“A Great Place To Stay” Having stayed in a lot of lodging in alaska Soldotna area in the past 15 years I would have to say that a cabin by the pond was the most comfortable.Alaska is a great place to visit fish and explore. To enjoy the true alaska experience you need to pace yourself. You will need a week minimum. If you are a keen fisherman by all means do a one day king, halibut and a fly out silver and that's it.Take a break between days because it will exhaust you.Check the tides for clamming great fun day out.Fish from the beach on Whiskey Gulch and anchor point only one hour south from Soldotna.Use herring and salmon belly for bait you would be surprised what you can catch. Best public fishing areas I would have to say head back over the bridge and up towards Murphys lane.(Go a little above that to the public area)Nice quite spot up there great silver red and monster rainbow(on salmon eges)Great Silver fishing down at Cunningham Park(need a good 5-6oz weight to hold you in the current)If you want to catch fish in alaska in the public areas. Be on the water at 6.30am and you will be done by 9.00am or 9.00 pm to 12.00 midnight and have a sleep in the morning.Hey its your vacation but from 9am to 9pm things can get a little too busy on the river for me.Thats why I will head south for beach fishing or north on the Russian River or a day trip to Seward or Homer. Flight discounts probably the best deal is with alaska airlines.Get the visa signature card and a partner can fly for $100.Split the cost hey for under $500 your in business.Car rental.I use aBC motor homes 3 mins from anchorage airport. They pick you up and a lot cheaper than airport prices. Before you go check out the "Alaska Outdoor Journal" website for real time up dates on fishing updates regulations..But above all if you stay at "A Cabin By the Pond" you are right in the middle of it all.Great place to stay highly recommend it. Have fun all the best Murph

“Seward-great accommodations” We stayed in the Seward Birdhouse while visiting our daughter who is working on Fox Island. The house is clean, cozy and centrally located. Walking downtown and to the harbor was very easy and the view from the front of the house was a lovely view of Resurrection Bay. Carol left a bunch of coupons for different establishments in town. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen was fully equipped to cook if you wanted to do that. Was a memorable experience!

“Amazing property on the Kasilof river !” There are places that you would like to return to year after year. This is one of these places. Carole has a first class property right on the Kasilof river. I used the apartment as my home base since it is so close and centrally located to all the places that I love to spend time at. Homer, Kenai, Clam Gulch and many more. We felt that when we came back from a long day of fishing , clam digging, or sightseeing that we were coming home. I can still remember the taste of the fresh salmon , halibut or other foods that we cooked on the huge deck at the apartment after a successful day of fishing. And some days just staying in relaxing and unplugging with a good book or watching the boats catching salmon as they drift by. I wish that I can make a return trip to the Hiada-way on the river very soon. Carole thank you for all the cherished memories and making your property feel like "home". That is something that hotels just don't do. Colt

“Wonderful convenient location with excellent breakfast” We really enjoyed our stay, a wonderful breakfast was cooked each morning for a great start to our day. Spent a day at Denali, visited Hatcher's Pass and panned for gold, went to Alyeska and rode the tram and ate lunch, visited the reindeer farm where the kids were able to pet many animals, visited the muskox farm and much more. My family really enjoyed it. There is also a washer/dryer if you need to do some laundry. There was also a large Walmart within 20 mile drive for anything you may have forgot to pack. Mary and her husband were great hosts.
