The recently remodeled Sunset Cottage, a spacious 2 level house, can accommodate up to 10 people. For special occasions or retreats, it can accommodate more people. Please discuss this with us further. This makes it the perfect place for a family vacation or larger get-togethers like reunions, retreats or bicycle tour groups. It’s located in a quite neighborhood and sits on the edge of a rock rim, overlooking the town of Mitchell and the hills in the distance. The Lookout spot in the garden is one of the best places to watch the gorgeous sunsets. The lovingly decorated cottage features 3 cozy bedrooms, 2 modern bathrooms, and a large dormitory for up to 10 additional guests.Each bed has high quality mattresses and down comforters. cotton linen is provided. The bathrooms are stocked with organic soap, shampoo and conditioner and plenty of fluffy towels. The remodeled country kitchen has everything needed from culinary pots and pans, chef knifes, artsy dishes and a good selection of herbs and spices to whip up a fantastic meal. A brand new stove/oven has recently been added and a dishwasher is provided too. The dining area can seat up to 8 and there are more outdoor dining areas in the garden under the old apricot trees. The living room with a comfy sofa bed for 2 ,has a large flat screen HD TV and a DVD player with an international movie collection for your entertainment. In the colder season, the iron cast wood stove will be well stocked with firewood and kindling to make a cheerful fire.
The downstairs dormitory features six custom made twin beds, a bunk bed, and 2 pull out sofa beds. All bedding is provided. The brand new washroom has 2 slate tiled shower stalls and toilets. The dormitory and attached hangout area have high quality ceramic tile flooring and a glass sliding door that leads right into the yard to the overlook spot with a great landscape vista The hangout place has a stereo system, and a HD flat-screen smart TV. Free Starlink Wifi is available throughout the house. The small building outside, the Rose Tree Gallery, a former garage and workshop, has been remodeled to a small art and meditation studio with wooden floor and large glass panels. It can be used for various classes or courses, a presentation, or just a get together on rainy days.
The Painted Hills, one of the 7 Wonders of Oregon , are only 10 minutes away by car. The other units of the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument are easily reached driving the "Journey through Time Scenic Byway. The Painted Hills Scenic Bike way brings many bicyclists to the region.
The area is famous for it's ancient history and it's geological significance on a global scale. Breathtaking vistas around every bend of the road await you and the hiking is great! Abundance of wild life, birds, and stars in the night skies make this area so very special.
