The house was great and met all of our needs except air conditioning. Once we figured out that opening all the windows and turning on the fans cooled the house down quickly, we were fine. The location is nice and quiet as far as tourist & road noise goes. However, Kauai has roosters and chickens everywhere and the roosters start cocka-doodle-dooing at 2am and go on most of the day. It's a bit frustrating trying to sleep past 2am. Part of the problem may be the caged Hen house that someone has built on the property behind the house. The wifi was not consistently available, might take a hot spot.
We enjoyed our stay, opened the house up when we returned in the evening, sat outside, and I slept with earplugs. This property helped us relax and enjoy our stay. Banana trees and many other plants all around the house help keep it cool, with the ocean breeze and are a nice touch to the atmosphere of the house.

This is a delightful home in a pretty neighbourhood close to the port. There is some hustle and bustle (which we enjoyed) with the canoe club across the road and the various houses roundabout and the port can be a little noisy in the morning but the accommodation is really comfortable with great equipment in the kitchen and comfy sofas in the living area. It is not airconditioned but there is a pretty constant breeze off the river which comes through the jalousies and the fans work really well - we were very comfortable at all times. The house has some very attractive carved wooden features and is nicely furnished throughout. Three bedrooms, one on-suite, are all pretty comfortable, and the bathrooms work - one with a walk in shower and one with a jet tub and shower. The master bedroom bed and counters are a bit low for the average sized person but not impossibly so. There is a large shopping center about 4 to 5 minutes away by car with a good sized supermarket and also CostCo. Lihue airport is about 10 minutes away by car but we were never bothered by the air traffic. Don't be put off by the road into the neighbourhood which goes through the small port and looks a bit industrial - the area around the house is very nice. There isn't much garden/yard around the house but next door's is beautifully kept up so you don't notice the lack. One important thing, the storage, washing machine and dryer (good quality) additional bathroom etc are all on the ground/first floor and the living accommodation is upstairs on the upper floor so this is not suitable for people with difficulty going up stairs. This area is a little more rainy than closer to Poipu but it is really beautiful, with lovely hills rising behind the house.

Greg from Garden Island was very helpful in arranging this rental for us. We picked up our rental car at the airport and had no trouble following the directions to the house. The house is lovely, nicely furnished with full kitchen. It was a pleasant surprise to find that either previous renters or the owners had left condiments in the fridge and an assortment of spices in the cupboard. We added a few more when we left but it was nice not having to buy items for so short a time. There is no air conditioning but the layout of the house is such that opening the windows airs the house out in minutes and cools it off quickly. There is a lovely lanai with table and chairs for morning coffee. The location is prefect, very quiet residential area but right across from the small boat harbor and the canoe club. We could go for walks in the neighbourhood, watch canoeists and kayakers on the water and see the cruise ships in harbour. It is also within walking distance of some shops and restaurants. The main floor is elevated with the carport and laundry on ground level. It is not suitable for anyone who cannot walk up a flight of stairs. However, I did notice a baby gate in a closet so the stairs can be blocked off from the lanai.

From the moment I started inquiring and all throughout our stay, I received outstanding customer service from Sue and Greg. The property itself was exactly as described and had an amazingly outfitted kitchen. It was nice to be out of the hussel and bussel of the main tourist strip, yet central enough to easily access all parts of the island by car. This was a perfect location and had the room and flexibility for a family of four. A exceptionally well-equipped and cared for property with outstanding service. I would definitely go back as well as recommend this to anyone planning a trip to Kauai.

Aloha and mahalo! We do agree that Nahoa River Hale (house) is a very nice home and it does have a great kitchen. $150 per night for a 3 bedroom, 2 bath home with full ktchen, lanai and gas outdoor grill for 4 people seems to be affordable rate for a private home.

5 stars, 6 if I could. Great place. Very homey feeling. I stayed their for a month and was sad to leave. The river / parking lot across the street can get little loud and trashy at times, but that is the only negative. Ohh, and I guess the Roosters might bother some people, but we got used to it pretty quick.
Just writing this makes me want to go back. Enjoy -
