“A sublime place to stay” We will be returning to Alphaven this year for our third stay in as many years. The fact that we are coming from Australia says a lot about this property and the way that John and Ursula look after their guests. When we first looked for accommodation in Switzerland, we thought we'd be staying at what we considered to be a traditional swiss dwelling - all timber and small windows - not really what we wanted. I mean, if you've got it, flaunt it in terms of the wonderful view!
After looking at many properties on the internet, Alphaven suddenly popped onto our screen and the rest, as they say, is history. The website is the best we've seen, answered every question we could possibly have had and it just got better and better.
We arrived in foggy, semi-dark conditions to a glass sanctuary perched on the side of a hill and I use the word "hill" advisedly. The property is easy to access from the heart of Engelberg. We came by car (people mover actually) but train is an excellent option too. What greeted us was a beautifully designed and spacious apartment with floor to ceiling glass and every modern amenity.
The full spendour of the view did not reveal itself until the next morning, when we were up at six admiring the sun coming up over the mountains, with the majestic Mt Titlis opposite our living room! By the way, the weather was superb during our entire stay.
You may think I'm over the top, but when you've had a full day out sight seeing in a beautiful part of the world and you can walk into your accommodation in the evening and say "ahh, I'm home, time for a glass of wine"....well, you know you've found gold!!
