We had a fabulous stay at Casa Del Mar in akumal. The house was lovely...spotless and neatly organized. The pool in the front and the beach in the back gives you different options depending upon the sun and wind. The ocean is inaccessible from the house because of the rocks and coral, but a sandy beach is a short walk in either direction. The house is at the tip of the bay so the waves are big. The views are breathtaking from the house but especially the master bedroom on the second floor where we were lolled to sleep every night by the surf. We typically made breakfast and lunch in the kitchen and went out to dinner. We were glad that we had groceries delivered to the house prior to our arrival. There are a couple of smaller stores with limited selection and high prices. The woman who cleans the house will also prepare meals but we had some language gaps communicating with her. She wasn't able to cook on short notice. We wished we had arranged to have her cook 2-3 meals ahead of time. Visit Juan Gonzalez at Buddha Spas for the best massage that I have ever had and Gynnaku Restaurant for lionfish and chips (try to talk personally to her about her business)!

Some of our friends want to make it an annual visit.
The house is great Maria is great and would highly recommend Casa Del Mar for anyone who wants to experience akumal. -

Casa del Mar was a perfect place for us to enjoy our week away from the world. There were 4 of us (two 20-something kids and 2 adults) on a family trip. We were looking for a private retreat that was comfortable and in a beautiful location. Casa del Mar exceeded any of our expectations.
The service was great. Mari kept everything very clean and cooked us two wonderful meals. Don't leave without experiencing her cooking! The gardener was also very nice and did a great job keeping the yard and pool (and our rental car) looking immaculate. The house itself had everything that was listed in the description and everything worked well.
Our only complaint was that the beds could have been a little more comfortable, but everything else was very nice. We honestly didn't spend much time inside the house when there was so much else to do, but it was a nice place to come home to at night. The house has 3 bedrooms (2 rooms with king beds and 1 room with a twin and a full). This was great for the 4 of us, but you could easily stay here with 3 couples or 2 couples and their children. The house never felt crowded and you never feel exposed to the surrounding houses.
Akumal was a sleepy little town that had everything we needed. We enjoyed many of the restaurants in both akumal and Half Moon Bay. There was always so much to do. We divided our time between akumal Bay (wonderful snorkeling with turtles), Half Moon Bay (very shallow so great for those who are not the most confident swimmers), the Tulum Ruins, local cenotes, Yal-ku (another great snorkeling location), and the beaches of Tulum. We also loved spending time next to our private pool.
Casa del Mar provided us with a great home base for our trip to paradise. Highlights would include the location (what a view), the great service, and the pool. We would love to return to Casa del Mar and hope to do so in the future.

My teenagers loved Casa Del Mar. Clean, everything we needed for cooking and dining in. We sat on the deck and enjoyed gorgeous views as we dined and laughed. Sailboats and fishing boats dotted the horizon. We have many friends in akumal and every year throw a party. Our party at Casa Del Mar was perfect. Friends gathered at the pool, in the house and on the back decks overlooking the sea.
I was sick this year from back surgery, Jose the caretaker treated me so well. He was there every time I called his name to help me with everything I needed. Highly recommend Casa Del Mar for families and couples of any age.
Best Master bedroom suite with large covered deck overlooking the sea was awesome for me, as I had to spend a lot of time there due to my injury and surgery. I loved this room. -

My wife and I recently stayed at Casa del Mar in akumal. On this occasion we traveled with three other people. None of them were experienced travelers. All were a little nervous about what they had seen on the news of traveling to Mexico. Everyone of us had fantastic memorable vacations. Any nerves about traveling to Mexico dissolved after a very short time in Casa del Mar.
The staff at Casa del Mar were beyond attentive and helpful. They arranged for a driver for us for an evening Fiesta in Tulum. Fresh bottled water was never short on supply. Every request was met with a smile, and the house was kept in meticulous order inside and out.The gardener even washed our rental car each morning.
We cooked at the house about 1/2 of our meals. The kitchen appliances and cookware was easy to find, plentiful and in great shape.
The setting in akumal is perfect. Casa del Mar features amazing sunrise views of the back patio, and sunset views from the rooftop viewing deck. The short walk to akumal bay, and Half Moon Bay drew us on nearly a daily basis to snorkel. We saw sea turles at akumal Bay every time we went out. Half Moon Bay had beautiful corals, and fish and the cantina La Buena Vida was an ideal setting to wind up the days during la hora de feliz.For day trips, Akumal, the quiet and secure village is located within a short drive from Playa del Carmen, Tulum, or any number of senotes, theme parks, ruins and golf courses.
My wife and I have the good fortune to travel a fair amount. Many of our vacations leave us tired and exhausted, and wishing for more time to recover. Our trip to Casa del Mar in akumal left us relaxed and refreshed. We can not wait to return.

We had the chance to take our first vacation out of the us. We were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary. We could not have been happier with our choice to stay here. The house gave us that feeling of home away from home with a stunning view of the ocean right outside your window. The home is laid out very well and could easily handle three couples without it feeling cramped or as if you were in each others way. The services provided by the staff were excellent and very accommodating to our request. It was a pleasure to have them come in and did not feel intrusive at all. I cannot say enough about the how if feels to watch the sunrise over the ocean without ever getting out of your pajamas! It would have been more than enough to just stay in the house but the snorkeling there can be addictive and biggest thrill was discovering that the cove just north of the house was usually deserted. There were days when we were the the only people there. It was like living inside a discovery channel show, just awesome and unbelievable all at the same time. I would highly recommend it to all of my friends and we are already planning our return trip for next year. Our family of five (2 adults and 3 teenagers) loved Casa Del Mar. Perfect, quiet location oceanfront between akumal Bay and Half Moon Bay. We could easily walk to both bays and enjoy white sand beaches, swimming, snorkeling with turtles, deep sea fishing, massage on the beach and good meals and drinks. Or, we could stay at the villa and enjoy a refreshing swimming pool and a scenic rocky beach with beautiful views up and down the coastline. The staff Jose and Mari were the best. Mari kept the place spotless, did our laundry, and cooked a wonderful meal one night. Jose kept the grounds perfect, cleaned the pool daily and served us fresh coconuts right from the trees in the yard. We always felt safe, and there was also security watching over the villa at night. The home was fully equipped with everything we needed, full kitchen, lots of storage, air conditioning in the bedrooms, safes, beach towels, DVD movies, daily maid service except Sundays. The house was just the right size for our family with three bedrooms and three baths. Also liked climbing the stairs and enjoying the view from the rooftop observatory. We loved Casa Del Mar and have only positive things to say. We miss alkumal already, and hope to return again in the future. Also, Marcia from akumal direct reservations was so easy to work with and we highly recommend her.

This Casa is just perfect. Perfect location and has such a nice feel. The staff is outstanding. The Casa is so beautifully maintained inside and out. The Casa has everything you would ever need and is in perfect walking distance to akumal. There is no beach, but the view is spectacular. Because it is located on a point, there is always such a nice breeze. The pool is located on the road side, which provides privacy. The Casa holds 6 comfortably. I had the most wonderful 11 days and would return to this Casa in a heart beat!!

I loved Casa Del Mar. It had everything we needed and more. Gin and Tonic's in the pool at midnight, playing cards in the living room, cooking some great breakfasts in the kicthen and rested well in the comfortable bedrooms! We came to akumal for a freinds wedding and we had the most amazing time. On arrival to Cancuun aiport rent a car. There are many places to visit so if you like to be independent go for it. Do not exceed the speed limit, you don't want to get caught speeding in Mexico. Make sure you spend a day/night in Cancuun, visit Tulum which is just 15 minutes from akumal (go early - 9 am before the tourist coaches join you). Akumal Beach is only a few mins away from Casa del Mar. Akumal is a family friendly town. So if you have young children its is a very safe place. We loved Casa Del Mar as we were able to relax and really enjoy our family time together. Jose the gardner is lovely, very helpful. Maria is lovely too, although we never asked, we have been told she can cook a really good meal, just give her 1 day notice. Overall we had an incredible time and I am already missing my time there.

We rented this house with a group of 6 people (3
couples) in Feb 2010. The house was wonderful!!
One upstairs bedroom is huge and has its own
balcony with a wonderful view of the ocean. The
other two bedrooms are very comfortably sized.
There is a separate bathroom for each room (sort of
small bathrooms but who cares?). There are tons of
closet/storage space if you are staying a while.
The house is very clean and the housekeeping is
great. The pool is perfectly kept and fun to have.
There is a great view of the beach from the pool
because there is a lot of space between Casa del
mar and the next house. The kitchen is not huge
but has everything that you need. Plus, Maria can
cook you an EXCELLENT meal for a small fee. The
one small downfall to the house is the ants in the
kitchen. I think that there was air conditioning
but we didn't need to use it! Just cracked the
windows and it was perfectly cool.
The back of the house has a porch area with lounge
chairs. There are rocks leading up to the ocean.
You can easily "hike" through the rocks with good
shoes on if you want to be closer to the ocean-but
you probably can't get in to swim there! That is
OK because about 2 minutes walking to the north,
you will find a beautiful fun, quiet beach with a
wonderful restaurant/bar (La Buena Vida). Or, a 10
min walk to the south you will be in the small town
of Akumal. The town has dive shops, a bunch of
restaurants, grocery stores, Lucy's homemade ice
cream shop, and a beach which was more crowded.
The location is really great. You can easily walk
or ride bikes to Yal ku chico (north of the house)
which is a fantastic snorkeling spot (for all
levels, even small kids). If you didn't want to
rent a car or drive a lot, there is plenty to
do/see/eat within walking distance. Alternatively,
several really great attractions (Dos Ojos cenote,
Casa Cenote/Manatee Cenote-my favorite!, Tulum,
Playa del carmen, etc) are all a very short driving
distance away. -

I have been meaning to write to the owner Marcia since we returned but my reentry into real life has been harsh. Marcia was incredibly helpful in assisting in vacation planning and made an extra effort to ensure that our stay was perfect.
Perfect it was, the house was simple but very adequate. The staff was friendly and informative. We felt safe, well-cared for, and Akumal truly became our temporary home.
We are two families with children and the house was perfectly accommodating. The children loved the pool and the location between the two points in Akumal (half moon bay and Akumal Playa) was optimal. We walked everywhere and loved our days where the car was obsolete.
I do not make high recommendations lightly. I truly thank Marcia and her staff for helping us plan and implement a dream vacation for our families. -

my family loved this place.pool in front is a big plus no wind.fantastic views from 2nd floor balcony. 2nd floor smaller br room has the best bathroom in the house,great view.nice layout tons of closet space. observatory on third floor best views in the beach out front but nice walking to explore the pools of water and interesting creatures in them. 3min walk to beach. maria maid and jose gardener will take care of all your needs. maria does laundry well. jose will wash your car daily.fun place we will be back.

This is our third time in Akumal. We stayed in Nicte Ha,the sister house next door, several years ago and couldn't wait to get back. Casa del Mar is a wonderful place. Just right for the 6 of us. Nicte Ha's rooms all face the ocean, but Casa del Mar more than took care of us. Having the pool on the street side has a bonus - no winds! We all had a terrofic time and will surely return.

Casa del Mar was not our first choice but was adequate. The lack of a sandy beach is the feature we missed the most since all of our other trips have been to Soliman Bay and having a beach with a palapa and kayaks really makes a difference in the fun factor. We decided not to rent a car so that is why we ended up in Akumal. The transfer to and from the airport was smooth and kept the stress factor to a minimum. We originally wanted to rent a house on Yal ku lagoon but Casa del Mar worked out well as it is an easy walk into Central Akumal, and La Buena Vida is a five minute walk and Yal Ku is an easy walk to the north. Walking out to the highway to catch the public transportation was cheap and easy. We ate at the Loncherria for breakfast and dinners regularly since the price of eating out is as expensive as it is in Boulder CO. We cooked in two nights but with the pricey and limited selection of groceries it is not worth the time or trouble. We may have to explore Akumal pueblo for other food possibilities.
The house was clean except for ants around the garbage (not that unusual) and the DVD player had a horrible hum. When the cleaning lady changed our sheets it felt like they were made out of burlap. The pool was a plus since the beach was very sharp coral and with the strong waves swimming in the ocean was not possible. We would walk to either Half Moon Bay to snorkel (coral reefs were easy to swim to and saw lots of fish, two rays and a turtle) or walk ten minutes to the beautiful sand beach at Akumal Bay for the sun bathing and people watching. All in all, a good trip in a decent house but I would prefer the beach at Soliman Bay, but without the rental car that gets problamatic due to the isolation. -

We had a fabulous family vacation at Casa Del Mar in Akumal. the Villa is beautiful and well maintained. it is very convenient for a family with kids - we were 4 adults and 2 kids and had the perfect amount of space. the view from the back porch is stunning, and the pool is a huge advantage for entertaining active young children. the only draw back is that the beach is about 5 minutes walk away and not directly on the property. The house seats on a cliff, right on the ocean, but you can't really get into the water right there.
The staff at Casa del Mar are friendly, professional and helpful. Jose, the gardener picked for us fresh young coconuts almost every day, and Mari cooked mouth watering delicious meals. We had a perfect vacation and would love to come back again and again. -

We have stayed at Casa Del Mar three times for spring break and plan to keep coming forever. It is heavenly. Whenever I feel stressed out, I close my eyes and imagine lying in bed at Casa Del Mar listening to the waves rolling in and watching the moon shine reflect on the water.

Such a wonderful place to visit. The town is filled with charm, beauty and wonderful people. The home was perfect for a small group and the kids adored the pool. The staff treated us like royalty, it was everything we were promised!
