“Family holiday in the Moulin Haut Gite”
We stayed as a family group of 9 in the largest Gite at Moulin Haut this August. We booked via the Holiday Lettings website which we believed was the ‘contract’. Eater the stay date I was sent a contract in French with extra terms and conditions. I translated via google but it made no sense so asked for it in French. This was returned but was still confusing. However we realised we needed to bring bed linen/ towels or pay for it and clean the property or pay extra. This was disappointing. The Gite itself was dismal, dark and in our opinion not that clean. Other factual points are: The mattresses were stained and dirty The pillows were stained and dirty - some were just old cushions so the pillow cases didn’t fit properly One of the beds was a small fold up guest bed not ideal for a weeks stay- you could feel all the springs in the mattress There was a small microwave / oven which for a family group of 9 meant having meals at different times as there wasn’t room to cook it all One of the hob plates didn’t work The kitchen and general furniture was very tired and out dated. We felt all the furniture was ready to break The TV was very old The brush to sweep up was barely fit for the job Facilities/pool The pool was lovely however all 5 kids cut their feet on broken tiles/grit in the bottom. They ended up wearing their water shoes in the pool. The area was rural and lovely. 8 minute drive to the lovely local village. Good location for many lovely Dordogne sites. The most disappointing point is that the owner literally screamed at me in front of numerous other guests and our children when My daughter and I attempted to close the pool cover when it started to pour. He yelled and stormed over to close it ( in exactly the same way we were). The other owner then said I shouldn’t touch this as it was expensive and in the contract. There were no signs in French or English. This totally shook me up, was appalling behaviour which then scared one of the children that they wouldn’t go in the pool again. There are ways of speaking to people and this was not it. Overall a disappointing stay. I would not recommend this place.

Je suis désolée pour votre soucis de votre thé, car nous avons toujours beaucoup en stock sur place pour remplacer tous dès besoin. Heureusement je sais que votre micro onde/four dans votre cuisine était ainsi une solution :) J'avoue bien que ce jour de l'arrivée de 8 familles était chargé, mais la prochaine fois, j'espère que vous me le demanderez 2 x si nécessaire :) Comme vous êtes venus à deux familles, vous aviez peut-être moins chercher la communication avec les autres. Les espaces collectifs où les autres locataires se sont rencontrés sur place sont bien: l'aire de jeux, le terrain de foot, le terrain de volley, la zone WIFI (sur les bancs et la table en bois devant l'accueil et sur les 20 chaises autour de la piscine) et sur les transats (dehors l'abri de notre piscine) mais partout sur la pelouse :) dans notre jardin. Une petite explication pour les lits je vous donne avec plaisir: votre gîte est parfait pour des familles recomposées avec... et oui ...souvent ils sont 6 enfants ! :) Comme marqué dans votre contrat de location les lits de votre gîte étaient: un lit double, 6 lits simple! Nous avons bien 3 autres gîtes sur place avec 2 lits double/gîte, mais il faut réserver plus tôt que vous aviez fait, si vous voulez séjourner dans ces gîtes! Nos gîtes sont à louer pour une famille (frigo = 180 l), mais en effet donnent tous la possibilité à louer avec les grands parents/membres de la famille ou les copains...et à partager le prix de la location ce que vous aviez choisi à faire. Au plaisir de vous revoir tous ! Vivement les vacances inoubliables au Moulin Haut ;) A+
