If are looking for seclusion, rest and relaxation then Casa Luna is the perfect choice. As much as I would like to keep akumal a secret. . . I have to say that it is my favorite place to go with groups of any kind. An easy 40 minute drive to Cancun makes it really convenient for airport pick up and stocking up on groceries. Costco and Superama are the places to go for great shopping and once you are stocked up all that is left to do is to tuck yourself into a cozy ocean front view home like Casa Luna for the perfect vacation. Rent bicycles, golf carts or walk around the pedestrian friendly town. For real adventure, stop in at the akumal Dive shop where they will greet you in English and help you organize anything from snorkeling to fishing, sailing or scuba diving!!! I love akumal!!!

Truckee, CaliforniaAn unforgettable vacation at Casa Luna
Left on 11/17/2012 for a stay in November 2012
Casa Luna is a very special place, and is lovingly and proudly presented by a most delightful staff. The house, casita and grounds are beautifully maintained by Silvia and Luis. Silvia is an astoundingly great cook--the best meal we had for the entire trip was her menu #1--garlic shrimp, avocado soup, chile relleno, lime pie. She is gracious and kind and has a devilish sense of humor, which shines through despite my limited Spanish. Luis is a friendly, smiling, happy sort who is always ready to help. They make the house even more valuable.
The house is sprawling--with lots of decks, terraces, and lots of privacy. We enjoyed nightly sunsets from the west facing terrace attached to the third floor tower wet bar. Traditionally decorated, with lots of painted tiles and local art. Comfy beds, gorgeous bathrooms, nice bedding, immaculately kept up by Silvia during our stay. The neighbors have a very well fed cat, Gucho, who visits the patio at least once a day, and a social, polite and lovable dog, Lolita (great watchdog). As pet lovers, we enjoyed their visits. The villa is perfectly situated between akumal town and HMB, easy walking to both areas. Great snorkeling just steps away, great restaurants in town, and (for me) world class cavern and cave diving at multiple sites nearby. We are already planning a return trip. -

Hood River, OR.I love Casa Luna!

Casa Luna is everything a vacation rental should be. The house is lovingly tended to by Sylvia and Luis, who feel like the relatives you have always wished you had. Yet, their welcoming, familial nature is only a part of the reason that Casa Luna feels like home.
The house itself is gorgeous beyond compare. Every tile, every dish, every painted fish was chosen with care. The rooms are all secluded enough that you can get away from the group and yet the common spaces are so accommodating that you may not want to. We were still discovering hidden nooks and crannies within the place up until our last morning in Mexico.
Akumal is a wonderful little town. It is far enough from Cancun and Tulum that it doesn't feel completely swamped with tourists, yet also close enough that it is a convenient drive to the shops and the airport. Also, there are sea turtles in Half-Moon Bay. Need I say more?
Writing this now makes me yearn to go back to Casa Luna and watch the moon rise over the ocean once again. I cannot say enough good things about this magical place. You need to just go see for yourself.

Casa Luna is a perfect home for several families to share. Bedrooms with bathrooms provide privacy, common areas are spacious, cooking and dining facilities are excellent. Silvia and Luis anticipated our every need. Her special dinner was delicious and the soothing beverage she provided for our 5 year old's upset tummy worked. Access to the beach and the park next door allowed the children to play without being on the street. Easy drives to Yalku Lagoon, Aktun Chen, Coba, Tulum, and Sian Ka'an broadened our experiences, but walking into akumal or along the beach at Half Moon Bay were daily pleasures. Snorkeling was tops, and the pool at the house much appreciated.

Each year I take a group of 6-10 participant to Mexico for an "Akumal art adventure/Painting in paradise. Casa Luna has been a perfect fit for our painting fun for two years running. The property and gardens afford so many great nooks and crannies for private painting (or relaxing) as well as a beautiful covered patio with a great table for group painting and demos (or eating!) The villa is especially great for unrelated people with spaces for being together and more than just a bedrooms for privacy. All bedrooms have private doors to the grounds some have extra balconies, kitchens, etc too. The kitchen is very well equipped and there's a lovely grill area too so cooking in is a fun option. The staff is friendly and helpful. Ask Luis antonio to get you a coconut! I love this pink palace!!

Family adventure
Bend, OregonIncredible home, excellent location, lots of privacy
Left on 07/16/2010 for a stay in July 2010
From the moment we arrived, the house felt like home. It was perfect for us having two teenagers who want their own privacy. The home is situated on the very southern point of Half Moon Bay, and has incredible views and privacy. The home was very clean, and welcomed us with fresh fruit. Sylvia is the house keeper and is so friendly and very helpful. Luis is the care taker and is also very friendly and helpful. Lots of iguanas around the yard, and barking gecko's are all over the place, and are super cool. At night the hermit crabs come out around the pool and sometimes in, but are harmless and fun to watch. Sylvia is an incredible cook if you want her to make you dinner, and if you have never had avocado soup, you have to try it. Even our very picky kids loved it along with the entire meal.
It is a very short walk to La Buena Vida restaurant and bar, which has great food and is a lot of fun. There are neat little tide pools and little sand pockets just outside the back door of the house, but the house sits mostly on a rock out cropping. If you want the bigger white sand beaches, its a very short walk to the beach at half moon bay, and a relatively short walk to akumal Bay, about a half mile or 10 minutes. The area is incredibly safe and secure. We walked all over the place, sometimes late at night, and felt very comfortable and safe. Everyone we met was very friendly, and very helpful for directions.
The home was really incredible, and would be ideal for two or three couples. The casita over the garage is also very private and very nice. I really can't wait to go back!!!

We have stayed at Casa Luna a couple of times. The location is ideal, easy walking to everything Akumal has to offer. The home can be cozy for a small group, or spacious enough for large gatherings providing enough privacy for all to enjoy. Rooms are nicely decorated, good size, and clean! Beautifully situated looking out over the ocean, where the upstairs patio gives you unbelievable views...trully breathtaking! We would highly recommend Casa Luna.

Hood River, OregonCasa Luna - A truly unique and wonderful place to stay!
Left on 03/10/2010 for a stay in January 2010
I can't imagine a more beautiful location, or a more welcoming community
to spend two weeks in Mexico. To stay in Casa Luna is to have your own
personal oceanfront resort. Whether it was laying out in the beautiful
gardens and listening to the tropical surf lap at the rocks below, enjoying
the panoramic views from Casa Luna's rooftop bar/tower room, sunbathing
on the secluded rooftop patio, or relaxing poolside - there was always a
place to get away, as much as there was a place to be together and enjoy
family.
The staff was simply amazing. Sylvia's cooking was unforgettable, and Luis
the gardener was a delight (especially when he harvested fresh coconuts
from palm trees in the yard and gave them to us to drink the fresh coconut
juice).
Akumal was a very friendly community with lots to offer - I especially liked
walking to Akumal bay and snorkeling with the sea turtles in the mornings.
The restaurants in the area were delicious and one night we even watched a
flamenco dance show while eating dinner! It's a great location - not too
busy like other towns seemed- though it was only a short drive to the
bustling city of Playa del Carmen to the north, or to the street vendor
market places of Tulum to the south.
Everything we hoped for and more! I couldn't imagine a better paradise for
a vacation in the Caribbean - or anywhere else in the world for that matter
- I can't wait to go back. -

Boston, MassachusettsTruly unique and rejuvenating... The House of the Moon.
Left on 03/10/2010 for a stay in January 2010
First of all the location was amazing. Akumal is a gem, just far away enough
from the Spring-breakers at Playa del Carmen and Cancun to have a good
vacation. In good proximity to a plethora of temples, beaches, markets in
Tulum, and hiking trails. All you have to do is ask someone. If you just want
to lay back, Casa Luna will accommodate. Swing in the hammocks, dip in
the pool, sunbathe in the deck, or read in what I called fish room (you'll
see) and enjoy the view. I saw very spectacular sunrises from the deck and
fish room.
This eccentric house has a charm that stays with you after you leave. Casa
Luna does not your typical exterior; painted resort-white. It's vibrant color
welcomes you when you turn the corner and see it after a day trip. Perfect
place for a group of friends, family, or romantic evenings with your loved
one. I visited with all of the above. Sounds crazy, but the location made this
trip a breeze.
The local folks are welcoming and know much about the area. So if you're
feeling spontaneous, adventurous or whatever, ask away and you'll be
guided in the right direction. Sylvia and Luis are the BEST. I recommend
some of Sylvia's cooking by the way. I would call her dishes,
YucatanGourmet Chic (though the state is actually Quintana Roo). You can
also make your own meals in the kitchen or use the built in stone grill
outside (use candles to light the charcoal, works best- I found out the hard
way).
You can also walk to many of the local restaurants and bars, and stumble
your way back safely (unless you fall of course). Had no fear walking at
night and had a blast every time. I also recommend taking a walk to the
lagoon about a 1/3 mile away (there's a small entrance fee well worth it).
Overall, I could not ask for a better place to get away. Soft beds, great food
and drink, unique attractions, nature, and beautiful weather. I highly
recommend a stay here and I am will definitely stay here again. -

Long Lake, MNAwesome House
Left on 03/10/2010 for a stay in December 2004
We had a large group and the house accommodated us very well. It's kid friendly (with the pool coming into the living room) and tons of room for the adults. The kitchen had everything we needed and the big table on the patio was a great place to gather for meals and cocktails. Sitting up on top of the 2nd floor and watching sunrises was a highlight. Casa Luna has a great layout. You can sit on the shaded patio for some afternoon reading or lay out in the sun and bake by the pool.
It's a short walk into town. Fun to go to the farmers market a couple days a week and there are a couple tasty restaurants. The water is beautiful and the beaches are fantastic.
Loved Casa Luna. -

Portland, OregonThe perfect honeymoon at Casa Luna
Left on 02/23/2010 for a stay in August 2009
My husband and I went to Casa Luna for our honeymoon in August and it far exceeded anything we had ever imagined. The house itself is beautiful, with so many rooms and a clean, open, indoor/outdoor feeling. We felt at home as soon as we arrived and quickly fell into a routine of waking up to the sound of the Caribbean, walking into town for breakfast, laying in the sun and snorkeling at Akumal Bay, and going out for amazing dinners. We went on occasional day trips to Coba and Tulum, which were fun and easy to get to, but the best days of our trip were spent at Casa Luna, drinking Sol and eating Sylvia’s pico de gallo while looking out on the Caribbean from our own private, ocean-front patio.

Sisters, Oregon, (Cascades)A sprawling house of casual beauty
Left on 02/17/2010 for a stay in January 2010
From the third story bar to the bottom floor with the pool that you
can
swim inside to outside in, there is a wonderful casualness that
cannot be beaten. There is a down home, you're in mexico feeling.
The view
is outrageous too. Especially from the bar on top, where it is pan-
oramic. We used it for sundowner cocktails (sorta like sunset in Key
West). Only prettier than Key West, I used to live there. The water
in Akumal is the best. Off Casa Luna it is rocky, not a beach which
I find a compelling thing. It affords much more privacy and the
waves on the rocks are like music. The beach is a ten minute stroll
And a nice beach it is, you're almost sure to run into a sea turtle
or two if you have your snorkel and mask with you. If you don't
they have a great dive shop right there. Not to mention a good bar
and restaurant.
Oh, one of the better things about Casa Luna is Silvia. She keeps
the place spotless and if you wish will cook some of the
best mexican food you are likely to taste while in Mexico. And I'm
truly not exaggerating. And Luis the gardener keeps it looking
like a jungle.
A nice treat are the Mayan ruins in the area. Tulum is right on
the ocean and is totally fantastic. And coba' is inland about 30
miles and has the highest pyramid on the peninsula. And what is
super is, you can actually still climb it. And believe me it is high.
What really did bother me about things was that I had to leave.
This was my fourth stay and I think I'll save my pennies and stay
longer next time. Good Luck, Jack Hartman

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Casa Luna. It is a great place in a very beautiful location. The house and grounds were kept spotless and we spent a lot of time around the pool which was cleaned daily.
The staff were great, we were met by Ingrid who answered all of our questions. The food was wonderful, we had several meals prepared for us during the week.
We would recommend this vacation place to anyone. -
