Lebanon, OhioA Perfect Time at Pinewood Cabin
Left on 06/13/2013 for a stay in May 2013
Though we usually go to Maine, my husband searched for a dog friendly cabin in Hocking Hills, Ohio this year for our anniversary holiday. Blessedly he found Marsh Hollow! We have rented cabins before that we ended up leaving early because they were not as they were represented. Marsh Hollow's Pinewood Cabin was better than we hoped for; so much so that we extended are stay there! The cabin was extremely clean, the kitchen was well equipped, the deck was delightful, soaking in the hot tub was wonderful, watching the hummingbirds was a thrill, and the entire experience was the quiet solitude we were looking for in a time away. We'll be back!!!

We had a great stay at Marsh Hollow. We fell in love with the cabin and especially the hot tub! It was still kinda cold during our stay, but we visited a couple trails close by on Saturday afternoon. Mary and Dave's dogs were also over for our stay and we just fell in love with them. It was very hard not to let them in! Thanks for sharing your amazing cabin with us busy city folks, it gave us much needed time off! We'll definitely be back!

If your looking for a peaceful retreat not to far off the beaten track. This is the place to stay. Easy access to highways but remote enough on 10 acres to be very peaceful. Close to several hikes, you can even take a hike around the property. Everything you need here and a wonderful hot tub to use after hiking all day. I have to say never new this hilly region was in Ohio.

Great service the owners are very nice people an easy to talk to.The cabin was fantastic they had light music playing very clean easy check in. a lot of room for a me my wife and 2 dogs very warm and cozy the deck off the living room was big and porch was covered so rain, snow did not matter and the hot tub was real nice and warm alot of flat yard for games dogs kids camp fires across from the cabin are the trails i loved that for me and the dogs alot of privacy and secluded but it was close to hockinghills state park and restaurants. grocery stores pizza. my favorite part about everything is the property cabin and location is very good for every type of person whether you like going for a walks ,hiking or just fun with your dogs or kids it was the best time i have had in years.

Beatiful location and cabin within minutes of Hocking Hills main attractions, Old Man's Cave, Cedar Falls etc. We had a great time and it was great to see the area covered in snow. Mary Marsh was great and very accomodating. We would definitely recommend this to friends and family.

If you're debating whether or not to book this cabin, do it! It is truly an amazing location. Unlike many of the cabins in Hocking Hills, this is not in a group of cabins. It is as private as it gets. The cabin is perfect, well built, clean and myself, my girlfriend and our puppy felt at home immediately. My only complaint is that I couldn't stay longer!

Left on 01/23/2013 for a stay in August 2011
This place was incredibly clean, especially for being pet friendly! Also, the deck was wonderful for sitting out and looking over the woods - complete with gates to keep the dogs on the deck. If our dogs were trained off-leash, it would have been even better but it was still wonderful having them on-leash. With all of the nearby hiking trails that were not only beautiful, but also dog-friendly - it was an awesome trip for us and our dogs. They were exhausted every day! Even the local restaurants were accommodating to our dogs and wonderful!

I have stayed in hocking hills before in another cabin. Marsh Hallow is an excellent place to stay. It's nice to find a cabin that we can take our dogs to, but not pay almost a full night stay in pet fees! We found Marsh Hollow to be just what we were looking for. We definately plan on returning. Thank you Mary and Dave.

Left on 01/07/2013 for a stay in January 2013
My wife and I had an excellent time spending the first couple days of the New Year at the Marsh's cabin. There wasn't any negative surprises, everything was the way they said it was on their website. Had a nice little hike around their property in the snow.
Only had one little hickup trying to get up the hill because of the ice and snow, but we threw some weight in the trunk and had no problem after that.
We hope to comeback someday with a dog and maybe get a chance to meet the Marsh's and their animals.
We also appreciated the books, dvds, and games they had available for us to use.Response from Mary Marsh - 01/09/2013

Thanks for the great review. We know that drive can be a challenge, because it's all uphill. When you visit again, please feel free to call on us for help getting out - but it seems like you met the challenge. Welcome to our life in the Hocking Hills!

not only is mary awesome, but the cabin and area surrounding it are as well. close enough to go frolick in hocking hills and then come back and kick it in the cabin and/or hot tub. my dog was stoked the whole time. especially about the mini electric wood stove which he claimed front row seats to immediately. Everyone should experience! and mary's horses were very cute too.

We received great service, really liked the cabin, it was on a beautiful property that we were able to hike. Also, the cabin was clean, with a nice relaxing hot tub. The cabin owners were very nice and accomodating. The best part was that we were able to take the canine member of our family! We very much enjoyed our stay. The cabin is near hiking areas of rock house and others. However, it is somewhat secluded (which we loved) and a little drive to Logan. This is a great cabin for anyone who loves the outdoors and wants to enjoy a nice getaway! :)

The service is always amazing and Mary is so nice and sweet. Everything always looks so nice and cozy, inside and out. The cabin is always clean and refreshing. They take pride in keeping things in good working order and updated as well. The hot tub is awesome, but the huge deck it is on is a really nice touch. Half of the deck is covered very nicely, so if it rains or snows, you can still hang out there. The cabin is in a great location and it's on "tons" of property with its own trails. There are so many other parks and attractions not too far from the cabin as well. This is one awesome getaway worth getting away too...we'll be back!

Lovely location to get 'away from it all' with the perks of a hot tub, wonderful kitchen, gas grill and more.
I was happy my girlfriend and i were able to bring our dogs, and they had plenty of room to explore and run around. Mary was even sweet enough to explain how to light the grill! Would love to return. -

The cabin is lovely and everything is provided. The property is completely secluded and beautiful for walking the dogs. Hocking Hills is very close, but removed enough that the holiday traffic to the park does not come near the cabin. Wonderful place, we've visited several times and will continue to come. The owners of the cabin are also very accomodating and lovely people.

Left on 12/15/2011 for a stay in December 2011
This was our second stay at Marsh Hollow in three years. Mary and Dave's cabin is in an ideal, private setting. We are both music teachers and love the welcome we get when we arrive to soft classy music. The cabin is always clean and warm. The views from the property are as ideal as one can get. It is so quiet. The bed is so comfortable and there is every basic you would need in the kitchen and bathroom.
If you love watching birds, the front window overlooks birdfeeders and we saw three types of woodpeckers, nuthatches, Bluejays, chickadees...sitting in the rocker and watching the birds was heavenly.
In the evening, we relaxed in the hot tub while a family of deer came down onto the hollow to graze within 100 feet. Seeing deer is very common here-one welcomed us as we arrived in the drive.
Thank you, Mary and Dave for sharing your cabin. When we couldn't book a weekend in your cabin, we have tried two other places, and none of them after hours of researching what was available compared remotely to Marsh Hollow.
God bless!

We have stayed in six others cabins in the Hocking Hills area and Marsh Hollow's Pinewood Cabin was wonderful. Great location and the property is beautiful. The cabin had everything you could want or need and we loved the deck with the hot tub, rocking chairs and table with chairs along with the outside speakers from the CD/DVD player. Enjoyed sitting on the deck and loved having a fire in the pit with picnic table close by. Definitely will be back next year (if I can wait that long).

Marsh Hollow cabin exceeded all of our expections for a cabin rental. Upon entering, we were greeted with a personal note from the property owners and a sweet cookie treat. The cabin is very clean and had lots of room for two adults and their two dogs. From the well-appointed kitchen, large bedroom, to the luxurious-for-a-cabin bath, we felt very comfortable at Pinewood cabin. The huge covered patio/deck with the hot tub was also an unexpected surprise. We will definitely return to take more advantage of the 14 acres of beautiful, secluded nature.

This was my third time to stay at Marsh Hollow and all visits have been terrific. Mary and Dave provide a very pretty cabin with many amenities in the midst of a beautiful area of Ohio. You can hike throughout the area and go back to the cabin to relax in the hot tub, catch a game on TV, watch birds, cook out on the fire or in the full kitchen. On this trip, our family took a stained glass workshop taught by audrey at the Scenic Way gift shop not far from the cabin and ash Cave. My 11-yr. old son enjoyed the class as much as my husband and I did. We recommend this class to others looking for something different to do while in the area.

Had a wonderful time at the cabin and all the sites. The cabin was in a perfect location, everything was close enough that it only took about 15 min. to get to most of the attractions but you weren't surounded by people. Best sleep we've had all year! Haha. The cabin gave that perfect cozy feel, very little noise, and the bed was so comfy. We also had perfect weather for the hottub and sitting on the deck at night. Best vacation for the two of us so far and we can't wait to come back. :) Have also started recomending to family and friends.

The cabin was extremely clean and very functional. We felt far enough away from society while at the cabin but still close enough to the state parks. Our dog had a great time exploring the property, but he didn't seem to notice that other dogs had stayed in the cabin. We thought there might be a "dog" smell, being dog friendly, but not at all. The deck was great to hang out on, so we cooked most meals out there on the grill, sat in the rockers and just watch the birds, and did a jigsaw puzzle on the table out there. Even when it rained, the covered area was big enough to keep us dry. We can't wait to come back.

The cabin was absolutely beautiful. My boyfriend and I brought both of our dogs and had a joyous, relaxing stay. Everything we needed was provided. The dogs wanted to stay forever! We hiked in the afternoon and then let the dogs run in the acres of land behind the cabin. We used the grill provided on the spacious porch to grill burgers and eat out while watching the sun go down. We absolutely loved the hot tub! I think we used it 5 times in the short two days we stayed. I wish I lived here year round. I am definitely coming back and recommend this cabin to anyone that wants a relaxing weekend away from the city and hustle and bustle of life. The Marsh's were so very kind to us, too. If we had any questions or problems, they were a phone call away...also just a short walk to their property located right beside the cabin. Thank you for giving my boyfriend and me the Spring Break we desperately needed!

It gave our kids a chance to explore (and our dog) while we were relaxing and feeling safe and secure. Also has a private hiking trail for really good exercise and a hot tub to soak in after. One last thing, We gave the kids the bedroom, so my husband and I slept on the futon. And it was so comfortable! We will definetly be back!

We found Marsh Hollow online and this cabin fit everything we were looking for and the price couldn't be beat. The cabin is beautiful inside and out and offered everything we could need for our stay. The hot tub is a nice treat early on a nippy morning or to relax after a hike on the trails. Our kids enjoyed the wildlife- birds to watch out the back window, deer in the field and bald eagles soaring over head. Roasting marshmallows over the fire in the evening as the sky became a million sparkles. The owner's dogs are very friendly and our Lab had fun running with her "new friends". The location is nice and quiet but close to anything you would want to do in the Hocking Hills. As a family we enjoy geo-caching and letterbox adventures and there were plenty to search for in the area. We had a wonderful time!

Harsh Hollow is an excellent choice for your visit to Hocking Hills. It is located right in the mist of all the attractions but nestled on 14 acres of private land for lots of relaxation. The large yard has lots of run for your pets to run which will ensure they are wore out also at the end of the day.

This is the second time since Feb. 2009 at Marsh Hollow. If you need a wonderful place to just get away, I mean phones, people and the every day drag this is the place. All you need is foof and beverages. Dave and Mary have thought of everything from utensils to wonderful robes to wear. The setting is secluded and quiet, make your own camp fire if you want they even supply the logs. Don't get me wrong there are places to go and things to do if you want to. But for my wife and myself we just hung out at the cabin. No phones no kids it is great. So if you are looking for a private spot don't pass this one up. A definate 5 star.

Left on 03/20/2011 for a stay in March 2011
We wanted to get out of the city life for a couple of days.. So we got out of Columbus and found this affordable lovely cabin online. Right when we got there we already felt like home... the best part about it was we didn't have to leave our dogs behind.. they got to come along and enjoy the stay and this cabin has a huge field to play in with the dogs, also! The cabin felt like home, very spacious, hot tub was amazing of course, flat screen with cable- so you don't have to miss a game!, grill, and wasn't too far away from Old Man's Cave and the other attractions. Wish we got to stay a little longer, but we will definately be returning!

Our second stay was as peaceful and relaxing as the first. The cabin is always spotless- so spotless and animal odor free that our 3 dogs did not even waste any time sniffing around. They didnt seem to be able to detect the presence of any other dogs. They loved it! The scenery is beautiful, the cabin is cozy, and the hot tub is perfect. Mary Marsh is friendly and helpful. We will definitely rent again.

We highly recommend the cabin at Marsh Hollow. Our family of four (and small dog) visited for a weekend in November, and we were so pleased with all of the thoughtful touches around the cabin, as well as the gorgeous scenery. The deck is a highlight and we spent many hours lounging there; I especially appreciated the outdoor speakers! We loved walking around the grounds and had two nice fires in the fire ring. We hope to return soon!!!

Firewood, outdoor games, and even cheerful and playful vacation pets that greeted us while walking the wooded trail came with our stay. This is the perfect cabin for myself, my husband and our dog Lucy. It is cozy, clean and very comfortable. It's a place where we can get away from computers and cell phones, and just relax. When we rent it in the Spring/Summer, we enjoy the great deck and fire ring; when we stay in the colder months, we enjoy watching movies and warming up inside by the stove after a long hike. Anytime of year, we enjoy the hot tub! Our dog loves to run in the big field in front of the property and to take the property hike that the owners have marked for visitors. The cabin is conveniently located close to all the hiking areas of Hocking Hills. We get the best sleep when we stay here and leave refreshed, as sad as we are to leave.

We visited Marsh Hollow in 9/2010 for a week. We had everything we needed in the cabin for the week. We will definitely be back. We did a lot of hiking in Hocking Hills State Park, antique shopping and enjoying the beautiful weather .Ash Cave was gorgeous along with Conkle's Hollow. We went canoeing at night, horseback riding but need to come back and zip line. We visited Nelsonville on Labor Day, but the shops were closed . Some great places to eat were Olde Dutch Restaurant for the fried chicken, Jimbos for the burgers and Millstone BBQ. Make sure you visit the Washboard Museum. Due to the dry weather we were unable to see the waterfalls and that is enough reason to come back and explore this area. Thanks for letting us stay at Marsh Hollow

Columbus, OhioKeep your dogs under control
Left on 09/29/2010 for a stay in September 2010
Upon arrival I was disappointed to learn there is a modest sized horse pasture with an electrified fence just 50 yards away from the cabin that smaller dogs can fit right under (if they avoid getting shocked). I was looking forward to privacy and letting my boston terriers run free on the advertised 14 acres. I had to keep them on a leash the entire visit because they wanted to go play with the horses. Also, the owner's dogs run free and although their very nice, they'll come right up and bother you and your dogs. This creates another reason to keep you dogs leased because they'll want to go chase and play with the owners' dogs all over god knows where.
Also, I didn't feel very private. The cabin sits just opposite of the owner's house, separated only be the pasture and a beat up garage. The cabin is a good distance from their house, but nearly a straight line of site. It didn't feel quite as intimate as other cabins.
We're going to try and take our dogs someplace else the next visit.Response from Mary Marsh - 10/06/2010
Owner
We're sorry our cabin was not quite the right fit for you, but it is helpful that you have pointed out good reasons for guests to keep their dogs under control which we say on our web site, along with the fact that our dogs are on the property. In addition, the first page of the guide in the cabin also asks you to call us to secure our dogs if they bother you. We'll mention that to guests on arrival in the future.
However, we do not agree with your description of "a straight line of site" from our home to the cabin, but if that is your impression, so be it. You will hopefully be happy elsewhere, but we would advise you to keep you dogs leashed wherever that is as they don't seem to listen very well. -

My husband and I were in the cabin about 3 hours when we decided it was our best vacation ever! This cozy little cabin had everything to offer. Great views from the deck with a grill where we prepared dinner every night. We watched the humming birds and cardinals enjoy the birdfeeders around the deck. The hot tub was great, clean and well maintained and very relaxing. From the music that can be played on the deck to movies/dvds, books and many other small details, Mary and Dave have thought of everything. It was very private and inviting. We had such a great time we didn't want to leave. The personal touches that the Marsh's put into their place made us feel right at home. They thought of everything... all we needed to bring was clothing, personal items, food and our dog crate. The cabin is close to all of the Hocking Hills attractions. The children had fun playing in the creek and spending time in the hot tub. The large deck faces acres of grass and mountain. The birdfeeder in front of the large window brought so many different birds for us to view up close it was wonderful. I also enjoyed the flower garden that attracted so many butterflies. We just got back and have friends that want to stay at Marsh Hollow! We are happy to find this gem!

This is an unbeatable vacation away from the busy world, right on the out-skirt of Hocking Hills State Park. The price for a pet is very reasonable and no matter how much energy they have, this place has enough open space for them to run and be worn out. The owners are a phone call away if anything should arise. It feels like you're far away, yet close enough if anything is needed.

We head down to the Hocking Hills once or twice a year and have stayed in many cabins. This was our first visit to Marsh Hollow and will not be our last, as we could bring along our four legged family members Arwin and Rowan. The setting at Marsh Hollow is so peaceful, the cabin is a cozy retreat you can tell Mary has taken a great deal of care in the decorating of this little get away, music playing when we arrived an added touch the large deck with hottub, out door speakers and yes doggie dishes.
Our first evening in we met the Marsh's pups
so sweet they visited us a few times. We hiked the trails on the property beautiful! lounged in the hot tub and played with the dogs (again so nice they could join us) We love the location as it is so close to all the great hiking at Old Mans Cave (which we usally do the longer hike from there to Rose Lake and on to Cedar Falls.
My Husband and I had a wonderful time, we needed to get away for a min this was our first trip in the spring, we had a house gutting fire in august and have just moved back home packing and contractor's this had been our lives for the past 9 months Marsh Hollow was a great few days for us to regroup and didn't have to leave our pups at home they to have been through enough.

Staying at Marsh Hollow was a real treat. It was the perfect combination of rustic and comfortable. Mary made sure to provide special touches that made our stay comfortable and welcoming. Our teens and dogs enjoyed the wide expanse, the stream and the trails nearby. Although it is a bit farther from Hocking Hills trails, it's a great place to stay if you are interested in hiking, then coming back to a scenic cabin to cook out, sit in the hot tub and enjoy nature from a great deck.

when we got to the cabin there was a sign that welcome us. Inside there was a letter and a book telling us how to use all stuff in the cabin. the cabin was bigger then others cabins we stayed in . It looked like a log cabin inside and out. The cabin had woods on three side and a open field on oneside to watch wild life crossing. while there we saw deer and all sort of birds feeding. If you want to go out to eat there are places that are easy to drive to. The wife said we had to come back year at a later date just so we can see all the trees blooming to see there colors. The best part about giong its very private. Sitting on the deck sitting on the deck was very quite and peaceful.

The cabin was very clean and nicely built with much to offer. It was quiet and somewhat secluded. It was a great place to watch wildlife. My four year old son enjoyed watching the woodpeckers every morning and the deer at dusk. I highly recommend that if you choose to stay at this cabin or any in the Hocking Hills region in the winter to have four wheel drive. Even with the slightest bit of snow it is extremely difficult to get up the hilly driveway.

My wife and I had a great time at Marsh Hollow. We took our two greyhounds, it was nice to find a place that not only allowed dogs but welcomes them. We enjoyed a lot of hiking which was easily accessible from the cabin. The cabin itself was great, a very nice place. We cooked out one night over an open flame in the fire pit and another evening we grilled out on the deck. Each morning we spent breakfast watching all the birds come to the feeder; Red-bellied woodpeckers, Hairy woodpeckers, White-breasted nuthatches, a lot of Tufted titmouse and Black-capped chickadess. A very nice place to stay and relax, highly recommended.

Being able to bring our dogs along was a major plus, since they are considered part of the family. Instructions for everything in the cabin were provided in a binder for ease of use. Most anything you need is already provided by the Marshs so all you need to bring is food and toiletries. From the cabin it is easy to get around to the various parks, trails and caves in the area. SHHHH!
Don't tell too many people about this lovely cabin in the woods of Hocking
Hills. If you are a couple or small family you couldn't find a more agreeable
place to stay. Close to all the attractions yet still set on a quiet 14 acre
parcel, this cabin has been our best experience in 15+ years of renting in
this area. I cannot even describe all of the special touches the Marshes have
made to the cabin and property. There are beautiful trees and bird feeders
surrounding the cabin, even a nice nature trail right on the property! All the
amenities are provided. There is a complete kitchen, fireplace, games, tv
with satellite, gas grill, fire ring (wood provided) and a wonderful sound
system (you can even listen to your I-pod with speakers by the hot tub).
The Marshes were sure to include not only a guide to the area but a really
nice internet listing of the complete happenings in the area during our stay.
The atmosphere is PERFECT. We rent in Hocking Hills at least once a year
and though we have stayed at many nice cabins this is the first time we are
rebooking the same place and this is within the hour of the arrival of our
first stay. Don't forget to book your Zipline tour. It is a BLAST!
Thanks!

However, as soon as we stepped foot on the deck and heard relaxing music playing a calm came over us. (even the dogs) The cabin was lit and welcoming. The next morning we found to our delight 2 visitors (Mac and Bode). After introducing the dogs, Steve and I along with all 5 dogs went for a hike on Marsh property. What a great time!!! It was so hard to leave on Sunday and come back to the real world. Mary, thank you so much for allowing us to stay with 3 large dogs. The fully stocked kitchen, full size frig and patio grill makes eating in easy. The verticle log cabin is so homey with just the right touches and decorations and not too country. Our favorite part was rocking on the patio while watching the humming birds feed and the deer eat apples that had fallen from the apple tree located just off the back porch. We felt right at home from the beginning with the welcome note on the chalk board outside the front door to the bath robes hanging ready for our use.
