Cozy Chalet In The Pines, Only 5 Mi From Mt Snow. UNDER CONSTRUCTION TIL DEC.

West Wardsboro chalet

2 bedrooms / 1 bathroom / sleeps 6

“Great cabin, charming, simple and great location!!” We rented from Pat and Marco for a stay around Christmas '14 and was very happy with the cabin. It's just what we wanted - simple, charming and no frills. All that and Pat was very helpful to us when we had a couple questions upon arrival (nothing was wrong, we just needed to get on the wifi and find some supplies that ended up being in the house!). It's tucked into the woods right off Rt 100 in West Wardsboro. Around 5 or so minutes north of Mt Snow and 20 from Stratton. The property is pretty private. Short single width driveway that will hold around 4-5 cars I suppose. Walk up to second floor for main entry. When you walk in it's a wide open living/kitchen/dining area with laminate style hardwood style floors. Great little wood burning stove with plenty of firewood and kindling. There is a walk out deck that overlooks the woods with plenty of room for a small charcoal grill and chairs (great for the kids to throw snowballs at each from other apparently! Don't worry, not at the house!). Kitchen is no frills with bunch of cabinets, electric range/oven, toaster over, full-size fridge and such. Pat has the kitchen stocked up with all the stuff you need - plates, cooking, utensils, cooking staples also happened to be there (salt, pepper, pantry items she offered for us to use). Nice size older dining table for 8 or more people to sit at in the kitchen area. Good for hanging around during breakfast or playing a game at night. I will say that Pat warned us that the oven got VERY hot so to be careful when cooking with it. I found that to be true, but manageable. We weren't doing much more than breakfast or warming up pizza for the kids. There was a small microwave as well. Walking down the stairwell to the bottom floor leads to what appears to be an updated living area. Still simple, nothing fancy, but was very clean, had towels, plenty of sheets and laundry items. There is a new washer/dryer combo in the closet as well - again with everything we needed to handle wash duties for our 4 night stay. The bathroom was also updated. Very clean, well appointed, everything worked well. Good shower pressure and full bath tub. Plenty of warm water for 7 morning showers in fact! While we had 7 of us (2 adults, 4 teens and 1 10 year old) the sleeping arrangement worked well. The main bedroom is tight, but has a queen bed (like an ikea bed or something) and that's about it. There is a horizontal window that you can open as well. Small closet as well. not alot of room for your luggage on the floor as bed takes up almost all space. The second bedroom was good. They made good use of the space with a day bed (has two twin beds - one rolls out) and then a bunk bed. So we got kids in there and one on an air mattress we brought. The kids played outside in the snow while we were there as there was not a huge yard per se, but nice woodsy area to play around in the snow. Plenty of outside lights to let them hang out and not bother neighbors. It's nice that you can hear the river over the road from the house. Everything worked well. Heat can be very warm, particularly if you have the wood burning stove on. The thermostat is in the upstairs living area so if that is too warm, you won't get a lot of heat downstairs, but we were comfortable. At times, while we got used to it we got too hot at night. Overall, it was a great location near two major mountains. It was well kept, not fancy but very charming and had everything we needed. It was definitely worth the cost and the owners were very nice and responsive when we called. If there was anything I would recommend it might be to consider having more channels on the tv. The kids, and us, got a little frustrated trying to find something to watch at night as there wer e not many channels. Or if there were we couldn't find them on the dish TV. It's not a disaster but was worth noting. Just maybe a channel list or something. You do have the benefit of places to eat in Dover and north near Stratton and not too terribly far from Manchester. There is the West Wardsboro country store right down the road so I'm sure you can grab usual roadside Vermont country store type supplies there in a pinch though I wasn't sure what the hours were. I will say that it was hard to find the actual location when I went to drive up that day. I am very familiar with the area so I figured it out, but more by looking at the picture and the general location on the map. It's not the owners fault, but FlipKey doesn't make it easy to get the actual address. Was likely the most frustrating thing about renting it through them. Pat did send me an email before heading up and made getting in easy once there. Key lockbox on door, simple, easy... no worries. We would definitely consider renting again if we stay around that area!! Thanks Pat and Marco for a great rental!
