“Perfect quiet family location, outstanding facilities in cottage and surroundings”

Reviewed 6 Oct 2021

My sister, sister-in-law and myself recently spent a wonderful few days at Hen Gamdda Fawr, a lovely family cottage, which is situated in a pleasant, quiet location with a garden at the front. The cottage is very welcoming and immaculately presented. Every effort has been made to accommodate guests' needs. There is excellent WiFi, Smart TV, Netflix, log burner as well as original features, fireplaces and beams. The bed in the main bedroom was luxuriously comfortable and the linen first class. The kitchen is well equipped with everything that you could need. It was useful having a downstairs bathroom and upstairs en suite. The cosy dining and lounge areas were a delight to relax in at night, having been out all day exploring the island. The location is superb and we spent most days exploring. Everywhere on the island is within a reasonable driving distance, although we did indulge ourselves and hired a taxi to Menai Bridge to eat at the excellent Dylan's Seafood Restaurant (book well in advance if you want to eat there!). We also ate at The White Eagle at Roscolyn at the end of one tour of the island and there are many other excellent eating places around. Nearby is the Moelfre Lifeboat Station and we did a lovely coastal walk from there to Lligwy, part of the Angelsey Coastal Pathway, followed by lunch at Ann's Pantry. There are a number of beaches within easy reach and there is something to cater for everyone on the island, sailing, swimming, walking, bird watching, boat trips, eating, or just relaxing. The booklet in the cottage provided information on all facets of the house and its surroundings. The host, Helen, was a delight to deal with from first contact and I feel she would have been accessible at all times if we had had a problem, which I'm glad to say we didn't! Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hen Gamdda Fawr and would definitely recommend you give it a try; you will not be disappointed. We will definitely be returning.

“Perfect stay!”

Reviewed 29 Oct 2020

We booked this cottage for our honeymoon in Anglesey as we were looking for somewhere that was spacious and cosy and would allow us to get away from it all for a week. It ticked every single box and i wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to anyone looking for a traditional cost spacious private welsh cottage. Helen was the BEST host and we are so glad that we found her and her property when we did. The cottage had everything that we needed good wifi, netflix enabled smart TV, cosy fire, good central heating, well equipped kitchen, stunning (and comfy) master bedroom, good parking and great location. There is a tesco and coop approx 5 min drive away and lots of restaurants and beaches and walks very nearby. I normally stay in north west anglesey so this area was quite new to me but it had great beaches, lovely food and was in a great position to explore the rest of the island. In terms of things to while you are staying, Helen has compiled some great recommdations - we had gorgeous tea, cake and bought fab gifts at Ann’s pantry in nearby Moelfre. We also had a lovely meal at the white eagle at rhoscolyn. And would definitely recommend a meal at Marram grass (Moch a Mor) near Newborough forest/beach/llandwyn island (which is in itself really worth a visit - just check the tide times). There is nothing that i can find fault with other than the fact that we had to leave and come home to normal life at the end of our lovely week! I would definitely stay here again. Thanks so much Helen - from the newlyweds :-)

“Beautiful cottage and location”

Reviewed 17 Oct 2020

This is a beautiful cottage, excellent location for nature lovers and in the summer season i would imagine it's a perfect location for water sports enthusiasts. The cottage has all the mod cons you need and a large pretty garden perfect for barbecues but we visited a bit late in the season unfortunately! Bonus is a brillant local the Parciau Arms which has lovely staff and excellent pub grub, highly recommend the lamb chops! I have recommended this cottage to family and friends, and Helen the owner is very friendly and considerate, highly recommend a stay at Hen Gammda Fawr!

“Perfect family getaway”

Reviewed 15 Sep 2020

Hen was the perfect cottage for our much needed, family break in Anglesey. There were 2 adults & 2 children. We felt at home immediately, the cottage was so cosy and welcoming. Our children loved their room & set up base within seconds of arriving and the master bedroom was stunning. One of the most comfortable beds ever!! The location of the cottage was perfect for us to explore plenty of what Anglesey has to offer. Our favourite experience was sea kayaking at Traeth Bychan (only minutes away from the cottage). We were able to choose from many different places to enjoy a meal (or two) out. We particularly enjoyed visiting The Ship Inn at Red Wharf Bay, the food was great and the novelty of sitting in our own beach hut added to the experience. On the evenings we didn't go out we enjoyed lovely family meals at the cottage - the weather was stunning when we were there so we were able to eat outside & make use of the lovely garden. The kitchen was well equipped with everything easy to find. We all also enjoyed cosying up in the lounge to watch tv, I just wish it had been chillier so we could have lit a fire - maybe next time because we will definitely be returning. I highly recommend staying here. Thanks Helen, we all had a fabulous time

“Lovely, comfortable cottage with character”

Reviewed 10 Aug 2020

The cottage was a fantastic base for our stay on Anglesey. There were 2 adults and 2 children in our party. We had travelled from Manchester, stopped off at Zip World Fforest and it was less than an hour to get to the cottage. The cottage had everything we needed and was really cosy. The cottage has lovely original features - fireplaces, beams and feels unique. The kitchen is well equipped and it is really useful having a bathroom and a separate en-suite shower room. There is a nice dining area and lounge area too. We lit a fire in the lounge at night and relaxed with a well deserved G&T! The beds are super comfy, the linen is good quality and luxurious. On the night we arrived we ordered fish and chips from the Golden Fry in Benllech which is less than 10 minutes drive away from the cottage and experienced a fabulous sunset at Benllech beach. The next morning we enjoyed our breakfast outside in the garden of the cottage and it was a very pleasant start to the day. After that we enjoyed a fantastic walk around Parys Mountain, an old copper mine which is 15 minutes away, went to Traeth Bychan which is a beach 5 minutes from the cottage, played on the beach and watched all the water sports activities. We played golf in the afternoon at Baron Hills near Beaumaris too. The location of the cottage allowed us to access all of these lovely places with ease. A perfect base for us to enjoy our time on Anglesey! Would definitely recommend!
