Description from owner

Description

Rock Cottage is a traditional Cornish cottage built centuries ago standing completely on its own, and situated in an AONB with a private foreshore, jetty, woodland and large grounds. It's set in one acre of grounds and in an incredible location sitting above the Mawgan Creek of the Helford River, where during the main holiday season, our boat 'Peggy' is moored for you to enjoy. There are no neighbours in sight or sound, but you are only a short walk to Mawgan village.

This well-appointed 16th century waterside retreat is warm and cosy throughout with oil fired full central heating by radiators and has three bedrooms, which includes the separate garden room, a new and well equipped kitchen where you will enjoy a fabulous view looking down the creek. The carpeted and beamed lounge, with its original cob walls and inglenook, has a luxurious new suite, window seats, Smart TV (new for 2023), oak sideboard with a grand selection of games and offers a relaxing atmosphere. On the ground floor is the new luxury family bathroom with under floor electric heating, a beautiful J shaped bath, overhead electric shower complemented with integrated wash hand basin and cupboards. A fine wooden open tread staircase, with a short wall mounted handrail, leads to the landing and the master bedroom and the adjacent children's room. A few paces from the front door is the separate and spacious garden room which is set up for adults or independent children only. This large and bright room overlooks the garden and river, has a newly fitted cream carpet, 40" wall mounted television as well as two single zip and link beds. When a couple are using this room, and by request, the beds will be made up as a 6ft large double. This room is not suitable for young children. Bathroom facilities are in the cottage. The key to this room is not available unless someone is sleeping in here.

BT Superfast fibre broadband, all bed linen, bath sheets, hand towels, tea towels, luxury toiletries, electricity, heating oil, boat, buoyancy aids from baby to adult sizes, tide table, crabbing lines and binoculars are included in the rent. Good walks, wonderful landscapes, coves and quiet beaches no more than 10 minutes by car. During your stay you can visit the area’s beautiful beaches and traditional Cornish harbours, enjoy top attractions such as Heligan Gardens and the Eden Project, and discover stunning views in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. If you want an adventure, go rowing in 'Peggy' our sturdy 3.5M dinghy (available tide and weather permitting from Easter to end of October), and discover what's living along the shoreline. Bring your kayaks/canoes/stand up paddle boards and store them on the jetty. You may like to fish for bass, grey mullet and more from the private shoreline, the boat or from the wooden staging where the old boathouse once stood. Children love to catch the river crabs with line and bacon from here, play in our woodland or enjoy games in the garden. The patio area is perfect for an evening BBQ, lunch or breakfast on a warm sunny morning.

“Had to cancel The Canaries for Christmas, Rock Cottage was a wonderful replacement.”

Reviewed 3 Jan 2022

We've admired the setting of this cottage for many years on our trips to the Helford. And we eventually got to try it out. Wow. We weren't disappointed. The cottage is beautifully presented with what looks like a brand new kitchen and bathroom. It was filled with fresh flowers and goodies on our arrival, and was absolutely spotless. The kitchen window looks right down Mawgan Creek. This was my office view for a few days, and thankfully (or maybe not!) the wi-fi was good enough for many lengthy zoom calls. I spent many hours watching the birds feed from the bird table outside that window when the video calls got boring; Linda had very thoughtfully left bird food and we weren't disappointed by the many visitors. The kitchen was very well equipped for people like us who love to cook with local produce (so many rentals aren't). There were even scales, and a rolling pin! The bed was very comfy. If you love the constant change of a tidal river, you'll love it. Can't imagine how amazing it must be in Spring or Summer when the boat is available too. Wonderful.

Response from the owner I'm thrilled to bits to receive your 5* review on Rock Cottage but even more so to know that you thoroughly enjoyed your holiday and everything was as you would expect. Thank you so very much for writing your review and I sincerely hope to see you both again when the flowers are out and Peggy is on the water.

Your own private slipway on a glistening creek. All to yourself, a prehistoric outlook. Resident breeding shelduck, the miracle of moon & tide, twice a day carries you, with a few strokes of the oars, into sleepy Greek. Why would you want to be anywhere else?

“Idyllic Cottage with spectacular views down Mawgan Creek, Helford, Corneall”

Reviewed 11 Jun 2019

Rock Cottage is located in a beautiful peaceful spot at the head of Mawgan Creek with uninterrupted magnificent views down the estuary. Suitable for families (2 doubles + one twin), it is also an idyllic spot for couples looking for peace: there is a quiet light and airy garden bedroom with comfortable king-sized bed, with picture windows looking down a well-tended lawn to the water’s edge where there is a rowing boat for the use of guests. Very well equipped kitchen, large bath + shower, plentiful hot water, comfortable sitting room with TV + DVDs and helpful hosts (live approx 2 miles away). Ideally situated for exploring the Helford River and the beautiful Lizard Peninsular with its uninterrupted coastal path. We went in early June...likely also idyllic out of season.
