“It was such a relaxing getaway” What a piece (peace) of heaven! While sitting on the balcony I was hypnotized by watching and listening to the nearby oceanwaves. It was wonderful being able to walk so easily and quickly to either the beach or the swimming pool. The flowers in bloom, birds singing and the beautiful sunsets made me realize that I was in paradise. Thank you, Don and Jackie for allowing me to stay in your lovely condo (unit 2254) Cynthia

Dunbar Beachfront Cottages-Pauwalu Cottage -Kainalu, Molokai

Kaunakakai house

2 bedrooms / 1 bathroom / sleeps 4

“Absolute Serenity” I recently spent time at the Pauwalu Beachfront Cottage with my husband and two smaller children. What an amazing spot. The east end of Molokai is like going back in time. Time stands still when you are at this cottage. It has the most amazing views and your very own private beach/fishpond. The kids spent oodles of time swimming, snorkeling, fishing, shell hunting, and catching sand crabs. The views and the sound of the ocean were amazingly soothing and rejuvenating. We can't wait to come back!

“Serenity and sea views” This cottage has a panoramic 180 view of the ocean + sunset. Its far enough from the swimming pool to be private and code enough to be 3 minutes away. The accommodation was comfortable and clean. Wifi, power shower, dishwasher and everything your used at home. We would go back for sure. Would be great if they converted the loft into another room + supplied a trolley to carry stuff from the parking lot( 30 meters away). Don’t book a car with Alamo BTW- use Molokai car rentals 1/4 of the price. Pete

“delightful” We fell in love with Molokai. The unit was clean, comfortable and suited us fine. For one week we only had a small suitcase each, but for a longer stay it would have been difficult to know where to put the luggage. Also, it would have been nice to have somewhere to unpack our clothes. (The wardrobe was fully occupied by the spare bedding.) The distance from our car was a bit of a hassle when we arrived with our luggage and bags full of groceries. One item we would have like in the kitchen was a kettle (we are tea drinkers). We ate out on the lanai for every meal, which was lovely, but I did also have a problem with mosquito bites at night.

About Molokai

Molokai, the 5th largest island in the archipelago of Hawaii, remains one of the most pristine, untouched islands of the group. Molokai is also one of the friendliest islands, perhaps because it has staved off the shopping malls and duplex towers that come with increased tourism. It is here you will find uncrowded white sand beaches, lush rainforests and charming villages where the locals carry on their rich ancestral traditions.

Kalaupapa, the infamous leprosy colony of Father Damien, is accessible by a winding, cliff-top donkey ride and is a bizarre experience. Nearby, the Halawa Valley, accessible only with a native guide, is a magnificent spectacle of natural erosion. The waterfalls here, commonly held to be sacred, define perfection. Molokai is an ideal place to visit if you want to ditch the crowds and take in the majesties of nature.

Here are some activities you may want to include in your plans:

  • Play on the beach: Papohaku beach is one of the most popular and pristine beaches on the island. Find a place to relax in the soft sugary sand, or go swimming or snorkeling in the blue waves.
  • Visit the Kamakou Preserve: This is a wonderfully preserved rainforest ecosystem and a great place to see fragile species of native plants and wildlife.
  • Visit a macadamia nut farm: Take a factory tour at Purdy's All Natural macadamia nut farm. Learn more about this delicious snack and go behind the scenes of a friendly family business.
  • Visit the Molokai Museum and Cultural Center: Learn more about Hawaiian history, religion and culture at this educational center.
  • Go scuba diving: The reefs around Molokai are home to spectacular species of colorful fish, sea turtles, and a variety of marine life.
  • Take a Molokai mule ride: Mules are the best way to navigate the trails that wind down an 1800 foot cliff to the Kalaupapa Peninsula.

The pristine, rain forested mountains form the perfect backdrop for Molokai weddings and Molokai camping adventures. While you're here, leave your beach rental behind during the day and go exploring. Take full advantage of the Molokai ranch, the surf schools and the other offerings on this breathtaking and sparsely populated island. At night, return to your beach condo or luxury vacation rental and watch the sunset while enjoying a relaxing evening with your family and friends. Don't leave Hawaii without a visit to some of the other islands including Oahu and Maui.

Extraordinary location

A morning Hawaiian coffee on a lovely lanai with a vista of green grass, flowering shrubs and blue ocean with an occasional whale spotting interest you? What a beautiful setting! The second floor corner condo is quiet, spacious and beautifully appointed. Everything we needed was available with a great kitchen and quantities of all dishes and accessories. The hot water in the sophisticated showers never ran out. We could enjoy the views there, meander down to the ocean front, walk the trails or drive to nearby beaches to snorkel. The pool was well maintained and never busy with a friendly environment. Nightlife is somewhere else but, if fresh sea air and outdoor life attracts you, this opportunity to spend time on Molokai is priceless. Krista and Rick solved an cable tv issue for us immediately and were most helpful.see more

Moloka'i IS mo bettah!!

When visiting Moloka'i you will often see "Moloka'i Mo Bettah" - and it's true. THIS is the true Hawaii we all dream of. Not too many people and the locals truly have the Aloha spirit. No traffic jams because there isn't much traffic - there aren't even any traffic signals! It's easy to pick out the visitors - they are the ones who don't return your smile and are in a hurry. The max speed limit is 45 mph. This is where you slow down, relax and have a wonderful time. The condo we stayed in was the BEST EVER!!! You may find one with million dollar furniture and advanced technology but you won't find one with a better view! The furnishings are clean and comfy - the technology is as good as the average home on the mainland (maybe better) and the place was clean and homey. I've never gone on vacation and truly wished to stay there - until now. We love this so much we actually started looking to buy. The homeowners are absolutely terrific. Though we never met, I feel we have new friends. Always helpful and ready to give good information. It just simply does NOT get better than this!see more
