“Absolute Serenity” I recently spent time at the Pauwalu Beachfront Cottage with my husband and two smaller children. What an amazing spot. The east end of Molokai is like going back in time. Time stands still when you are at this cottage. It has the most amazing views and your very own private beach/fishpond. The kids spent oodles of time swimming, snorkeling, fishing, shell hunting, and catching sand crabs. The views and the sound of the ocean were amazingly soothing and rejuvenating. We can't wait to come back!

Molokai Shores #308 - Best of oceanfront Hawaii

Kaunakakai apartment

2 bedrooms / 1 bathroom / sleeps 4

“Fantastic stay at unit #308!” I found unit 308 by visiting the website, www.molokai-hi.com. There are lots of pictures on the website but they don't do it justice! Walking into unit 308 was like walking into a fantasy of Hawaii!I I have been visiting the Islands, in particular Molokai for the past 38 years and I have never stayed in a nicer condo than unit 308 at Molokai Shores. The owner Margaret, is a local artist and it shows! Not all units at Molokai Shores are created equal but trust me, unit 308 is stunning. This unit is a townhouse so there is 1 bedroom on the lower floor and a loft with a bed as well. It has a full kitchen with dishwasher, microwave, toaster, rice cooker, blender..you name it, Margaret has it. There is cable TV in both the living room and bedroom and Internet access. The unit has ceiling fans in both the bedroom and loft and stayed very cool even in the heat of the day. It also has a large ocean facing lanai - perfect for whale watching or enjoying the beautiful sunsets.I saw other units while visiting Molokai Shores and I couldn't believe they were charging the same price as Margaret! They were very basic, boring and depressing..It was very easy to book from the website and checking in was a breeze. Molokai Shores is well situated just outside the main town of Kaunakakai. Molokai is a relaxing, fun place to visit, not at all commercial like Waikiki, so when you come make sure you book unit 308!

About Kaunakakai

With rows of historical homes, the longest pier in the state, and friendly locals, the charming town of Kaunakakai has everything you need for a relaxing Hawaiian getaway. Head down the main street in the town's business district, Ala Malama Avenue, for an amazing variety of shops and boutiques.

While you're in town, be sure to also make time for some of these must-see sites:

  • Ala Malama Avenue: Be sure to stop at Kanemitsu's Bakery for their world-famous bread that the locals go crazy over.
  • Church Row: Visit the site of seven small, missionary-style churches that have been serving the community since the 19th century.
  • Kapuaiwa Coconut Grove: Take a free guided tour of the area before resting underneath one of the vast palm trees in this coconut grove.
  • Go to the Beach: Of course, no visit to Kaunakakai would be complete without soaking up the rays on one of the many white sand beaches in town.

In addition to all the sights that Kaunakakai has to offer, there are also a number of major events and festivals held throughout the year both in and around town. Watch traditional hula performances from local dancers during the Hula Piko Hula Festival in May, celebrate Hawaii's proud heritage during the Aloha Festivals in October, or watch movies from some of the top filmmakers on the island during the Hawaii International Film Festival in November.

Whether you're looking for a condo with beach views from your bedroom window, or a villa located near all the restaurants and shopping in town, there's a vacation rental available in Kaunakakai that's right for you.

Even though there's plenty to do just in Kaunakakai, the island of Molokai is small enough that you can reach anywhere on the island within two hours by car. If you have some extra time to explore, visit the green scenery of Halawa Bay Beach Park or the rural beach town of Mauna Loa.

Stepping back in time on Hawaii - comfortably and in style

After staying in modern condos on various Hawaiian Islands it was just so refreshing to experience Molokai's real Hawaii. And our Pu'unana cottage was just the right place to be. We had our own little beach and I just loved looking out to sea seeing this ancient Hawaiian fishtrap from our deck. … see more

True Paradise!

From the moment you step into the condo, you are transported into a Hawaiian Paradise! The pictures truly don't do it justice. Margaret's condo is decorated in such a beautiful & relaxing way that you will never want to leave. The other units in the complex are not decorated as beautifully as Margaret's, which, in my opinion, adds to the experience of your stay there. The view of the sunrise every morning & oceanview from the lanai is breathtaking. Margaret, a local artist, is a wonderful hostess & her condo is completely furnished with everything you'd ever need: cookware, dishes, cable tv, internet, including books with local info, descriptions & maps. In February, my friends & I took a Girls' Trip and stayed at Margaret's for the first time. We unanimously decided that one week wasn't long enough. Every day, we explored the beautiful island from one end to the other & were sad when we had to leave. Molokai Shores is situated just outside the main town of Kaunakakai, centrally located mid-ways of the island, which made exploring the island very easy. Molokai is a relaxing, non-touristy place to visit, not at all commercial like the other islands. The island has local restaurants & food, prepared by locals, so don't visit if you want Starbucks, McDonald's or any other chains or brand names. They're not here! Which is perfect for me! I intend to return to Molokai again in april with my husband to share it with him!see more
