Description from owner

Description

The Anchorage is a spacious four bedroom house that we would like to offer as a self-service holiday cottage with all modern amenities. This is our family home and we would like the house to be enjoyed, inviting everyone to forge pleasant memories here as we have done over the years. The Anchorage has three double bedrooms and one single, as well as a large kitchen with dining area, a living room and front porch, and bathroom with both bath and shower. This would be ideal for families or large groups of friends looking for a relaxing holiday, but is equally suitable for those preferring to keep busy as the surrounding area hosts numerous tourist sites and activities for all ages.

The Anchorage is located on the small and picturesque island of Scalpay, a small island on the East side of Harris, looking towards Skye. The island itself is roughly 4km long with a bridge to the main island of Harris and a small village at its heart. A simple local shop can be found here, as well as a fantastic cafe/restaurant which we can personally recommend as providing excellent food and a fantastic friendly service throughout the day. The cafe also provides a takeaway menu and runs special curry nights too. Scalpay also holds a lighthouse on its eastern shore, accessible via a hillwalking trail.

Across the bridge to Harris, the town of Tarbert is only a ten-minute drive. The town holds several local grocery shops, restaurants and bars, as well as the very popular Harris Tweed shop. A ferry arrives here every day, sailing from Uig, Skye. Past Tarbert to the South can be found Skoon art cafe, Scarista golf course and several picturesque beaches on the Western shores. To the North, a forty-five minute drive leads to Stornoway, where there is a small cinema, two supermarkets and a ferry arriving daily from Ullapool.

The islands are a very popular tourist destination as they hold several attractions such as the Callanish standing stones, numerous hillwalking routes suitable for all abilities, St Kilda day cruises and the Scalloway out-door activity centre to name only a few. The Western Isles has always been a very special holiday location for our family and we hope that it will continue to be so. Now we would like to offer others the opportunity to discover the islands for themselves.

Such a lovely house and location. Everything you could need for self catering and it feels like a real home. Everything is good quality and very clean, kids loved it and we could launch our kayaks from the garden. Parking is a little tricky but the neighbors are friendly and helpful

“Peaceful”

Reviewed 9 Nov 2016

Had the most amazing week here. The weather wasn't brilliant but that didn't bother us. The house was so cosy and very well equipped. My mother in law loved sitting in the conservatory reading and watching the boats. And the kitchen was perfect for big family meals together. There were some stunning walks nearby. All in all we had a perfect holiday here. We will definitely return in the future.

“Scottish Paradise”

Reviewed 24 Sep 2016

The Anchorage Isle of Scalpay what I would call a happy house. Excellent helpful neighbour next door and an island full of pleasant people. Superb bistro practically on doorstep, seafood that one will find hard to beat anywhere. Weather not the best but that did not detract from an otherwise excellent week. No downside rain or shine as sea fishing on Island was without a doubt the best I have ever seen there.
