“Compact but comfortable holiday home.” Very compact, not for large families, but very well located. Ideal for exploring the Roman Wall and the spectacular Northumberland scenery.

“A fantastic cottage in a great location” The cottage is warm, spacious and well-presented. It has everything you could possibly need for a great holiday - stunning views, lots of wildlife, a well-equipped kitchen, a comfy bed and one of the best collections of Dvds and books we have come across. What's more, the location is second to none - on one hand you have the beautiful Yorkshire Dales, on the other there is the stunning Lake District. We also found a number of lovely local walks in and around Kirkby Stephen. In short, a walker's paradise! We will be back soon.

“The place you must have --if it's available then book here quick” Excellent property /location and facilities . Owner next door left cake and wine to welcome us . She was friendly but did not intrude . Plenty of room for 2 cars . Haltwhistle is pleasant and located well for walking -not just the Wall . Take the train to Carlisle and go round the castle etc . Good pubs, shops and sandwich bar in Haltwhistle . Eat out at Milecastle and Greenhead? hotel.

SHEPHERD'S COTTAGE, pet friendly, character holiday cottage, with a garden in

Middleton in Teesdale house

“Stunningly secluded, brilliant cottage” Where do I start? This was my second visit in six months and it felt like "coming home". Mrs. Scott (the owner) and her daughter keep their well-appointed cottage in excellent condition there's even a small collection of dvd's and board games should the weather turn nasty; I was there when the a1 was flooded for three days. Their welcome was as warm and friendly as before (the first time I was there I was even able to borrow a hairdryer as I'd forgotten mine!). The cottage is exactly as it's described, secluded. I went there to write in peace and found precisely that. The landlord and landlady at the local pub are great and the food is excellent - try the cheese platter - although it's a tad more than a five minute walk from Shepherd's Cottage. If you're into walking then this is the place to be; the sorrounding countryside is magnificent. What didn't I like? Having to leave.

“Heaven!!! Highly recommended ;)” Cosy homely feel, the owners were very welcoming and helpful always. Great location and hot tub was fab! Beautiful cottage with lovely log fire which made our Christmas week perfect including the Christmas tree provided, lovely touch. Would definitely go there again and already recommend to friends and family. Thank you for a wonderful holiday. Mr Costello and Miss Stunt Peterborough, December 2012

“Fantastic Rental Cottage” We stayed at Swallow's nest for our anniversary in Sept 11. The interior was finished to a very high standard, it was like staying in a 5 star hotel. The kitchen was well equipped and we enjoyed buying the amazing produce of the lake district and cooking it up back at the cottage, enjoying the views as we ate. The location is good, close to Penrith town centre, and good transport links into the Lake District. The owners were very friendly and helpful. We would definitely come back.

“Great break after recent hospital treatment.” Good welcome pack in accommodation which was appreciated. The cottage was excellent for our requirements with a pet labrador. The location was well placed for touring Cumbria and the Lake District. Although we did not take advantage of the amenities they appeared well managed and very good. We liked the available walks through the valley especially with our dog. Although no doubt temporary ongoing contruction work made for very muddy conditions on the approach to the cottage. The settee was not the most comfortable for a weeks stay.

THE OLD DRAPERY, country holiday cottage in Haltwhistle, Ref 9821

Haltwhistle house

  • 1 bedroom
  • 1 bathroom
  • sleeps 2

“Nice place; handy for Hadrian's Wall.” Nice loft flat that's very handy for Hadrian's Wall. Makes a good base for folks with 2 cars doing point-to-point walks. The flat is much better than the entrance way and hallways. Nicely furnished and the kitchen is well-equipped. My one complaint is that the taps in the kitchen and bathroom are very cheaply finished. The bathroom sink and shower both leaked from our arrival. Overall, very handy for the local grocery store and pubs. Haltwhistle itself is lacking in depth in restaurants and pubs, but there is a very handy chip shop just down the High Street. "The Milecastle Inn" is a very nice pub just 3 miles away, on the Military Road, that does good food.

“Beautifully decorated and furnished.” This is a lovely place for a couple to stay. It makes a great base for a touring holiday in Northumberland. In walking distant of Hadrian's Wall. The inside is done to a very high standard and is comfortable. There's plenty of shops, cafes and pubs in the village. The only downside is that it's on a main road but that didn't detract from our enjoyment of our holiday in any way.
