Description from owner

Description

Moulin de la Ronde with its toes in the Vienne, occupies 4 acres of river frontage with a private island accessible through the mill, where you can fish, bird watch or just relax. Friends, visitors and locals describe it as stunning. La Ronde consists of the owners' cottage, the old watermill and two barns.

The last working mill in the Vienne, La Ronde was a demarcation line between free and occupied France in World War 2. It has over 600 years of history.

The "Old Grainstore" is the upper part of a barn which used to be linked by a footbridge to the mill. Now it is a very spacious, open plan apartment with parquet flooring, imposing original beams and imported furniture reflecting the owners time in Asia.

The local village of Bonnes is 5 mins walk away with a swimming pool, pharmacy, boulangerie,, bar/restaurant and a chateau!

Further details

The English owners live here are normally on hand to help as much or as little as you wish during your stay. Bread and wine will be on the table when you arrive with coffee, tea and milk in the kitchen.Access to the upper floors of the mill is for owners only.Locals bathe in the river. It is entirely at our guests own risk if they choose to do so.

Getting around

It's probably best to use your car to get around. There is a bus service into Potiers and of course we have excellent access to railways stations and the airport at Poitiers. Cycling is popular and we have few bikes you can use. Most people don't get down to the village of Bonnes in our canoe or kayak...but it is possible:)

Interaction with guest

We live at Le Moulin...so normally we are around and about to help if we're needed. However unless called upon we keep a low profile so guests can fully enjoy the grounds and just get on with their holiday. However if guests want to tap into a bit of local knowledge, we're very happy to chip in:)

“Time spent by the river”

Reviewed 19 Aug 2020

Excellent place to kick back, listening to the rhythm of the water, watching the wildlife from the waters edge or from the comfort of your apartment, with plenty of room both inside and out. Comfortable and relaxing, friendly discreet hosts. Taking trips out - it's easy driving to discover the historical heart of France and general amenities are only a short drive away. We hope to revisit!

“A beautiful, peaceful location”

Reviewed 12 Sep 2016

The Moulin is in an idyllic location, perfect for a relaxing holiday. The owners are warm and welcoming and the accommodation has everything you could wish for. We loved the area, with interesting places to visit - local markets, Poitiers, Chauvigny etc. though we could have happily just sat by river and read.

“One sentence, are you joking?”

Reviewed 6 Oct 2015

Its impossible to give a title to a review of La Ronde in a sentence, the title a book the review could be an anthology! The main thing on offer is peace, time appears to stand still at La Ronde until you're suddenly aware you have to leave. There is nothing sweet about the sorrow of parting from here. We saw otters every day, a wide range of birds and other wildlife during our stay, we used the bikes to cycle to the chateau d'eau although thanks to my wifes planning we followed that up in the afternoon by a trip on the Velorail which was not a good move... Bonnes is a sleepy village with a bakers and a couple of small shops that open sometimes. The only bar/restaurant is the Café des Sports where Sunday lunch is not to be missed 5 courses, 1 litre of wine plus pineau and coffee was 17euros and only a 5 minute or so walk away (hic)! Chauvigny has all the usual facilities of a small French town with several small supermarkets but a large E Leclerc on the road out towards Poitiers. the only minor issue we had was the wifi was sporadic but available but that didn't affect the holiday at all. We loved our stay, we're going back again next year all I ask is that you continue to feed the Barbel in the millstream!
