Old Miller Trout Farm Guest House--Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia

Margaree Forks house

“Awesome fishing, relaxation - just paradise” Because she had done so well in a class project, I had promised my daughter an 'end of summer' trip to the Bell Museum in Baddeck. Friends recommended the Old Miller Trout Farm to us. I was reluctant to book because the property is not on the ocean and not in Baddeck, However we followed our friends recommendation. We quickly discovered that everything on the Island is a scenic drive from somewhere...the ocean beaches in Margaree are all within a short drive, Baddeck is close, the "Crafters Loop" on the Cabot Trail that the owners directed us to was wonderful, the show at the Barn, (also recommended by the owners), was fantastic, the meal we had at Big Intervale was superb...our only disappointment was that there were no whales seen on our Whale Watching trip out of Pleasant Bay, (no charge!). This may have been because we were there a day or so after a hurricane had largely missed the Island although it did hit Quebec and New Brunswick. We also ended up fishing for trout at the farm and our hosts even froze some for us to take home when we left! All in all a wonderful, quiet place to stay and relax but certainly close to anything one would want to go to on the island. We will return, but next time will have more time!!!

“the perfect get-away from loud and busy lives to take a break” I spent there just a couple of days three years ago but I was immediately in love with this place and came home feeling like I had been on a long-term vacation. Coming from a hectic life near Manhattan, I truly enjoyed being far away, embraced by open views to the gorgeous bay and nothing else but peace and quiet and nature. The house is modern, wide and open but yet warm and cozy in style. Waking up in the morning and seeing the glistening bay from your bed, taking a walk on the beach (refreshingly empty compared to NJ beaches!), having a drink in the afternoon on the porch while relaxing and admiring the sun set, eating lobsters in town, just wonderful. I am only sorry the golf course was not yet there; however, that's just another reason for me to come back.

FANTASTIC!!!

These beautiful log cottages were immaculately clean and cozy. They are on the Cabot trail and close to the Glenora Distillery, Red Shoe Pub, and the magnificent Atlantic Ocean as well as the Margaree River. The proprietor, Angela, was very sweet and couldn't do enough for us. I would recommend these cottages to anyone!see more

A Most Wonderful Get-Away Experience

We stayed at the Old Miller Trout Farm last week i.e. Aug 5- Aug 11, 2012. It was our first holiday in the maritimes. And what a wonderful holiday it was in large part because of the Stinson's and our choice to stay at Old Miller. The house was lovely - comfortable, cosy, tastefully decorated - has a rural, old world charm. It is well equipped - kitchen, wi-fi, TV and whatever else one might generally need. The local co-op is a stone's throw away for supplies and groceries. We instantly fell at home, especially our two-and-a-half-year old boy. The farm is quiet, serene and surrounded by woods. Makes you feel like you're nestled in the woods away for the mainstream. And yet it is only a few minutes drive away from the Cabot Trail. The Stinson's were very helplful and knowledgeable about things to do on the island. We also enjoyed our first experience fishing trout. All-in-all a great stay and at excellent value. Would strongly recommend the Old Miller Trout Farmsee more
