Nestled comfortably in the river Tech valley, in the medieval hamlet of Le Tech, Lanquedoc-Roussillon region of South-Eastern France, this charming, rustic cottage is available to rent throughout the year. Originally built to house the famous ironworkers from the area, it is a two bedroomed cottage with a patio rear garden, facing south (of course) to catch the best of the weather. It has an open living/dining area at the rear garden level. It is the ideal hideaway for those in need of a restful vacation, or for those who wish to experience an active, outdoor life in the variety of the Eastern Pyrenees in the Vallispir valley, with its stunning and inspiring mountains.

Le Tech suffers little from strong winds and the evenings are balmy with few flies. The post office is open most days. One of the main attractions of the area is the natural beauty of the surroundings.

There are wonderful mountain and forest walks throughout the whole area. Immediately behind the house the forests are sweet chestnut trees planted in the 1940's and the whole area is a favourite for mushroom and chestnut picking when in season. The level of difficulty on the walking trails vary considerably, the views are always spectacular.

The village church has service every month or so, with a charming clock tower, chiming every half-hour. There is a tennis court and public BBQ, parking and children's play area on the near side of the river in front of the house. Fishing for trout is possible in the various rivers in the area. Permits can be purchased locally and a “catch and return” policy generally applies with barbless hooks!

The Mediterranean Sea, (1 hr 15mins). There are many beaches along the coast, but the most spectacular village is Collioure, a must-visit village. Prats de Mollo, some 6kms away, is a fortified, medieval town with a citadel on the upper slopes. It is a vibrant, walled town with some lovely restaurants, Prats has a small market on Friday morning. Ceret, a very picturesque town on the main route to Le Tech, has a wonderful market on a Saturday morning.

Skiing is available at Vallter 2000 (1 hr 15 mins) in Spain. Spanish border only 15 minutes away with lovely villages and cheap shopping.
