the fan heater which has just an on/off switch and also opened a bottle of Prosecco, hopefully settling them in. He also asked if there was anything else he could help them with. Being in the countryside phone signals do vary, but most can be obtained within 30ft of the cottage. Good wifi is available in the kitchen area, this is for internet security so that no-one out in the road can hack into the guests computors or phones. The Stables forms part of a 17th Century grade 2 listed Watermill in an area of outstanding natural beauty, a quiet countryside location only 10 mins from Truro & Falmouth & 1mile from the village of Perranwell Station (2 mins by car). A fantastic hub for easy access to the north & south coasts. Hence its appeal for those wanting a quiet relaxing holiday. The old granite steps (also listed) to the terrace, form part of this charm. For those with slight disabilities we have seating in our lovely courtyard and provide a platform for the shower cubicle on request. We pride ourselves in the many superb reviews for our hospitality & our detailed attention to our customers, this being the first negative report in 15 years of trading. Maybe this guest might have found a town location more suitable.
