“Cottage for Two” The cottage was very comfortable. The little extras ie flowers, wine, bread, milk etc provided by the owners made it even more welcoming. We had a very enjoyable week despite the ever changing weather. We would go again.

“Peace and alpacas” We booked this property in early October without a thought for the weather, however two weeks before our arrival, the snow fell heavily in the UK. I kept in contact with the owner who assured us they would get us into the fairly remote property at least as they owned a 4x4. The plan was to arrange a Tesco home delivery on the day that we arrived, but the on-line service had stopped taking any more bookings due to the snow. So a quick shopping expedition on our way to North Yorkshire and we were excited. The place is about 1/2 mile off the main road and we found it no problem even in the dark. We were met by Kaye, the owner who soon put us at ease and after a quick run down of the cottage, explained where the local hostelry was. I had been nominated chef for the week, so a quick search round "my kitchen" put me in a great party mood. It was perfect, everything to hand, clean and well equipped. It is a farm cottage on a working smallholding with dogs, chickens, sheep and the alpacas over the fence. The property has a large comfy double bedroom and in the lounge the comfiest sofa bed I have ever slept on. It has constant hot water, a great shower and a stable door to look out into the foldyard. We spent lazy days at home, with the small TV, and plenty of books in the property it was a relaxing break. We are not walkers or ramblers but spent our time equally between "the Bay" and Whitby exploring the lovely shops, pubs and harbour. You cannot go to Whitby without buying smoked Kippers from Fortunes. you cannot visit the Bay without a couple of pints in the pub looking out to sea. We only needed assistance once in our front wheel drive car but the locals were as helpful as any you would wish to meet. Would we go again, you bet your auntie Nelly we would. Lovely cottage, Lovely people, Lovely area!

“A fantastic cottage in a great location” The cottage is warm, spacious and well-presented. It has everything you could possibly need for a great holiday - stunning views, lots of wildlife, a well-equipped kitchen, a comfy bed and one of the best collections of Dvds and books we have come across. What's more, the location is second to none - on one hand you have the beautiful Yorkshire Dales, on the other there is the stunning Lake District. We also found a number of lovely local walks in and around Kirkby Stephen. In short, a walker's paradise! We will be back soon.

“Great stay at ash Pot Barn” I stayed at ash Pot Barn with 6 other ladies. We had a great time. We couldnt fault our stay in anyway. We would definatley return, especially in Summer as it has a great BBQ area overlooking the Fells, But was cosy in the winter when we went. We walked to the Fat Lamb pub which took about 1 hour 10 mins. Secluded location but perfect for relaxing and staying in, great kitchen/living area. Bedrooms spacious and everywhere very clean.

“Very comfortable, goos location” Had a great week, we love the area and discovered some new walks and places to visit, The accomodation was very homely and the owners who lived next door, gave us a lot of information about the area. Would reccomend this cottage to anyone.

“Perfect!!” The Goat Shed was the perfect place to spend our 10 year wedding anniversary. Lovely walks close by and friendly pubs (which welcomed our dog Busta!)...all in all a perfect place to spend a week relaxing. Highly recommend the Goat Shed for couples wanting to get away from it all.

“The perfect 'get away from it all' cottage” From the moment we were welcomed by the owner to the moment we left this was the perfect get away from it all break. The cottage was very cosy for a winter break, we could also see it as ideal for those warmer evenings, sitting outside by the beck. Although Lastingham is in a lovely quiet valley the towns of Whitby, Scarborough and Malton are all within easy reach. Walking on the Moors is accessible from the door-step,wonderful countryside to explore in all seasons as long as you are fully prepared; walking boots,etc. are essential. We hope to return in the very near future.

“perfect cottage” the cottage was very beautiful. the interior was very warm and inviting. it was quiet and peaceful, all the ingredients for a relaxing holiday.

“Very relaxing” The property makes for an excellent base for travelling to the coast or the North Yorkshire Moors. The property owners are extremely friendly and helpful. The property is spotlessly clean. The pub is just two minutes walk across the road; the food and service are second to none and the staff are very accommodating and everyone is dog friendly. This was our second visit to this property and we will probably visit again.

“Stunningly secluded, brilliant cottage” Where do I start? This was my second visit in six months and it felt like "coming home". Mrs. Scott (the owner) and her daughter keep their well-appointed cottage in excellent condition there's even a small collection of dvd's and board games should the weather turn nasty; I was there when the a1 was flooded for three days. Their welcome was as warm and friendly as before (the first time I was there I was even able to borrow a hairdryer as I'd forgotten mine!). The cottage is exactly as it's described, secluded. I went there to write in peace and found precisely that. The landlord and landlady at the local pub are great and the food is excellent - try the cheese platter - although it's a tad more than a five minute walk from Shepherd's Cottage. If you're into walking then this is the place to be; the sorrounding countryside is magnificent. What didn't I like? Having to leave.

“Perfect retreat for couples” Excellent welcome on arrival, very spacious & clean. Both cottage & surrounding area absolutely first class. Will defiantly recommend to friends & family. Really good heating system & plenty of hot water.The thing we liked best was the lovely bathroom facilities. The thing we liked least was the TV was too small for the room although it worked well & had plenty of channels.

“Beautiful cottage in a great location” This is a beautiful and clean cottage - perfect for a family or group of friends. The location is fantastic, on the edge of the village on the path to the cove, but just minutes from pubs, etc. I would definitely recommend this cottage to others

“A great experience in the Irish country” Everything was cozy, simple and nice. Quite a few spiders but I guess it's something you cannot avoid in the country.

“ideal location” the cottage is very well equipped comfortable and cosy. excellent location easy to get to whitby great butchers and very tranquil settings.

“Ideal location for peace & quiet, and bird life incredible!!” We loved this little cottage, because of its' location, the huge garden (not totally dog-friendly but fine for well behaved dogs) and surrounding woodlands.. loch just nearbye, wonderful log burner (unlimited logs) very interesting countryside - very friendly helpful owner.. yummy choc. biscuits and bottle of wine provided. Would love to stay there again but a 7 hr. journey from us. Quite interesting places to visit, i.e. beaches, parks and gardens, all within a few miles. Nearest main supermarket was in Stranraer, but a little village store in Leswait itself. The coastline up to Girvan and beyond is alo interesting, and we did see seals.

“Wren's nest” We were made very welcome by the owners. Wren's nest may be small but fine for two. It's in a great position for walks, cycle rides and trips around the area.

“Fantastic - perfect for a cosy weekend” I absolutely loved this place! Set in the middle of no where, perfectly furnished, lovely cottage, a local town about 10 minute drive away which has everything you can need. The only down side was lack of mobile signal but if you want the perfect get away that's no problem! I will definetely be returning and recommending to friends as it's perfect!
