Dunbar Beachfront Cottages-Pauwalu Cottage -Kainalu, Molokai

Kaunakakai house

2 bedrooms / 1 bathroom / sleeps 4

“Absolute Serenity” I recently spent time at the Pauwalu Beachfront Cottage with my husband and two smaller children. What an amazing spot. The east end of Molokai is like going back in time. Time stands still when you are at this cottage. It has the most amazing views and your very own private beach/fishpond. The kids spent oodles of time swimming, snorkeling, fishing, shell hunting, and catching sand crabs. The views and the sound of the ocean were amazingly soothing and rejuvenating. We can't wait to come back!

KE NANI KAI #115 -Ocean View-Abundantly Furnished

Maunaloa apartment

1 bedroom / 1 bathroom / sleeps 2

“Molokai KE Nani KaI #115 -Ocean View-Abundantly Furnished” This gracious home was absolutely comfortable and cozy. Extremely well stocked with everything we needed. First day we loaded up the trunk with all the accessories and used the toys, chairs, coolers as our days unfolded. Perfect!!! My husband kept his first comments to himself as we flew from Oahu to the island. He was afraid it was too desolate for me. He really feared his birthday trip which he designed would prove to be way too laid back for me. Wrong. I loved it. We explored every possible road our rental car was allowed on and some it was not. Ooops. We found the people extremely kind and admired and respected their kindred spirits. I gushed to all my friends how wonderful it was. Many would never go that island even after my experience, it is not for everyone. Mule trip was excellent, eerily peeked back in time and admired the people who maintain their privacy. Most beautiful view ever. Husband loved the ride down, I had my eyes closed on many of the hairpin turns, my guide laughed and laughed. The captain of the snorkel boat was delightful, best day of snorkeling ever; so relaxing compared to Maui and Kauai. Not a bad meal on the island, huge portions. We shopped at fruit stands, delicious. Went to church, felt welcomed. Sunsets watching the surfers, highlight of our days. The turkeys, frogs, peacock, spiders, gorgeous song birds always entertaining. We will return to the island soon!

Molokai Shores #308 - Best of oceanfront Hawaii

Kaunakakai apartment

2 bedrooms / 1 bathroom / sleeps 4

“Fantastic stay at unit #308!” I found unit 308 by visiting the website, www.molokai-hi.com. There are lots of pictures on the website but they don't do it justice! Walking into unit 308 was like walking into a fantasy of Hawaii!I I have been visiting the Islands, in particular Molokai for the past 38 years and I have never stayed in a nicer condo than unit 308 at Molokai Shores. The owner Margaret, is a local artist and it shows! Not all units at Molokai Shores are created equal but trust me, unit 308 is stunning. This unit is a townhouse so there is 1 bedroom on the lower floor and a loft with a bed as well. It has a full kitchen with dishwasher, microwave, toaster, rice cooker, blender..you name it, Margaret has it. There is cable TV in both the living room and bedroom and Internet access. The unit has ceiling fans in both the bedroom and loft and stayed very cool even in the heat of the day. It also has a large ocean facing lanai - perfect for whale watching or enjoying the beautiful sunsets.I saw other units while visiting Molokai Shores and I couldn't believe they were charging the same price as Margaret! They were very basic, boring and depressing..It was very easy to book from the website and checking in was a breeze. Molokai Shores is well situated just outside the main town of Kaunakakai. Molokai is a relaxing, fun place to visit, not at all commercial like Waikiki, so when you come make sure you book unit 308!

About Molokai

Molokai, the 5th largest island in the archipelago of Hawaii, remains one of the most pristine, untouched islands of the group. Molokai is also one of the friendliest islands, perhaps because it has staved off the shopping malls and duplex towers that come with increased tourism. It is here you will find uncrowded white sand beaches, lush rainforests and charming villages where the locals carry on their rich ancestral traditions.

Kalaupapa, the infamous leprosy colony of Father Damien, is accessible by a winding, cliff-top donkey ride and is a bizarre experience. Nearby, the Halawa Valley, accessible only with a native guide, is a magnificent spectacle of natural erosion. The waterfalls here, commonly held to be sacred, define perfection. Molokai is an ideal place to visit if you want to ditch the crowds and take in the majesties of nature.

Here are some activities you may want to include in your plans:

  • Play on the beach: Papohaku beach is one of the most popular and pristine beaches on the island. Find a place to relax in the soft sugary sand, or go swimming or snorkeling in the blue waves.
  • Visit the Kamakou Preserve: This is a wonderfully preserved rainforest ecosystem and a great place to see fragile species of native plants and wildlife.
  • Visit a macadamia nut farm: Take a factory tour at Purdy's All Natural macadamia nut farm. Learn more about this delicious snack and go behind the scenes of a friendly family business.
  • Visit the Molokai Museum and Cultural Center: Learn more about Hawaiian history, religion and culture at this educational center.
  • Go scuba diving: The reefs around Molokai are home to spectacular species of colorful fish, sea turtles, and a variety of marine life.
  • Take a Molokai mule ride: Mules are the best way to navigate the trails that wind down an 1800 foot cliff to the Kalaupapa Peninsula.

The pristine, rain forested mountains form the perfect backdrop for Molokai weddings and Molokai camping adventures. While you're here, leave your beach rental behind during the day and go exploring. Take full advantage of the Molokai ranch, the surf schools and the other offerings on this breathtaking and sparsely populated island. At night, return to your beach condo or luxury vacation rental and watch the sunset while enjoying a relaxing evening with your family and friends. Don't leave Hawaii without a visit to some of the other islands including Oahu and Maui.

Thanks for a great time your place is beautiful. I loved being on the ground floor, I would sit and enjoy my coffee with the lovely ocean breeze on my lanai. Molokai Shores #308 - Best of oceanfront Hawaii
just great!

It is just a wonderful place! Very comfortable, cozy, beautiful views from the balcony. You want to cook something you’ll find all the utensils. You want to read a book, just look at the bookshelf. You want to watch tv, it’s just in front of you. You want to chill out with a glass of wine… well, you’ll have to buy your own wine. People staying at the Molokai Shores complex are very friendly and open. The spirit of Aloha is everywhere around you. Margaret is the nicest person ever! She gave me a lot of good advice and even let me use her bike. This review is long overdue but I can assure you that even after all this time I still think of Margaret’s place with a smile on my face. I would recommend it to everybody.see more

Extraordinary location

A morning Hawaiian coffee on a lovely lanai with a vista of green grass, flowering shrubs and blue ocean with an occasional whale spotting interest you? What a beautiful setting! The second floor corner condo is quiet, spacious and beautifully appointed. Everything we needed was available with a great kitchen and quantities of all dishes and accessories. The hot water in the sophisticated showers never ran out. We could enjoy the views there, meander down to the ocean front, walk the trails or drive to nearby beaches to snorkel. The pool was well maintained and never busy with a friendly environment. Nightlife is somewhere else but, if fresh sea air and outdoor life attracts you, this opportunity to spend time on Molokai is priceless. Krista and Rick solved an cable tv issue for us immediately and were most helpful.see more

Memorable Molokai

My wife and I stayed here for the month of November, 2014. We had a marvelous time. The condo is exactly as advertised. Fully and beautifully equipped, really comfy bed, and a smart TV with a gazillion channels. And Molokai; well, it’s the friendly isle, with a population of about 8,000 and no traffic lights. Where else can you take a most-memorable mule ride down sea cliffs to a National Historic Site? If you want the mob scene and a more hectic pace, there’s always Maui. If you want peace and relaxation, then this is the place. Rose provides the most thorough package of info imaginable: what to do, where to go, who to call--it was fabulous.see more
