We offer a spacious, and unique home on the beach with three separate en suite guest bedrooms. Two bedrooms have a king size bed, the third one has two twin beds with canopy. They all are tucked away for privacy. Each has its own bathroom and deck or patio and enjoys a full view of the Caribbean. Situated on over 80 feet (25 meters) of quiet beachfront with hammocks swinging from the palapa. It is the ideal location to relax, snorkel, or explore the Riviera Maya.
Located an hour and a half south of Cancun, minutes from Tulum, Tankah Bay is a small paradise. Our private access beach road has 24-hour security. Quiet and very safe while amenities are easily accessible on foot or in a ten-minute car ride.
We designed a house where everyone can enjoy the spacious common areas and yet retire to their room for complete privacy. Each bedroom has ample closet space, a safe and a high quality Hunter fan. All bedrooms have ceiling fans and optimize the ocean breezes with maximum ventilation.
As you enter the house you are stunned by the view of the Caribbean and the expansive ground floor.
You will take in the dramatic, circular living room with custom designed palapa (thatched) roof. A series of French doors open to the beach, yet the living room retains privacy. To the left is the light-filled dining room, with large French doors, which extends outside to a furnished patio.
Conveniently, the well-equipped kitchen is directly adjacent to the living room, making entertaining a delight. It features black granite counter tops, All-Clad cookware and all major appliances. A central island is the perfect place for a quick snack or to gather cooks and guests. From the kitchen you may look out to the water or turn around and face the luxurious garden.
On the south side is the beach level suite, with a king size bed, private bathroom and a deep blue tiled shower. A sliding door connects this shower to a protected outside shower. The room's French doors open to a patio with a hanging hammock and lounge chairs.
As you wind up the circular stairway you reach the wide-open second floor landing with an interior balcony overlooking the living room. On each side is a bedroom. The suite has a king size bed, a private furnished shaded deck, a private bathroom with two sinks and a white and green tiled garden shower with local plants.
The other bedroom has two canopied twin size beds, a private furnished shaded deck, and a turquoise tiled bathroom. Each bedroom has ample closet space, a safe and a high quality Hunter fan.
The second floor stairway takes you to the roof where you can enjoy views of Tankah Bay, the jungle, or you can watch the ospreys and pelicans dive. You may also enjoy the sunset with a Margarita in hand or make it your private sunbathing area.
On the garden side of the house is a palapa covered outside kitchen with a wood table, gas barbecue, sink and counter space. You will have easy access from the kitchen door. It is an ideal place to cook any time of day.
Villa Mariposa is tastefully decorated with local artifacts, well maintained, and in excellent condition. All the woodwork (furniture, windows, doors, closets etc.) in the house is handcrafted of mahogany, giving the house a warm comfortable yet sophisticated atmosphere. Throughout the house the floor is “conchuela”, a 42 million years old fossil stone from the Yucatan. We carefully designed the house to provide views, natural ventilation, privacy and large living areas. From any room – even your shower! - You can enjoy the changing shades of the Caribbean.
From the white sand beach just footsteps away you may swim, snorkel, or take the kayaks on the bay. You will love sunbathing in hammocks and lounge chairs, or enjoy the ocean view sitting under the shady beach palapa.
Our caretakers, Luis and Nery, live on site in a separate home on the property. They provide five day a week maid and gardening service. They can prepare delicious Mexican meals for an additional fee.
The villa is located between Akumal and Tulum, offering the convenience of shops and entertainment while staying on a quiet secluded and safe beach. We are steps away from several restaurants and swimming at the magical Manatee Cenote (swimming hole).
We are only a 10-minute drive to restaurants, shops, Tulum ruins, and other gorgeous beaches (Sian Kaan). Coba ruins are a 45 minute drive, Valladolid, a small colonial town, is a wonderful day trip and famous Chichen Itza is a 3 hour excursion. The region is renowned for its fly-fishing opportunities. We have spotted bonefish in our own bay!

Response from the owner Thank you for your kind review! We have fans in every room and some summer weeks can be hot at night. The beach has changed dramatically in the last months. Fortunately, this the nature of beachfront and we hope the sand will come back very soon. There are a few amazing snorkeling spots in our Bay, accessible from the shore or with the kayaks.
