LockportBeautifully kept cabin grounds, perfect cabin for a big group!
Left on 05/16/2013 for a stay in April 2013
Our stay at Kishauwau on the Vermilion was all we hoped for and more.
The ground were kept up very nicely and so was Grandma's cabin. We were very impressed with the cleanliness and size of the cabin.
The cabin has almost everything you will need while you are there, aside from a short list of things that the owners will make you aware of, prior to your trip.
I would highly recommend this cabin for a big group celebrating or just gathering for a weekend in the country ;)
It was a little pricey, but if you fill the cabin then the cost will be cheaper per person. We only had 8 people, so it was a little more costly than we wanted. -

Left on 04/20/2013 for a stay in April 2013
We have been in other cabins before but this one fit our big group this time. The place is always so clean and comfortable. everyone had fun. the only bad parts were the cold wet weather(causing a mud pit by the fire) and the indoor fireplace did not work at all. Wood is now expensive to sit outside, so we went to town to get alot of it. A few other items in the cottage were inoperable (left you a list). Most disappointing was the fire though since it was so cold. But we would still come back again..so relaxing and pretty

We rented Grandma's Cabin and my sister rented the trading post. They were both very nice. Grandma's was so awesome...2 stoves and a great big fridge! We had board games going video games going and 2 different puzzle's going all at once. So much room! Plenty of pots and pans and cookie sheets and dishes! Love the great big oversized kitchen sink too! We had a ball and will be seeing you again this summer hopefully a couple of times!

Perfect place for our family to gather, relax, and enjoy the outdoors. We loved the roomy cabin because we had family and friends in the area who were able to join us for meals. Appreciated the two bathrooms, large kitchen area, and all the room to spread out with games and puzzles. Our adult childen were happy to have their own bedrooms. The quilts and gas fireplace were so cozy. We'll be back! Who needs Internet or phone access when you have family, nature, and the peace and quiet to enjoy it?

Left on 10/25/2012 for a stay in October 2012
We drove down the lane and I fell instantly in Love with the place. The oaks were mighty, colors magnificent and I was met by a dog named Cookie. He greeted us like old friends. The Service was superb, we asked for camp fire wood and it was delivered immediately! I walked into Grandnma's and said, oh, this is the life! the cabin was nestled into a grove of trees, the stars glowed throughout the evening around our Family campfire... My 8 Grandchildren loved the place, the games and Dvd's from the Office kept them busy and we had Community family meals at the large tables in the Open Cathedral Room. We did our cooking right at the cabin and never left the entire week-end. We relaxed, Talked, played games and we connected closely like a family should do everyday! I Loved the place, Cabins on the Vermillion, did not want to leave and would go every week-end if possible. I went home and dreamed about the place for 3 days! Everyone needs to check this place out! Some cabins you can bring your dogs! Some cabins have whirlpool tubs, Every cabin is original in it's own way. There was a beautiful pond with a waterfall and flowers. What a charming and quaint place that is Serence and peaceful! You must go! The bathrooms had big fluffy towels like a Hilton, and the decorations on the walls was something our of House Beautiful! the owner Theresa works hard to make your stay memorable...

We are a ladies card club that has been taking a weekend trip once a year for over 20 years. We all agreed that this was one of the most relaxing and nicest places we have stayed. The owner was very friendly from the time we called to inquire about the property until the day we checked out. The "Grandma's Cabin" was very clean, comfortable and well equipped. You will not be disappointed with any of it. The location is quiet and very pretty but close to the State Parks. We all agreed that we will come back and visit here again.

Elmhurst, ILThe accommodations were above and beyond our expectations.
Left on 08/28/2012 for a stay in August 2012
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Grandma's Cabin. Fourteen adults were comfortable and satisfied with the features and amenities. The big screen television was a hit for watching the recent Olympics! Our hostess was very pleasant and eager to make our stay trouble-free. We were surprised by the amount of space in the cabin, and we never felt crowded. We were impreesed with the abundance of fresh towels and everyday conveniences like the coffee-maker. Plenty of hot water, too. The cabin is modern and well-equipped for food preparation and serving. We all brought too many utensils and things for cooking. We were disappopinted that the dry weather precluded a bonfire, but we did not miss the wonderful meteor shower. The location is just far enough "out-of-the-way" to be quiet and secluded.

I was very pleasantly surprised at how nice the cabins are. We were there on a very hot weekend, and the cabins were kept very cool (we adjusted them warmer), very clean and are very well laid out--the photos do not do the cabins justice.
There is not a lot to do on the actual grounds except for taking walks, but there are enormous areas for playing outdoor games, and free movie "rentals"/board games for night-time activity. This was perfect for our family reunion.
I had one of the best weekends ever. My 5-year old wants to live there. -

Chillicothe, ILA very, very relaxing weekend
Left on 06/27/2012 for a stay in June 2012
We recently had our annual family reunion at Kishauwau. We reserved a number of cabins; however, we made Grandma's Cabin our main headquarters for all our family meals, grilling, campfires, outdoor bags games & inside the cabin provided plenty of tables to have our family's annual Euchre tournament.
We found Kishauwau to be close to Utica for those feeling the need to shop till they drop, hike the two local State Parks, horseback riding, rafting the Vermillion or simply attend a mass at St. Mary's Church. All our families voted Kishauwau on the Vermillion for next year's family reunion, & we can't wait!!
Lastly, we'd like to thank Therese & Jamie so much for making all our families feel right at home with their hospitality, & accommodating our needs from providing great movie selection in your lobby for the kids...to providing pack & plays cribs for the babies. We'd love to see you back the ice cream bars, etc. for those warm summer days. -

We were so surprised when we walked into "Gramma's" cabin. The photos on the website don't do this place justice. I wasn't expecting it to be modernized. The cabin is stocked with practically everything you need. Just need to bring food, toiletries and all the fun. The area is beautiful and able to see all of the stars at night. The cabins are spaced apart from each other so that you cannot hear each other. Very peaceful. Definately refer for other people to stay. Would definately come back with friends and families.

Left on 05/21/2012 for a stay in May 2012
We enjoyed our stay very much. The only thing that prevented me from rating our stay as excellent is that one of the two showers was not able to be used. The water heater was broken and the shower head kept falling out of the hook when the water was turned on. It was difficult for the 6 of us to use one shower when we all needed a shower prior to dinner. We did mention it at the desk on Saturday, but it appears it just needs to be replaced, and perhaps should have been done prior to renting the cabin. Just disappointed that given the cost of the room and the amount of guests staying in the room, we really had only one bathroom.

Grayslake, ILWinter Family Get Together
Left on 03/07/2012 for a stay in February 2012
Even though it was planned to go skiing and sledding at the state park, the mild and rainy weather with no snow had us hiking Starved Rock in the morning and playing games in the cabin later on. An all adult get together with lots of food, bingo, puzzles, and laughter. My husband and I stayed in one of the dog friendly cabins nearby and we all congregated at Grandma's cabin for meals and games. As well as a large island to serve from, there are 3 trestle tables in the cabin so one was designated as "snack and food table", one was the "game and puzzle table", and the third, which easily sat all 10 of us was the "eating table" - worked out perfectly! We found everything (and more) of what we needed for the weekend and were quite impressed with the array and quantity of kitchenware provided. We did find temperature differences between rooms, however, the ones closest to the thermostat being warmer than the ones on the opposite side. Wished the fireplace was real wood, but still great. The whirlpool cabin was roomy and very comfortable, and loved the fact that the woods were right behind us. The availability of movies, games, etc. at the 24/7 office was a huge plus! Plan on coming back!

With a spacious and open central room and four tidy bedroom, this is the best place ever for large groups. A well-furnished kitchen, interesting wall decor, several large tables, and comfy recliners make this a terrific getaway. The hosts are friendly and helpful. Even in the midst of winter, the site is gorgeous. It's a great value!

Left on 08/14/2011 for a stay in August 2011
We stayed with two other couples and their 3 small children in early august and had a blast. The cabin was clean and large enough to easily fit us all comfortably. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils and everything one would need to cook and keep tummies full. It came with a grill, picnic tables, and a fire pit. They even provide chairs for around the fire. It was close to Starved Rock State Park so we could take day-trips there. Overall, we were very impressed with the entire resort and cannot wait to visit again next year.

We rented the Grandma's cabin for our 4 kids and their families for a weekend. We wanted to hike at matthiessen state park and wanted to stay somewhere close where we could all be together. The cabin was just what we were looking. The cabin had everything you needed, down to baby spoons and roasting sticks. We enjoyed the nights sitting by the fire, roasting hot dogs and marshmallows. Staff very friendly and helpful.

This was a fun place to stay with family. The primary room was huge--and super fun! The setting was beautiful. The cabin was attractively decorated and very homey.

Left on 05/11/2011 for a stay in May 2011
We rented Grandma's cottage for a family gathering and had a wonderful time. The cottage was spacious, clean, and comfortable. Check-in was easy, even though we came in late in the evening, the owners took care of us right away, and lead us to our cabin. This would have been difficult because it was so dark. The cabin was well stocked with almost everything you would need, except food of course. The grounds were extremely well kept and beautiful with the spring flowers opening. The cabins were spaced far enough apart that you have privacy, but not so far apart that you couldn't walk to the next cabin. I would definately recommend the cabins to anyone who is looking for a quiet stay or a family reunion! We will be back!

Left on 04/21/2011 for a stay in April 2011
I was holding a "camp" for 20 people and found Granmma's Cabin to be the perfect meeting place for the group. We stayed in three cabins, all of which were good. But what was unique about having Granmma's Cabin was that we could all get together for breakfast and dinner and be much more of a group than if we had stayed in a hotel. The cabins were clean. The beds were comfy. And the staff was friendly. I'd highly recommend Kishauwa (the name of the cabin area) if you are looking for some low-key time away. It took us an hour-and-a-half to get there from Chicago.

This converted boy scout camp is a lovely place to stay while exploring the north-central IL canal area and its many attractions. Well-stocked cabins in a variety of sizes also provide places to just get away and read a good book or enjoy nature. I loved the large video-DVD movie collection in the office and there are games and puzzles for kids.

Left on 04/01/2011 for a stay in November 2010
Terisa has a great place to go. She is working on making the Grandma's cabin more quilter friendly. The thing that would make the weekend better is to be able to arrive around 11am Fri. and leave at 3PM Sun. so we'd have more time to sew and quilt. Also needs more hooks to hang clothes and coats. She has all the essentials there. The video library is great as well as the treats for sale at the office.
