Description

Charming 120 years old restored cottage situated in a scenic and secluded area. Pat Mor originally built this rustic cottage in the 1890's for his wife and 8 sons. His great grand nephew - organic farmer nearby - has restored it maintaining most of its original features. The cottage is surrounded by lakes and mountains and an ideal base for a fishing and touring holiday in Galway, Connemara and Mayo. Wonderful location for hill walking, outdoor pursuit's, angling, water sports, nature etc. Peace and quite guaranteed. If you are looking for a retreat from everyday life - this is your place.

“A beautiful cottage in stunning surroundings”

Reviewed 9 Apr 2017

The pictures really do not do Pat Mors justice, the views from the front garden are simply beautiful and given a small amount of effort, the views afforded from the numerous peaks, that essentially form the back garden are breath taking. We visited Pat Mors cottage with our 3 year old labrador (Doug) and will certainly return. The Cottage simply oozes rustic charm, the centerpiece being the wood burning stove and impressive surrounding stone hearth. The master bedroom was warm and comfortable and with two further bedrooms upstairs, Pat Mors would also suit two couples or a small family. The kitchen is well equipped and we would certainly recommend bringing some ground coffee for the coffee machine, as nothing beats the smell and taste of returning from a morning walk to a hot, freshly brewed pot of coffee. Exiting a gate in the back garden affords access to open, hillside fields, of grazing sheep, that you are free to explore (Doug kept on his lead!). The surrounding peaks provide stunning views of the three surrounding loughs. This was perfectly located to allow for an early morning walk, (to build up an appetite for an alfresco breakfast, overlooking Lough Mask and surrounding peaks) or to burn off an evening meal and work up a thirst for a glass of wine in front of the wood burner. The surrounding Counties of Galway and Mayo were full of varied activities and views, that we were not even close to scraping the surface of. William, the owner of Pat Mors, was not only extremely friendly and very hospitable but was a fountain of knowledge as to where to go and what to see and do. Walking out of the cottage in the morning and being met by the sound of birdsong and the trickling of water from one of the nearby streams (and no cars!!!!) was a refreshing contrast to the hustle and bustle of our normal surrounding. On a clear night the lack of light pollution made for amazing views of the moon and stars that you would be hard pressed to find in many places back in the UK. We could not recommend this location highly enough and we will certainly be returning in the near future. The cottage was warm, comfortable and cosy and the surroundings were perfect.
