Additional Location Information

The house is on the 4 wheel drive beach known locally as Carova. You will need a 4 wheel drive vehicle. If you're coming from the north take Hwy 158 and cross the bridge at Southern Shores. Then take Hwy 12 to the North Beaches. If you are coming from the south take Hwy 95 and then take Hwy 64 East and cross the bridge at Nags Head. Then take Hwy 12 North to Southern Shores. Stay on Hwy 12 for 19 miles to Corolla. Make sure you stop somewhere to take the air out of your tires before going on the beach. You'll access the beach at the Northern end of NC 12 where the paved road ends. Turn left and continue driving off-road for about 2.5 miles. Look for the green 15.5 mile post. There will be a group of houses with one house that stands out because it's right on the beach. You can't miss it cause you will see it from a distance. It's called Laughing Gull. Unlike on the map there are no actual street signs. The sand roads have well worn tracks and are easy to see. Turn off the beach and take the sand road that is just before the first house in the group of houses. (There's a post in the sand with a bright green rope tied around it to mark the entrance of the ramp). This sand road curves left and then right as you go over the dune. You can then see Smooth Sailing on the other side. Keep right. It's the first house on the left. (it's next to one with a red roof ). Once you are there you'll find there's another way off the beach. I like to take a right from the driveway and follow along the back of the dunes to a second ramp. This ramp has gravel and it's used by tours and locals when the tide is up high. (There's a post in the sand with a red rope tied around it to mark the entrance of it).
