    Additional Location Information

Nevada City is a perfectly preserved Victorian town on the Register of Historic Places. It dates back to the California Gold Rush era, and was the northern capital of the gold mining region along Highway 49. There are many historic buildings in town, including the oldest operating theater in the West, and the original assay office for the gold mining industry of the 1800's. The town is filled with beautiful old Victorian buildings, both homes and businesses. Spring, summer and fall are gorgeous for outdoor activities. The fall foliage is magnificent, and winter brings its own charms. Nevada City's famous Victorian Christmas, celebrated Wednesday ecenings and Sunday afternoons throughout the month of December, draws visitors from all over. And the occasional snowfall blankets the town and countryside in white. Skiing is only an hour or so away, up Interstate 80 towards Truckee. If you want a more temperate climate to stay in and not have to go too far to ski, Nevada City is the perfect spot.

Nevada City, and it's close neighbor, Grass Valley, another vibrant historic town, host a wide variety of cultural activities all year long. There are music and art festivals, concerts of all kinds, live theatrical performances, fairs, the Nevada City Fourth of July Parade, and the famous Nevada City Bike Race held in downtown Nevada City each year on Father's Day. The North Columbia Story Telling Festival, also held every year, has gained wide notoriety and draws folks from all over to hear some of the country's best storytellers. North Columbia, just a short drive from Nevada City, is a former gold rush town, now just a crossroads with the old two room schoolhouse converted to a community center as the venue for the festival. In addition, there are three championship golf courses in Grass Valley and Auburn, within a half hour's drive.

      Charming cottage in perfect location

Left on 04/01/2013 for a stay in January 2013

I rented the cottage for a weekend in January, and could not have been more pleased! The location is fantastic, and the house is really lovely. There were just two of us, but you could easily sleep 4-6. Marney has done a lovely job with decorating and making sure that everything, and I mean everything, you could possibly need is accounted for - from the wine glasses to the washer and dryer. The central location was great as well, we didn't have to move our cars for the entire weekend. I'm also picky when it comes to cleanliness of rental properties, and the house was immaculate. And, Marney was lovely to work with. We've already reserved the cottage again for another weekend getaway.

Amazing...and an unexpected experience that I will never forget

Left on 02/18/2013 for a stay in December 2012

We rented this cottage for the week between Christmas & New Year...Family tradition was a week at Dillon Beach annually but it had been a really tramatic year in our family & I decided we needed something unfamiliar & hoped that would take my mind off of my current trama...Wow!! We arrived and immediately were amazed that the online description & photos seemed so minimal compared to seeing this beauty in person...She was gorgeous!! We parked & carried our luggage in. I must have walked around for 2 hours just looking at every beautiful heart warming detail & as I poked around and took in the atmosphere, I was blown away by the attn to detail the home owner, Marney put into this home. You truly felt like you were home, the decor, the amenities, the special warm touches, the scent of the home, etc...I had no idea why I landed in this cottage besides the fact that I literally went on line and pointed, clicked and sought out the opposite of where I usually vacation. Marney knew we were bringing my 5 year old son and had his room all cozy and child friendly, warm blankets and fluffy pillows, strategic night light, etc...The restrooms all had a different scent of soap and while thats suck a girl thing, we women love that!! She had matches for the fireplace, table clothes for the dining room, but the kitchen just blew me away and thats always my fave room in the house. She had the lil touches that make a woman want to spend time in the kitchen. Can opener, sugar for coffee, gum in the kitchen drawer & get this...laundry soap in laundry room...The detail from the woodworking, antiques, & door knobs were just amazing...If u ever have the chance to stay here, you have to...She will become your friend & you wont want to leave, & so will Marney...What a wonderful good & genuine person. Funny thing is, we loved the cottage & Nevada City so much, we relocated there a month after our visit to raise our son. I drive by the cottage weekly when out and wave as we pass.

      Beyond Expectations

Left on 02/04/2013 for a stay in January 2013

What a great stay we had at the Two Room Inn in Gold Country's gem of a town, Nevada City, with its spectrum of restaurants, lots of galleries, a wide array of shops and the Sierra's history and beauty.

From the street, the Inn is very unusual and very attractive in appearance with its antique stained glass panels, ornamental eaves and solid redwood exterior. The exterior may be upstaged by the interior, not only is it tastefully decorated and appointed, it is warm and inviting with a feel of the Gold Country from the past. There is more stained glass incorporated in nearly every window and door, some of which are dated from England in the 1880's. The original structure was a miner's cabin which was expanded into a spacious 1300 square foot house.

The interior is beautiful, rich toned old redwood ceilings and walls, while the floors are elm. The cobblestone accents found in the house are from the streets of old San Francisco. The furnishings are very comfortable, complete. From the spacious main room, there is a view right down the middle of Broad Street, the main street in historic and beautifully maintained/restored Nevada City. The owner, Marney, has thoughtfully outfitted the house with every necessary convenience and gadget we needed and much more.

This place is an amazing value as it is priced comparably to some of the B&B;'s in town, but you get a whole beautiful house which can sleep up to six people--- an ideal deal!

Before you book this place, check out the schedule of events in Nevada City and adjacent Grass Valley as there is some happening nearly twice a month between them such as parades, craft fairs, concerts, various holiday celebrations etc., or in other words, small town america with a historic flair. There is natural beauty found in town(Deer Creek) and extending for miles in every direction with hiking trails, biking and great swimming at multiple Yuba river highway/road crossings. I found several championship golf courses nearby.

Perfect couples place for lovely Nevada City weekend frolicking.

Left on 02/01/2013 for a stay in December 2012

Absolutely exquisite and perfectly appointed vacation spot for an ideally located visit to one of the great weekend getaway towns in Gold Country. We have known this area since 1977 and have stayed in many different hotels, motels, cottages, B&Bs;, tents, sleeping bags, cabins, et. al. None remotely equal the class, convenience, comfort and comparative cost of this perfectly perserved Victorian treasure. Thanks be to the owners & managers for making it available to us. I just hope it is available the next time we have the opportunity to once again visit paradise. Btw, in my mind this is absolutely perfect for a loving couple but it is plenty big enough, and well equipped, for a second couple to join in the party, or for a youngster to also be comfortable. Main thing is to enjoy this wonderful little town under perfect circumstances.
