We loved our star at the Barrero Beach apartment. The apartment had everything we needed, and the view was amazing. We spent many happy hours on the patio admiring the caribbean ocean view. Joe was a gracious host and spent a lot of time answering our travel-related questions. We would recommend this rental. Our favorite restaurant was Lucky 13 for ribs and tacos.

We had a great time in Rincon at Joe's place. We had everything we needed with some of the highlights being beach chairs, Tupperware for packing lunches on day trips, access to a washer and dryer and a grill to cook the fresh fish bought at the market just down the hill. Joe was easily accessible by phone and checked in on us each day to see if we needed directions or recommendations. One thing that needed updated was the bath towels- they were thin and worn. Also, getting up the hill to the house can be tricky and a little scary until you get used to it. However, once you're up there and see the view of the ocean from the deck, all is forgiven and worthwhile. We would definitely return to Barrero Beach apt. and found the laid back atmosphere of Rincon a breath of fresh air compared to busy San Juan.

Only a short walk to the local beach, in addition to being only 10 minutes away from the best surf breaks in the world--Domes and Steps are just two examples-- this place is an excellent place to stay if you have kids, enjoy the surf culture, like hanging out on uncrowded beaches, or just want to absorb the local culture. Joe and his wife are excellent sources of information regarding the island, and they also offer valuable travel tips. It is like staying with friends. I always feel more like family than a renter. This was our second time to stay there and hopefully we will be able to return in the near future

We were looking for an economical place to stay for 8 nights in January and Barrero Beach apartment was the perfect spot for us! Joe was so nice and great and provided us with some great restaurant recommendations and helped us with some scuba diving recommendations as well. The room was pretty basic, and it had everything we needed. The beds were firm but comfortable and the kitchen had all of the basics needed for cooking. The grill outside worked great and beach chairs were provided. We enjoyed many afternoons on the hammock outside and enjoyed some mango smoothies with mangoes provided by Joe from the tree in the yard. The view of the Caribbean is wonderful and we enjoyed many dinners at the balcony table. We highly recommend Barrero Beach apartment for anyone looking for a reasonably priced place to stay.

We had a great experience with our stay at Barrero Beach apartment! Located just off the beaten path, you are only a few minute drive into downtown Rincon and perfectly far enough to enjoy a peaceful and relaxing stay. Joe was very accommodating and the place was everything we needed. The sunset view is the best in the west and the beaches are beautiful.

We had a wonderful time in Rincon. Joe was very hospitable and, while the apartment isn't anything fancy, it is perfect for a nice stay in the area. It is close to everything and the view from the terrace/balcony is stunning. We had a great time at various local beaches, restaurants, and the location was perfect for day trips. It is also peaceful enough for people who need a lot of rest. Thanks, Joe!

We enjoyed our stay very much! Thanks joe for everything! We hope to return soon. Nice location right near the beach. Definitely rent a car thou if you want to check out any thing else on the island. We flew into aguadilla which was not far at all. Joe met us in the morning when we arrived and helped us reach the apt. All amenities were there. Not sure why previous travelers had problems with hot water we never had a problem. Only thing I would suggest is bug spray the Mosquitos are vicious. Also definitely try the English Rose. Breakfast and the view was unbelievable!

My wife, two grown daughters, and our son and his wife rented the upstairs and downstairs, when really the downstairs 3 BR would have been enough. Everything was very clean and airy with ceiling fans and aC in the Br's. Joe's hospitality and insight into the area was super. I asked him if we could find any fresh mangoes in the area and he said sure; we went to the vacant lot next door and there were fresh ripe mangoes that had just dropped to the ground... delicious! He helped us buy blacktail tuna and yellowtail snapper for two evening grills. Snorkeling, sightseeing, eating lobster mofongo and watching 5' Tarpon frolic for breadcrumbs at a cafe on the water in Joyuda was just some things to do. Because of the laid-back ambience and tropical setting (coconut trees in backyard) everyone was mostly content to kickback and let the time go by. A wonderful place and vacation in... Paradise!

My husband and I had a wonderful time in Rincon at the Barrero Beach rental. Joe and his wife Pilar were very hospitable and made sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. The location of the rental was perfect - a beautiful beach just down the driveway and spectacular views from the porch next to the mango tree. Joe and his friendly neighbors gave us great recommendations for places in town to eat and we enjoyed the dining experience in Rincon tremendously. We could not have had a better trip for the value. We can't wait to return to Barrero Beach soon!

My wife, the baby (8 months) and I had a quiet and enjoyable stay here. The location was perfect for us, a little off the beaten track, no tourists directly in sight, though 5-10minutes with the car from Rincon with its bars and restaurants.
Joe, the owner, is super friendly; got me a little bed for the kid, gave us some tips for local sightseeing and eating out, and showed me how to peel the fish I bought from his neighbor, which I thereafter grilled on our balcony with amazing view. After the fish you can digest with some puertorican rum and listen to the sea. This was just what we wanted and it was good to have it :-)
The place is actually worth an excellent rating just for its balcony with view and its hammock. So why "very good" and not "excellent", just because the place needs a little refresher (cutlery and cooking ware need a little update if you plan cooking every night).
I would recommend this place to friends and family and actually, I may myself come back :-) -

Great view and location. It is perfect for two people. Joe and Pillar were terrific hosts. They were a wealth of knowledge about places to see around Rincon and Puerto Rico. We spent alot of time on the patio, walking and swimming at the beach, which was a very short walk down the hill. We would definitely stay again if we came by ourselves.

The location is within 10 minutes of anything you would want to do in Rincon. We really enjoyed the fresh caught lobsters from macho(Joes neighbor and best fisherman in Rincon, his mom even lent us a big pot to boil them.
I would definitely Reccomend Barrero beach apt -

This apartment is such a good deal - we were apprehensive at first, as we were sure it wouldn't be that close to the beach or not in good shape for this price, but we were wrong. Just a few minutes walk to a the beach (miles of sandy beach!) Everything we needed was there. There were ample restaurants and places to shop as well. Our hosts were very amenable - thanks Joe and Pilar!

Left on 08/04/2011 for a stay in July 2011
We just returned from our Puerto Rican vacation, and when reflecting back on the different places we've stayed, we all agreed we enjoyed our stay with Joe the best. The location on the beach was exactly what we were looking for - and only steps from the house! It was big enough for long strolls, and until we reached the condos, the beach was essentially empty and all to ourselves.
Joe was a great host, meeting us at the local Burger King to bring us to the house. Otherwise, I'm sure we never would have found it. Even with our GPS location saved, we still had trouble finding the house after the first couple of trips out. Joe's attention and local recommendations for sights were fantastic (go see the falls at San Sebastian).
We enjoyed the three bedrooms with good aC! Although everything was well used, everything we needed worked fine. Beds were comfortable, and the TV with cable was good for reviewing pictures we took during the day and to watch a few familiar programs. The blender was in constant use for Pina Coladas! The only things we could see that could have improved our stay would be a better hot water heater, and internet access.
If we return to Puerto Rico for another vacation, we'll certainly be calling Joe again. The location and value can't be beat. -

My husband and I had a blissful 5 days at Joe's place. We had our own very private space, but always knew where to find him if we needed anything. He also stopped by for a chat a couple of times, which was nice.
We were in desperate need of some slow down time, and this was the perfect spot for it. The beach down the hill was gorgeous, and quiet, very local.
Hammock in the front yard strung under a mango tree, mangoes for breakfast...and cookouts for dinner watching the sunsets into the ocean.
Next time we will bring our 3 year old, he would have lived it!
Thanks again Joe!

Joe is a great guy and very helpful with any questions you might have about things to do. The view from the patio is fantastic ! There is a wonderful beach at the bottom of the hill from the apartment and many others just a short drive away. We loved Rincon and cant wait to return. Staying at the Barrero Beach apartment is really a fantastic value. We are looking forward to returning. Enjoy !

Staying at the Barrero's Beach house was absolutely amazing. I went with my two adult boys and my granddaugther and the accomodations were just perfect. The beach house had absolutely everthing you needed; towels, bathroom necessities, blow dryer, washing machine and detergent. The supermarket "Econo" was right on rt 115 just a few minutes away as well as the bakery where we bought freshly baked bread every morning. Joe would come by to check in on us and to make sure everything was alright but he was never invasive. I look forward to renting the beach house again before the end of the year!

We rented the flat from Joe and Pilar through the web. Research showed that Joe had lived in the area for some time, but still you always wonder on the web. Fear not. Arrived after midnight but without thought we were met at 1:00 am by Joe. The next morning he brought coffee, flowers, and information. The view was awesome and the water was great. We now consider Joe and Pilar friends. A great Vacation and we are sure to return to PR and this great place.

This was our 3rd time staying at one of Joe's properties, the second time here. It's perfect, close to the beach, best on the island, quite, the balcony is great, and who can pass fresh mango's off the tree in the morning? We visit family, so it's close for us, Joe and his wife are extremely friendly and hospitable. You won't find a more reasonably priced apartment anywhere. Anasco is a great little town with tons of small places to eat, bars to drink and play pool, and hang with the locals. The weather is always great, around 85 in the winter and up to the 90's in the summer. If yuo ever have the chance, stay!!!

We loved our stay at Barrero Beach apartment. Our private balcony on the hill gave us an amazing view of the beach to watch the pelicans, boats, and sunsets. The one minute walk down the hill, brought us to the beach where we were essentially alone: there are very few tourists over there. The swimming was great, no rocks right in front of our area and very few waves. About 50 yards away, we were snorkeling around beautiful reefs. We rented paddle-boards one day and the tranquil seas of our beach made it easy to balance on these 11' 3" boards.
Every morning we made smoothies with the mangos that fell from the tree in front of the apartment. For lunch, we either ate empanadillas from Monsey's cafe which was 70 yards away or fresh caught fish on our grill. We only went out two of our five nights: because it was so fun to hang all night on the deck, drinking Medallas and rum and relaxing the night away. We never had to use the air conditioning because the breeze was awesome at night. The only thing: screens in the bedroom windows would have made it even more comfortable.
The shower and the kitchen were very spacious and Joe, the owner of the place is a cool dude who made some great recommendations for snorkeling and for a surfing instructor (Nico- he was awesome!)
All, in all, we loved our stay here and we would love to be there right now.
