“Fabulous stay”
We were greeted by the owners Patrice and Catherine who showed us comprehensively around the property before leaving us to settle in. This is a superb property, built in 1875 it exudes French charm. The village of Trausse is quaint and quiet, there is ample internal garage parking for 4/5 cars. There is a tennis court and table tennis available on the plot next door. The bedrooms are all a good size and en suite, with extra shower facilities downstairs and by the pool. The pool itself is large and cleaned regularly, the outdoor eating options are also great as is the outdoor kitchen. Beautifully maintained vineyards populate the area and if you are a keen cyclist (as one of our group was) the Pic de Nore is within distance. The beaches of the Med are 50-60 minutes away and the UNESCO site of Carcassonne is wonderful and only 30 minutes away. We would also recommend a trip to Minerve, the approach road is along a stunning gorge and the town has great little restaurants and many great views. Head down to the river bed below the town and explore the cave that runs beneath..... We can't leave out the Canal du midi which runs through the area, offering boating adventures, cycling and walks. Supermarkets are within 5-10 mins by car (larger shops in Carcassonne) but there are local bakers and grocery shops in surrounding villages. We spent two fantastic weeks here as four families and had more than enough space - there is still much we didn't do and we would love to make a return visit to explore further.
