Getting around

Once in the area, the roads around Appleby for miles and miles are a cyclists' dream as they are undulating (some challenging too), but most are quiet roads with low traffic usage which makes for a safe and more enjoyable ride. Village pubs, cafes and local ice-cream specialists are en route for ideal stop-off points for a well-earned rest. Safe storage for bikes is available on request. If mountain walking is more your thing, the Pennines offers great walking, from the door. Dufton Pike and Murton Pike just a short walk away, as well as High Cup Nick. Routes in the Yorkshire Dales are a short drive away, with the Nine Standards closeby, as of course are the mountains and views of the Lake District, with Blencathra being the nearest.

Interaction with guest

The barn is lovingly cared for and maintained and it is expected that guests will treat the property and contents with respect and leave it clean and tidy. Usually, I will be on hand to welcome you, to run through the basics and to help with the booking of local restaurants if required or to offer advice on local walks or cycle routes in the area. Older children are welcome (7 and over). The barn's unusual layout does not lend itself to toddlers and youngsters. Dog owners will need to bring their dog's own bedding as this is not provided. Also your pet is not allowed on the beds, sofas or other soft furnishings and should not be left at the property unattended.
