SPECTACULAR BEACHFRONT ROOFTOP PENTHOUSE IN LAS TERRENAS: A CARRIBEAN DREAM

Las Terrenas apartment

3 bedrooms / 4 bathrooms / sleeps 8

“Just another Day in Paradise!” My family and I spent a marvelous week at this elegant property and have not stopped raving about our stay to family and friends. The penthouse itself is spacious and well equipped with 4 sliding doors that look out over the pool, beach and out into the sea. The cook, recommended by the manager, prepared a scrumptious lunch, which we enjoyed each day on one of the two terraces. We primarily used our rented quad to ride into town for shopping, and to go out to dinner on several days.My in-law's, who live in the DR, came up for a few days and we used their car to get around when we were going out with a larger group. We found several restaurants we enjoyed, nearby. There were plenty of things to do in and around town, including scuba diving, kayaking, day trips to Limon or simply walking along the beach. We are already planning to return next year and to extend our stay to 2 weeks.

“Amazing time and beautiful place” I stayed at the Loma Taniera residence in house# 2 for a week in the context of a wedding organized by friends where 32 of us were staying in 4 houses. All houses are equally beautiful and comfortable. The staff is very nice, houses are very clean. The view on the water from the hills is stunning. The residence is very well maintained and has all amenities you need (in each house: AC, internet, swimming pool, laundry, etc.). It is still an area which is not too developed so internet can be a bit slow sometimes, but it works. Fred, the owner of the place organized activities for us every day: picknick/BBQ on private beaches only accessible by boat, quad (ATV) rides in the mountain to swim in waterfalls, horse riding on the beach, yoga classes at the house, massage, etc... We had an amazing time and Fred was always on top of things for us.

“Comfortable, Close to Beach” This is a lovely unit just off the beach in residence surrounded by similar units, and accessed via gate. The unit doesn't have air conditioning (fans in every room, including porch) but that was the only set back. It is close to town and very close to the beach. The afternoon evening front desk guy was very helpful. The place was clean and roomy, having your own kitchen on vacation is so nice! And, the front porch is a definite plus, we spent most of our evening out front sipping on presidente. A great find!

“Private Luxury!!” Our stay at Vista Mare was amazing and my husband and I would love to return there in the future. The hotel was almost empty for most of our trip, which was very nice because it felt very quiet and private. There was almost no one at the beaches and very few people in the restaurant. The food we ate during our stay was all very good. The fresh fruit in our kitchen on the day we arrived was some of the most delicious fruit I have ever tasted. Likewise, the food at the restaurant was gourmet quality, reasonably priced (us$ 9 for a pasta dish) and the service was exceptional. My husband and I speak very limited Spanish, but the friendly servers spoke some English, so this was not a problem. We also ate some delicious dinners in Samana. Vista Mare itself is an amazingly beautiful place. Each unit has a balcony that has a breathtaking view that overlooks the beach and gets plenty of sunshine all day long. The resort is built onto the side of a very steep hill which makes for incredible views from the restaurant and pool at the top of the hill. We watched whales from our breakfast table all week long. The hill drops more than 200 hundred feet from the main gate to the beach. We are young and healthy so this was not a problem for us, although I would not recommend this place for people with bad knees or who can't climb more than a few flights of stairs. The room was cleaned everyday and the maid even tended to our dishes. All the employees at Vista Mare were very friendly and very professional. Humberto and Jose, who work at the restaurant, were excellent. The front desk concierge spoke enough English to make up for our poor Spanish skills, and the maids and security guards always greeted us with a smile. Vista Mare is gated and most of the units are set back from the road. There are security guards stationed around the property, which contributed to the overall feeling of safety.

“Live like comfortably a "local" at el Nido” We spent a week at Carolyn’s place. It felt like home from the moment we arrived at the airport. The personal service was perfect – not overbearing or pretentious. She is always available to tend to needs. The accommodations are in a cozy, very clean, friendly and safe setting amidst singing birds, a variety of flowers, coconut trees, and a few steps from the pool. A short walk to the beach and town of Las Terrenas provided ample opportunity for recreation and entertainment. ‘Like a local’, you can shop for fresh food, dine out, experience the town on foot, scooter or ATV, or hire a ‘taxi’ for 50 pesos. It was an ideal setting for a sunrise-beach wedding with perfect weather, privacy, and rolling waves. We anticipate many returns to this unique holiday location. The odd power outage added an excuse for a lantern/candle light dinner al fresco. We highly recommend it if ‘all inclusive” resorts and crowds are not your thing.

Villa Mo at El Portillo, Las Terrenas, Dom Rep
Legitimate Paradise...

To keep it short and sweet, the house, location, and amenities were everything that we imagined and more. Having traveled to Las Terrenas before, I already had a small grasp of the area, but Monica, her husband, the security, and house-keeping & cook Yani made our stay very pleasurable. Picture this. You wake up, to your coffee made just how you like it waiting for you (thanks to Yani.) After pouring yourself a cup, you decide to take a walk to the beach & quick dip in crystal-clear ocean, since you're about 100m away. By the time you arrive back, your favorite breakfast is made and ready on the outdoor deck, overlooking your personal pool and ocean. After breakfast, you go into town, whale-watching, maybe workout, and by the time you're done for the day, you get to go to sleep to the sound of the waves, and air-conditioning in your room. It was an amazing experience, and I wouldn't have traded it for the world. Highly recommend this house, as having Monica's local expertise & guidance, combined with the untouched beauty and true Dominican culture is something we'll never forget. Even Monica's awesome puppies made the experience more enjoyable! If I HAD to pick one thing that wasn't bad, just to know, is that Monica and her husband live upstairs on a separate side of the house. You can have as little to as much interaction with them as you want. I honestly wanted more interaction, as they were very nice, but they respected our privacy. Thanks to them and Yani for an incredible stay!see more

Whale Watch Without Leaving Home! Pool,4 Bedrooms.
Spectacular Villa in Paradise!

What a spectacular vacation! We stayed at Villa Las Ballenas for 10 days with three other couples, a total of 8. The house was absolutely perfect for 8 adults. All 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms were clean and accommodated us perfectly. The villa grounds are well kept and boast a variety of palm trees, fruit trees and plants. The staff, Geronimo and Nana were very attentive and assisted us with any questions we had. Geronimo even hooked us up with a guy who delivered lobster and prawns right to the house, fresh from the boat. Nana was gracious enough to allow us to attend Church with her on Sunday evening. The house was equipped with everything needed to cook, relax and to enjoy ourselves. Place settings, towels for showers, extra sheets, beach towels and even a charcoal BBQ by the pool. The bedrooms have air-conditioning that you can turn on when you are sleeping, however we only ran ours twice during our stay as we chose to open our windows and let the ocean breeze blow thru. We spent our days by having a cup of coffee while watching the whales swim by in the morning from the gazebo, then lunch by the pool while swimming and lounging. Early afternoon cocktails by the pool and then dinner at the dining room table while the light breezes blew thru the big french doors. It really is an oasis all in itself. It was a very hard decision each day to decide whether we even wanted to leave the house or just stay by the pool all day. We enjoyed reading, playing card games and visiting with our friends. The internet worked the whole time we were there so we were able to video chat with our kids back home and receive “imessages”. The house dog Lucy was wonderful and very well behaved. She lounged by our feet and cleaned up any crumbs that were left behind. In Las Galeras there is a fish shop, a hardware store, restaurants, gift shops and a small grocery store. We enjoyed Playa Ricon so much that we went twice during our stay. We rented our car thru NATIONAL Rental car in Santo Domingo. On day four of our trip our car battery died. I called National and they actually drove up a new car the very next day and delivered it to the house. I was skeptical as it was a 3 hour drive, but National did deliver on their word! On day 8 we took a drive to Las Terranas and the view was spectacular. Definitely recommend doing a day trip. The scenery is incredible! All in all, we had a wonderful vacation and highly recommend staying at Villa Las Ballenas!see more

Fantastic Condo

we recently stayed at this condo in April with good friends. . there were 6 of us and we had a fabulous time. It was everything we could have wanted. The location was fantastic and the hospitality perfect for a short getaway. The staff were wonderful. Offered us a golf cart tour of the town the first day, which we took. Short walks from fantastic restaurants, stores and across the street from the beach. We will be back for sure and look forward to our next stay. thank you again for the opportunity to enjoy your beautiful condo. excellent is all I have to say.see more
El Nido de Las Ballenas Bungalow
Great hospitality / Beauty / Adventures / Gastronomy / Paradise!

We are from the New York area and were looking for a place to vacation that would be different to the usual “all-inclusive” choices that you can find around the world. We were looking for a safe and peaceful place where we could explore and make our own choices and our own routine and at the same time, a place where we could relax, so we decided to go to El Nido De Las Ballenas in Las Terrenas, known for its white sand and clear water beaches. It has miles and miles of nearly virgin gorgeous beaches. We were there the week of Thanks Giving Nov 25-30, 2014 We stayed in “El Nido De Las Ballenas” and had a wonderful and unique experience. Starting with the owner of the place, Carolyn, who greeted us as if we knew her our entire life and made us feel very welcome and at home, to the simplicity and beauty of the place. The bungalows are simply gorgeous, clean and well maintained. The entire place is very family oriented and very friendly. The patio and pool area have beautiful gardens and are very inviting to spend time to relax, have drinks and meet the other guests. We were honored, along with some of the other guests, to enjoy dinner at Carolyn’s place with some of her friends, where we enjoyed a lovely gourmet meal, and still today, I am preparing some of the wonderful recipes she shared with us. (I impress my guests at home now using her recipes). Carolyn’s friends became our friends and they made us feel like part of an extended family where they included us in many of their activities and made us feel very welcome as if we knew them for long time. El Nido De Las Ballenas is a short walk to one of many amazing beaches of that area. There are many restaurants that will take your gastronomic experience to a new level due to the fusion of cultures and flavors. Also within short walk from El Nido De Las Ballenas, is a wonderful area called “El Pueblo de Los Pescadores” (The Fisherman town), where you might see the lobster or fish you will order for dinner caught fresh by the local fisherman of the area and where you will find very cute restaurants with fine cuisine from many countries right on the white sandy beach. That area is very family oriented but it offers great bars and discos if you fell like dancing the night away. The bungalows are equipped with all kitchen essentials (including small refrigerator and stove), but with so many great places to eat, you probably won’t need them. The area has a lot of Europeans that have made the paradise of Las Terrenas their home, so you can enjoy wonderful French Cafes, Italian restaurants, etc. along with the great local Dominican cuisine. There are a lot of interesting places to go and excursions you can take, which Carolyn can help you plan. Many tourists rent 4 wheelers or mopeds to tour the nearby beaches or just for fun. Since we were there for Thanks Giving day, Carolyn once again extended her hospitality by inviting us to a Thanksgiving party at the house of one of her friends. Once again she made us part of her close group of friends who really made us feel at home away from home. Carolyn showed us around, recommended many great places to visit and attended to every need we had to make sure our stay in her resort was comfortable and that we had a great experience while we were visiting and I have to say, she exceeded our expectations. At the end of our trip, we didn’t feel like we visited a small resort, we felt like we went to visit wonderful friends living in an exotic location that would be best described as paradise. We can’t wait to go back to El Nido De Las Ballenas.see more

We recommend La Cortesana.

We had a very enjoyable stay here. Patricia was very accommodating and went out of her way to do anything she could to make our stay more enjoyable. If there was anything we needed, we just had to ask her. Our apartment was very clean and spacious. It was fairly well equipped. It is very close to the beach with a very pretty walkway to the beach. The beach is beautiful. Would like to have been a little closer to town. but there was no shortage of motor conchos that you could get to go to town for 50 pesos. The interlocking brick boulevard runs alongside the ocean into town, so it is an enjoyable walk to town. Overall, this was a very nice vacation spot and we would definitely like to come back some day.see more
