“Beautiful Paradise” This immaculate well maintained condo came equipped with everything needed to snorkel, body board, picnic or just rest by the ocean. The view from the balcony was breathtaking. The condo grounds, pool area, hot tub and barbecue were very well maintained. The office staff, Kitty , welcomed us when we checked in and represented the condo owners with courtesy and kindness. The owners provided us with locations of stores to purchase groceries or whatever needed. Their personal touches on their condo made us feel like we were at home.

Ocean Front Kona Makai Perfect Sunset Views Furnished 1 bedroom Condo

Kailua-Kona condo

1 bedroom / 1 bathroom / sleeps 4

“Execellent and affordable place to stay in Kona.” We have stayed here five times in past seven years. It is definitely our favorite place to stay in Kona. We have visited every Hawaiian island except Lanai. The Big Island is our favorite and the Kona Makai is a wonderful, beautiful, quite and relaxing place to stay. Grills are located on the ocean front. Excellent sunsets with the occasional "green flash." Walk to town, restaurants, church, numerous beaches and stores. We highly recommend it to family and friends.

Kailua-Kona apartment

“Amazing!” What a wonderful place to stay on the Big Island. This condo is as nicely appointed as any place we have ever rented. The recently upgraded kitchen was particularly nice. The oceanfront location is truly wonderful. We watched turtles daily foraging in the tide pools below the lanai. We watched whales daily swimming close enough to view them with or without binoculars and we watched very skilled surfers riding the waves at Banyons. We enjoyed all this from the privacy of the spacious lanai. The owner, Ron, and the property manager, Julie, are both very pleasant and answered all our inquiries promptly and courteously.

Oceanfront Luxury, Private Pool and Hot Tub - and Safe from Lava!

Keaau house

3 bedrooms / 2 bathrooms / sleeps 7

“Big waves” This house was well decorated and nicely manicured. The master bedroom was huge with the sounds of the crashing waves the loudest, so cool! I've been to many houses in the Hawaiian paradise park district and I have to say the hot water heater was by far the best! So everyone had hot water for their showers. The shower in the master bedroom was just perfect. The pool and spa were very enjoyable, especially at night! The only deficeit would be the 3rd bedroom which is really small, really, but the person who stayed in the room did not complain. The office on the other hand was the same size as the 2nd bedroom. The view and waves were awesome. Look for turtles in the morning, they like to surf the waves. Saw a whale too. Nice quiet stay!!

Private apartment at Killino Kona Coffee Farm SPECIAL RATE check us out

Captain Cook apartment

2 bedrooms / 1 bathroom / sleeps 4

“It felt like home” This is a very well appointed apartment, which made it feel like home. Met with flowers and a bowl of fresh fruit from the farm. We enjoyed breakfast on the lanai with views out to the distant water. The evenings brought the farm alive with sounds of the coqui frogs and geckos. Todd gave us a farm tour, we learned much from him and his daughter! We made good use of the boogie boards, beach chairs and snorkel gear, much appreciated! The only downside is it is difficult to find after dark, if arriving then. Also be aware that Captain Cook area is a bit far removed from everything. We did a lot of driving, but felt it was worth it to come back to this sweet place every night.

Koa Hale-Oceanfront Home 3 BR/3 BA Sleeps 8

Kailua-Kona house

3 bedrooms / 3 bathrooms / sleeps 8

“Dramatic ocean views and close snorkel beach in a beautiful home” We recently stayed at this property with our daughter and her family which included my 2 grandkids, ages 6 and 9. We've been to Hawaii several times as a two generation family, but found this house with its location to be our favorite to date. Kids snorkeled at nearby snorkel beach almost every day. House is well maintained and equipped. We watched lots of fish, turtles and even say whales just sitting on the deck. The house is quiet at night. Having bedrooms on either side of the main living area gave everyone plenty of privacy. House is air conditioned, but they don't automatically leave you the controls. It was warm during our visit, so the air was needed at times. Property manager charges extra $25 per day for a/c. If we hadn't asked the people cleaning before we arrived, we might have spent some uncomfortable times. Anyway, be sure to ask about a/c. Otherwise, a super location and very nice home right on alii Drive.

House of Love by the Sea/ Oceanfront & Salt Pool

Keaau house

5 bedrooms / 3 bathrooms / sleeps 8

“Great Party House” We stayed with 7 people in this spacious lovely home with a beautiful view. The neighborhood is quiet and the house is set up for enough privacy. Although I love the hustle and bustle of Oahu, it's so nice to vacation in seclusion now and then on the Big Island. If we want excitement, Hilo and Kona are not that far away. When the weather is hot, there is a wonderful pool to cool off in. I'm looking forward to going back!

“Trip to Paradise” The condo was amazing, no expense was spared. Great beds, furniture, cookware, everything. We watched surfers from the lanai nearly every day, and the sunsets were the most spectacular we've ever seen. A car is needed for this location - honestly like all locations on the island, a car is absolutely needed to be able to fully experience and appreciate the big island. We absolutely would love to stay again. Kyle was an amazing host, and the big island was like no place we've ever seen in our lives. Truly a paradise on earth!

Pahukoa Hale - Direct Ocean Front Hawaiian Style home in Kona Bay Estates.

Kailua-Kona house

3 bedrooms / 3 bathrooms / sleeps 8

“Some patina but well maintained and great location” The property is old (as we knew from the description) but in very good condition. We would suggest to add a water boiler since the antique stove is slow and inconvenient. But this is a minor issue, altogether the property is very nice, spacious, in good condition, we would definitely use it again and recommend it to others. Particularly the pool is just great - large and deep, made for diving.

Breathtaking Sunsets ~ Oceanfront Gem ~ 5 King Bedrooms, Pool/Spa

Kailua-Kona house

6 bedrooms / 6 bathrooms / sleeps 16

“Absolutely gorgeous location, and beautiful home” This home was so beautiful, and in such a beautiful location, we didn't even leave it many of the days of our 2-week vacation. We had 3 families, with quite a few children ranging from 6 to 23 years old. We had everything we needed, and room for all of us. The only sleeping disadvantages are that the two biggest and ocean-view suites had daybeds or pull out couches, along with the king beds. Since we needed those small beds to accommodate the children, the adults slept in smaller, no-view rooms (none of the adults wanted children in their rooms with them - for obvious reasons!). However, those smaller rooms were still extremely comfortable and spacious, with nice private bathrooms. And, we spent most of our time outside anyway! We listened to and watched waves 24/7, had lots of fun in the pool and hot tub, and cooked many delicious meals in the spacious and well-stocked kitchen. The kids spent hours (at low tides) scouring the rocks for sea creatures. We saw turtles, dolphins and whales many times during our stay. They also spent hours in the cozy, comfortable entertainment room. We would highly recommend Hale Pua, and hope we'll have a chance to stay there again!

Beautiful Condo Just Steps from Rare Sandy Beach

Kailua-Kona apartment

1 bedroom / 1 bathroom / sleeps 2

“Wonderful Condo in the Heart of Kailua-Kona” My fiancee and I really enjoyed staying at this condo. It was quite nice inside with a great kitchen, living room, bathroom, king bed in the bedroom, and a lovely lanai overlooking the pool and ocean. Perfect for two. Beach gear (including snorkels/fins), washer/dryer in unit (huge plus because it allows you to pack way less clothes - $50 round-trip per checked bag, are you kidding me!) free wifi access, and a bookshelf with lots of Big Island tour guides and reading material were all provided as an added plus. The condo itself was located right off ali'i Dr., which is the main drag through Kailua-Kona, so it was within walking access to all the restaurants, stores, the pier, etc. (awesome because parking is not the easiest down there.) The condo grounds were also very nice - we didn't try the pool but it looked clean, and had BBQ units, which we also would have liked to use but didn't get the chance. Really this condo had everything we were looking for. I highly recommend.

“Loved it” We loved this accommodation and its location. It was so relaxing and peaceful and we really appreciated the well-stocked kitchen, free wifi and homely touches like the books and games (not that we spent much time inside). We liked it so much that we extended our stay! Thankyou for making our stay so comfortable and hassle-free - it was a great base to explore the Big Island.

Hawaiian 4 bedroom Ocean Retreat

Keaau apartment

4 bedrooms / 4 bathrooms / sleeps 8

“the most relaxing 10 days!” Our stay at the paradise ocean retreat was the most relaxing 10 days I've had in the last 10 years. I was so happy to get a good night's sleep every night except for the first (jet lag.) Being there took away all the stress I brought to Hawaii. Everything about the environment was relaxing, I loved the gently touch of the trade winds (although it can get a bit windy) I felt like I was breathing the cleanest air in the world. We particularly enjoyed soaking in the furo (Japanese style hot tub) every night and lying in bed, listening to the ocean was a wonderful way to fall asleep. The one bedroom apartment was well designed, spacious and quite comfortable for two people. The ocean view from the bedroom and living room is amazing. My wife spent her mornings walking the garden. She said there are so many kinds of fragrant flowers she never saw before. The owners are very kind, we picked some papaya, passion fruit and herbs from their garden. We drove to Volcano, several state parks. They are 20-45 minutes drive and quite unique of the Big Island. If you visit there, make sure you go to Makuu Sunday market. its 10 minutes drive. The market is like a festival with music, food court, locally harvested fruit and flowers and local crafts people selling their art, crafts, clothing, etc. It was hard to leave and we hope to be able to return next year.

“Great Value in Hawaii” The temple is totally charming, very clean and comfortable. I even enjoyed staying at the Temple on some days lounging around instead of going to the beach. Love the claw foot tubs and the comfy beds the place is very homey. There are beautiful gardens with incredible foliage and the temple is conveniently walking distance to Laupahoehoe Point. I will return. Raini

“Kona Hawaii Stay” The bad: no air conditioning or elevator. Billed as a three bedroom was actually only two with fold out. A toilet was leaking a little as well as bath room faucet- no big deal really. The good- absolute priceless ocean view with great privacy and superb lanai. Very nice furnishings, art work and flat screen. Private gated condos with excellent landscaping. The unit was also very large for the money. Would we stay here again? - absolutely!

Oceanfront Beach House w/ Pool and Spa!

Pahoa house

1 bedroom / 1 bathroom / sleeps 2

“Great house with a wonderful view!” We were making out third trip to the Big Island and decided to see another part of the island other than the Kona resort area. The beach house is located in Highway 137 which provides some the most gorgeous scenery on the island. The town do Pāhoa makes you feel like your back in time and totally off the grid. It does however have some wonderful places to eat and stores for groceries and alcohol. The house itself is wonderful and provides everything you need for a relaxing, private stay. The two decks are perched over the ocean and the waves provide plenty of background sound. The private pool is awesome and the swimmer can get plenty of work in. Jogging in the morning along 137/Red road provides some great views of the shoreline, ocean and local vegetation. We would gladly go back as the owners and managers provide a great retreat and a very relaxing vacation!

About Island of Hawaii

Hawaii's name sake island, also the largest of the chain, has some of the most unique sights for visitors. The island is made up of five separate volcanoes, of which three are active and one has been continually erupting since the late 1980s. The red hot lava that pours from the Kilauea volcano is a fascinating natural occurrence and a rarity to witness. As a result of the lava that is constantly being added to the area, the beaches on the Big Island are a Hawaiian dream! Visit the pure white ribbons of coastal Kailua-Kona, the emerald sands of the Puna region, or the black beaches of Punalu'u, each a drop of paradise.

The Big Island is more than just sandy perfection. For nature enthusiasts and adventure seekers, Hawaii offers an unparalleled mixture of elements. There is endless opportunity to explore, from the deep thickets of the rainforest to the blustery summit of the volcano peaks. The Big Island also houses the second largest waterfall in the world: Akaka Falls, a graceful giant that is simply spectacular.

Here are a few additional suggestions for your trip:

  • Go scuba diving: The reef ecosystems around the big island are fantastic places to encounter colorful fish, sea turtles, and a bewildering variety of marine life.
  • Take a surfing lesson: The glassy waves of Hawaii make this one of the most beautiful surfing destinations in the world. There are plenty of surf schools here with patient, knowledgeable instructors who can help you get started.
  • Visit Volcanoes National Park: Hike with an experienced guide and explore lava tube trails through a tropical jungle paradise of gigantic ferns and tropical flowers.
  • Stroll historic Kailua Village: Go shopping, experience the nightlife and see some of the Big Island's important historic sites in this charming seaside village.
  • Take a whale watching tour: The Big Island is a great place to charter a boat trip and have close encounters with grey whales or humpbacks depending on the season.

-Play a round of golf: Big Island Hawaii golf courses are truly champion caliber. Professional golfers come from around the world to tee off on these emerald green fairways.

For unforgettable family reunions, honeymoons, and weddings, Big Island Hawaii makes an ideal tropical destination. Make the most of your vacation in paradise by staying in your own private vacation rental. Find a trendy condo in the heart of downtown Hilo, close to the shopping and nightlife, or stay in a luxury rental home with beautiful views of the ocean. While you're planning your getaway to Big Island Hawaii, consider scheduling some time on the other beautiful islands in the chain like Oahu and Maui.
