Vista Country Home is your country estate at the center of 100s of acres of rural splendor, close to battlefields that shaped America's history. A fully furnished and equipped 3-bedroom home, Vista offers vacationers and business travelers the COMFORTS of city and the BEAUTY of the country. Slumber in luxurious high threadcount linens of the 3 bedrooms, dine in spacious elegance of the big-family dining room, relax in the walled garden beneath a timber gazebo beside a sparkling fountain.
Seniors will appreciate that all rooms (except the optional 3rd bedroom) are on one floor, which opens onto both the south-facing balcony and the south & west-facing, hacienda-style walled garden.
While our friends who love our American Civil War heritage find Vista especially appealing for its proximity to key historic sites, everyone will enjoy the sheer comfort, privacy, and beautiful setting Vista offers. It is an ideal spot year round for family gatherings or as your base for area visitor attractions.
Each bedroom enjoys VIEWS OF NATURE and country splendor from all the bedroom windows. Each bedroom has ultra-fine linens, and its own large bathroom.
The LARGE, WELL-EQUIPPED KITCHEN will delight any chef. Culinary experts and amateurs alike will appreciate the fine and plentiful tools, utensils, and cookware provided for preparing fine meals. Serve your meals with nice flatware and dishes and enjoy them outside in the gazebo, on the balcony, or in the large and elegant dining room.
The SPACIOUS AND ELEGANT DINING ROOM, with seating for 8-10 diners, and LARGE living room are bathed in natural light. Enormous and numerous windows open to hundreds of acres trees, fields, streams and wildflowers--all part of your own private country estate!
With Vista as your vacation base, you can easily drive to DOZENS OF HISTORIC SITES and some of the world's finest visitor's centers to experience history where it happened, and honor those who fought and died to make America the great nation it is today.
A mere 15-minute drive will take you to GETTYSBURG--to where Chamberlain stood moments before he ordered a bayonet charge down the slopes of Little Round Top; to Cemetery Ridge, where the rebel yell still echoes from Pickett's Confederates as they charged to the 'high water mark' of the war; to the Gettysburg Cemetery, where Lincoln delivered the most famous speech in history honoring those who gave 'the last full measure.'
Vista offers easy access to many of America's other most important historical sites, as well, including Antietam and Monocacy Battlefields, as well as cultural and recreational sites in and around Washington DC and Baltimore.
After a day of sightseeing, golf, or ANTIQUES SHOPPING in the many excellent antique shops in Carroll County, you can kick back at Vista. Sip a cool iced tea or glass of wine from under Vista's gazebo as steaks sizzle on the grill, and a red setting sun yields the dimming cornfields and sycamore trees to a constellation of sparkling fireflies.
Or, enjoy the Maryland traditional celebratory feast: a pot of blue crabs from Vince's Seafood, steaming in savory Old Bay seasoning, with cold bottle of delicious locally crafted beer, or a chilled glass of fresh apple cider from nearby Baugher's Orchard. Two large supermarkets are within 2 miles of Vista for your food & shopping needs, but check with your host for free, fresh, farm garden vegetables you can gather yourself!
Prefer to dine out? Vista is only 3 miles from Taneytown, where you can find WORLD-CLASS DINING at the Smokehouse Restaurant, the fabulous restaurant of the deluxe country hotel, ANTRIM 1844, an elegant ante-bellum mansion. At the other end of the cost spectrum, McDonald's, Pizza Hut and other familiar eateries are CLOSE and offer faster food alternatives.
The larger, but still nearby towns of GETTYSBURG and WESTMINSTER boast wonderful small-town character in pubs, diners, and family restaurants to please any palate and any budget.
For a quiet evening at your Country Home, enjoy a movie or documentary from a large collection of Civil War DVDs on a large HD TV, which also includes cable TV viewing options.
For a quieter evening, curl up with one of the many books in the Vista library of Civil War and American fiction and history books and periodicals.
Vista also offers you WiFi for HIGH-SPEED INTERNET access. Use it to look up your Civil War ancestors, check your email, or tell your Facebook friends what a great time you are having! (Sorry we cannot offer streaming of movies).
We invite you to be our guest for an experience of comfort and learning that you will cherish and will want to share with friends and family!TripAdvisor property ID 2100603...Read more

The description of Vista is certainly accurate, but we found it to be even better in person. Vista is a very special place that reflects the love and care of the Batten family. The spotless, comfortable, spacious home offers unobstructed country views showing off the Maryland countryside. The well-equipped kitchen and new gas BBQ made it easy to prepare meals. All of the outdoor areas are inviting to watch the active bird feeders, eating on the patio or deck, glimpsing the fish in the pond and watching sunsets and approaching thunderstorms.
Vista is highly recommended! Vista provides a perfect base from which to explore the many historical sites. Chris and Melissa were available to answer any questions we had and made welcome suggestions, as did Bruce. The four of us stayed at Vista for 9 days and it was truly difficult to leave our new friends Chris and Melissa.
As my friend said, "Every day we were so glad to have this slice of heaven to come home to."

Close to Gettysburg, Antietam !!

This house was incredible for our stay. We had 4 adults and 4 teenagers. Us adults got the bedrooms ( with our own full bathrooms ) and the teens got the basement room (with their own full bathroom ). We were able to grill out, have breakfast every morning and just relax. Morning coffee on the deck - so peaceful, I must have counted 15 hummingbirds. This place is just beautiful. The beds were so comfortable. The location is perfect if Gettysburg, Antietam, Harpers Ferry, Baltimore or Frederick interests you. The Battens are wonderful hosts, we wish we could have stayed an extra day to visit, explore their farm, walk the creek and absorb the peacefulness of this place.

I can't say enough about Vista. Words fail me. It was that good. This home is spotless, and with its beveled glass front door and tasteful furnishings you might think you've stepped into the pages of home decor magazine. Think of the nicest hotel you've ever stayed at times 10 but with Vista, here you get the whole house which included three separate bathrooms, one of which is located downstairs to accommodate the three beds down there, thus maintaining the privacy and the dignity of all the travelers. There was plenty of room for the kids to run around and make noise with no one banging on thin hotel room walls telling them to be quiet, and a stunning library courtesy of the owner. There were maps of the surrounding area, travel pamphlets and a thoughtfully written notebook further detailing Vista itself as well as the Taneytown area. The large windows and gorgeous patios were a perfect showcase to the stunning views from the house. We're city people so the fireflies, deer, colorful birds, other little critters and the frogs out front in the lily pond were an exciting change of scenery for the kids. (We specifically came to see the fireflies because we have none here in L.A., lol) And I shouldn't forget to say that Vista is way less than an hour from Gettysburg; less than an hour and a half from Frederick, Harper's Ferry and Washington D.C. (although I'd take the train there from Frederick if I had to do it again tho). For the harried professional, I couldn't think of a better place to decompress, unwind and get caught up on paperwork if you're one of those people who has to take your work with you on vacation. The dining room table is massive, the room is cheerful, there is air conditioning and plenty of privacy if you need it. I really hope we can come back, it was just that good.

This house was perfect for our family. The house itself is charming, and has everything you need for a comfortable stay. It is situated in a very private, quiet part of the Maryland countryside, yet it is near to so many interesting and beautiful sites. Harper's Ferry, Gettysburg, Baltimore, are all just a short, easy, drive away. Near to town with good shopping for essentials. The kitchen is amazing if you want to cook, but if not, there are many great restaurants nearby. The wildlife is magical and to top it off, It takes about 2 minutes of chatting with the hosts for you to want to be their friends forever. Such nice people! Thank you for a very memorable stay!
