Response from the owner It was indeed unfortunate the phone company couldn't fix the connection during your stay and our calls couldn't influence their speed. We were not the only people with damage. Fortunately, such a failure is rare and in fact we are proud of our stable internet. But above-ground cables as in France are not vulnerable to severe weather. Thank you very much for your advise related to the instructions. We will see how to improve these.

“Wish we were still there”

Reviewed 29 Aug 2015

L'Hermite is one of three attractive cottages, known as Maisonneuve, all owned by the same friendly and welcoming lady. They are about 1.5 miles outside the village of Thenon (shops, weekly market and supermarket). The conversion of the cottages has been done very cleverly so that none of them has a pool or sunbathing area overlooked by any of the others. Though they are clustered together, there is no problem with lack of privacy or disturbance. L'Hermite is the oldest of the three and has thick stone walls, so it is cool inside even on the hottest day, and splendid wooden beams in several of the rooms. It is comfortably furnished, with several attractive and distinctive features. The view from the terrace and pool is over a valley with fields and woods. We enjoyed watching eagles and swallows wheeling overhead. The only disturbance to the peace and quiet were the crowing cocks on farms nearby and the cicadas in the fields. On a quiet Sunday morning, we could even hear the church bells from the village. The area, Perigord Noir, is beautiful, with rolling hills and dense mixed woodland, teeming with wildlife: red squirrels, deer and wild boar. There are masses of places to visit, with castles, gardens, caves and medieval towns and villages. Food markets and restaurants were a constant temptation. We were torn between lazing on the terrace and exploring the area. Just a couple of points to note about the cottage: 1. As often in France, the bathroom and loo are downstairs, as is the nicest bedroom; the stairs to the other bedrooms are steep and would be difficult for small children and some older people. 2. The oven is one of those combined oven/grill/microwave devices. It served us perfectly well but would be no good for ambitious cooking. We thoroughly enjoyed our fortnight at L'Hermite and would happily recommend it to others.

Response from the owner Thank you very much for your review. I must have misted it before and I admit my respons comes much to late. I am sorry for this. Where we have the focus on making an unwinding and reflecting period possible, there was a time -long time back- we avoided WIFI and even internet.
