About Saint Louis, Missouri

Where Saint Louis now stands was once a central point of Native American Mississippian culture. There were temples and sacred places throughout the area. Some descendants still visit them today.

The Europeans discovered the area in 1673, but the city wasn't built for another hundred years. Since then, it's grown at a rapid pace and has become a thriving center for businesses and tourists alike.

There's plenty to do and see in the city, but if you're looking for a relaxing break near nature you don't have to venture far. There's lush forests on the outskirts.

However, we'd suggest sticking to the city if you want a bit of excitement – the Delmar Loop is famous worldwide for being the entertainment center of Missouri. It's worth spending an entire day there exploring the stores, the bars and a museum or two.

What to do

As any Judy Garland fan knows, St Louis was famous for the fair. While it's grown a bit since then, and isn't there all year round, it's a great attraction! Visit around Independence Day and you'll be able to see it and celebrate the city's birthday in style!

But don't worry, there's plenty to do for the rest of the year too.

Shoot up 630ft in an elevator to get to the top of the Gateway Arch. You'll have a great view of the city, and you probably won't want to come down!

Take the kids to the Magic House – Missouri's first interactive museum. You'll even get to stand in a replica of the Oval Office and climb a three-story beanstalk.

Embrace Saint Louis' culture by strolling through the Missouri Botanical Garden, visiting the art galleries and losing yourself in the culture of Forest Park. It's fantastic!
