Description
An architect designed rural retreat built with local wood and stone at the foot of the mountains in the Slieve South facing into the mountains the woodlandsong maximises on light and views. Built at the foot of the mountains in the Slieve Bloom Environment Park. An open plan siting room and gallery loft gives a sense of space and flow to this section of the house. Designed to maximse on light and views with a south facing aspect into the mountains. Two sitting rooms one upstairs and one downstairs and two open fires. Three bedrooms and an open gallery bedroom space.
There are over one and a half acres of landscaped garedens with a stream running through it. We have a boardwalk meandering through the trees. . The lack of light pollution mean the stars from the back lawn can be spectacular. Many decks and places to stop and enjoy the view. Fire pits and a barbeque for cook outs herbs are planted around the house . We have recently added a bbq hut to the garden by the stream which can sit eight.
We have been letting our home out for five years and have had some very positive feedback in our guest book with visitors from every continent. We are in the heart of theSlieve Bloom Mountains in the Environment Park.. You can see deer, falcons, pine martens which are exclusive to the area, toads, badgers, endangered pipistrel bats and field mice. One guest says he saw a kingfisher by our stream. We keep the house well and it has been known for a bat to fly in through an open window and field mice are curious. We have never had house visits from peegrine falcon or deer.
The Slieve Blooms make a great base for touring as they are literally in the hear of the counrty. We have many maps and local walks for you to explore this unspoilt and relatively undiscovered part of Ireland.

“Absolutely beautiful.”

“Woodland Song, Tullamore”
Very disappointed with this holiday rental. Interior of house was grubby, very dusty and in need of re-decoration. Furniture downstairs was so old and covered with equally old cushions to try to pad it out. Oven was unusable as it was so dirty and utility room smelled badly of damp. The highlight of the property was a supposedly impressive garden with stream, boardwalk, stepping stones etc. The reality was a very rickety and dangerous boardwalk with overgrown stream area again in need of attention. Sitting areas at the stream area were dirty and not fit for purpose. The back garden itself was lovely with plenty of sun but all in all, a big anti climax. We had my mum and auntie with us and we were all looking forward to this short break but house fell way short of expectations. Needs a lot of work done to come up to the standard of the photos. Bitterly disappointed.

“Piece of heaven”
Amazing place! Perfect for relaxing, recharging and slow down. Facilities are great, the house and garden are stunning. A car is essential but town is close by and there is lots to do! Coverage for phone and internet isn't great and there is no wifi, however this was perfect for us to truly be able to disconnect and recharge so it worked to our advantage. Thanks Michael!

“A nice place to get away from it all, but not for wheelchair users”
This house has a relaxing, lived in feeling about it. Big, but cosy, clean bedding, comfy beds, etc. We really enjoyed our stay. Plenty of places to visit between 30 - 60 minute driving distances away. A freezer was listed, which would have been good as we’d brought a lot of food to put in it (as main shops are about 30 minute drive away), but there was none. My main issue was with the wheelchair access. The owner mentioned some aspects when I spoke to him, but I didn’t expect the access to be as poor as it was. It’s relatively newly built and it looked like a lot of thought went into the design (apart from the wheelchair access). There are steps into the property and small steps into most of the rooms. No grab rails or accessible shower - not even a basic shower seat - which made getting a shower, hair washed etc a major challenge). There is gravel around the house and to visit the outdoor areas featured in the photos is virtually impossible in a wheelchair due to the overgrowth, very narrow uneven pathways, etc (and I’ve done a lot of travelling and tourist attractions using my wheelchair - Greece, Brazil, Italy, etc.). This was so disappointing, as I was really looking forward to spending time sitting out enjoying those spaces and it was our main reason for booking this property. Our daughter was keen to enjoy the plunge pool, but the pond area, which she took to be the plunge pool was very green and uninviting. Our son was keen to use the fairly new BBQ hut, but it was too dirty (lots of little creatures had moved in and no one had moved them on for the new holiday season) and the previous human visitors had left their dirty dishes behind them. I don’t want to leave this review on a negative note, as Michael was very helpful, when my son locked himself out, the house was very comfortable (if you have no mobility problems) and despite the above, we had a lovely holiday. I just wouldn’t recommend this property for wheelchair users.

“If you like quiet”
A lovely quiet cottage, if you like the birds singing and trees rustling this is the perfect spot. Perhaps a bit tight for for 8 A bit tricky to find but look for a pair of white gates on the right i mile after turning off main road
