Casa del Sol, an Akumal Landmark and one of my favorite houses, located along Akumal's Yal-Ku Lagoon. Casa del Sol is well known for its great location, right at the headwaters of Yal-Ku Lagoon, very private, and for its funky eclectic decor. Previously owned by the band The Greatful Dead, this house is perfect for large groups or families, and has hosted some big name celebrities in it's time. Casa del Sol can be rented with up to five bedrooms and can sleep up to 14 people comfortably. My husband and I hosted our wedding at the eccentric and dream house of Casa del Sol. We stayed here with our immediate family and friends and invited the other 40 + guests over for the lagoon-side wedding and reception. It was one of the best weeks of our lives! We ate meals together at the large patio on the main floor and watched the sunsets on the rooftop. The couple who maintained the property grew to be our friends and catered to our every need. We loved the large bedrooms and open areas to socialize and cook. Best of all, private access to the lagoon! We hope to return to akumal next year to celebrate our one year anniversary!

I've stayed here twice for a week, and everyone loved the house. The lagoon access, large patio, and outdoor kitchen are the best parts, and I would never want to stay somewhere without them. The tower bedroom is really neat, though you'd better be prepared to sweat in the summer and fall. The beds are kinda hard and the wireless internet signal doesn't extend much beyond the patio, but I guess you shouldn't be spending a lot of time sleeping or on the computer here... The manager, Roger, is very helpful, and the caretaker, Obideo, is indeed an excellent chef.

The only dissatisfaction we had with Casa del Sol was the inadequate a/c unit in the Tower Bedroom. The view from there is magnificant, but my mother-in-law had to sleep in there and was very uncomfortable every night. The reservation process did not go smoothly and I often did not get responses to my emails prior to the trip. But once we arrived, everything went perfectly. Roger met us at the property and checked in on us every day. Obideo and Merily were there every day to prepare many delicious meals and keep the house tidy. They were all absolutely WONDERFUL!

The location right on yuku lagoon was excellent as was the help and the food they fixed for us. The outside kitchen was a wonderful place to hang.

We had a wonderful time at Casa Del Sol - the lagoon was wonderful and used twice a day - perfect location for our family. We used Akumal Dive Center for diving. Overall the vacation was awesome but I do think it is time to refurbish some of the fabrics on the terrace, get some fluffier pillows for the bed. I am used to a plusher mattress and they were all a little hard. The vacation was wonderful but for just a little bit of investment in the comfort of the beds and a couple of pieces of comfortable furniture to lounge about in the family room and on the terrace - it would be awesome. Obie was a terrific cook and Merrilee wonderful. Overhead fans should be added under the terrace - you can put a light kit on it but it would be wonderful to have the fans blowing at night. Home Depot price on 2 fans $200.

A very beautiful house. We enjoyed the convenience of snorkeling in the lagoon and the tranquility of Akumal. While the view from the tower was breathtaking, we found the tower bedroom to be too hot to sleep in. Maybe a new air conditioner would help. The well equipped kitchens made it easy to prepare meals, however having Obidio cook was a was a treat. He prepared a couple of excellent dinners for us. We enjoyed spending time in the lower living area that blended into the attractively landscaped yard. Overall, a great house for a family or large group.

We absolutely LOVED staying at Casa del Sol and are already talking about a return trip soon! The villa is so unique and wonderful. We really enjoyed Obideo and Merily and thought they did a fabulous job keeping the villa in order and preparing the most excellent food! One of the best features of Casa del Sol is it's proximity to the beautiful lagoon! Our kids were in heaven and loved being able to walk to the back of the propery and enjoy some of the best snorkeling we've ever seen! The public beach in Akumal is just a short drive up the road and was quite beautiful and relaxing. We had some wonderful meals, met some wonderful people and look forward to enjoying another vacation in the quaint little town of Akumal.

The location was unbeatable and the house has everything a family needs. The only thing was that the main room lacks air conditioning and got quite hot when cooking and dining there. Other than that, it was amazing. There was great security and the housekeepers were warm and friendly.
