Description

Featured in Sunday Times January 2022 - One of the top 30 Self Catering Gites in France & Sunday Times January 2018 - One of the top 20 gites in France :

'....sits at the heart of village life serving up southern France in all its glorious, sunlit simplicity. Antique bedsteads, window box geraniums and baguettes from round the corner are all part of the scene here. So, too, is a magnificent array of beaches & ancient monuments....'

Maison des Fleurs is an 18th century stone artisan's cottage lovingly restored as a gite with exposed beams, wood burning stove and sunny balcony where you can sit with a glass of wine and watch village life go by. Situated in the village of Thezan des Corbieres, this part of the Languedoc has a superb micro climate making the summers very hot and the winters moderate - there is also so much to do in this region that you can holiday here any time of the year. This is a wine growing village and abounds in glorious vineyards just right for relaxing strolls in the sun. Thezan des Corbieres is only 27 miles from Carcassonne or Beziers airport and 30 minutes from a choice of 44 local beaches; only 6 km away is a beautiful river where local and tourists swim. Situated in the heart of Cathar country the area has many Chateaux, Abbeys and Cathar ruins to explore.Thezan des Corbieres is a thriving little village that has all the amenities necessary for a relaxing holiday, the Boulangerie doubles as a well stocked grocery store whilst the Tabac sells a variety of things - including stamps; there is also a Brocante (Antique/Junk shop), an Estate Agent and a Bar/Restaurant which serves lunches and 3 course evening meals. There is also a pizzeria/bar in the village square where you can sit and eat or takeaway a pizza.Maison des Fleurs is a tiny artisans cottage set out on three floors. The ground floor has a sparkling new kitchen and dining area, the table seats four; there is a separate toilet and sink on this floor. The middle floor has a shower room and a lounge complete with sunny balcony and the top floor has a double bedroom and a tiny single bedroom - this really is tiny, the bed is adult size but we do recommend the room is only used for young children or for a couple who wish to have separate rooms. The house is really not large enough for three adults. Retaining its original beams and ceiling height some of the top floor is limited in head space but definitely not in character. Due to the increased heat in the summer months we have now added air conditioning to the top floor (2023).

“Lovely little cottage”

Reviewed 14 Sep 2019

We really enjoyed our stay at the cottage , peaceful and relaxing after our daughters wedding in the area. Diane is a splendid host she hits the right balance between being available and not being intrusive. The surrounding area is beautiful and the cottage within easy reach of the beach at Narbonne, Leucate and also Carcassonne which is superb. There is so much to do I wish we had stayed longer. Thank you Diane

“Book via Trip Advisor for better value for money”

Reviewed 31 Dec 2018

We booked this property a year ago through an accommodation site following a rave review in the Sunday Times Travel section. Although the property is in a lovely region with much to explore, we found … More

Response from the owner We are so pleased to see that you obviously fell in love with the region, as we have; it is, as you said, a delightful place to holiday with so much to see and to do. The Sunday Times chose us as one of the top 20 gites in France (2018) and we are thrilled with the accolade, they took into account the outstanding region, the facilities/decoration of the gite and the very competitive pricing, plus all the five star reviews we have collected over the years. In our welcome card, given to every gite guest, we emphasise that we will do anything we can to ensure the holiday is comfortable, to contact us if there are any problems. During your stay you texted me eight times over ten days with various queries, all of which I answered immediately, yet you never ever mentioned anything about the complaints listed in this review, you chose to make them four months after your visit. This is such a shame Carol, I would much preferred to have helped you at the time. During 2018 we had only five star reviews from those who stayed, except for yourself, but I quite understand that decor is a matter of taste.

“Perfect Holiday”

Reviewed 27 Oct 2018

I would totally recommend this house,it's charming owners and it's location to anyone who wants to explore the beautiful region it is located in. Diane is the perfect hostess, very welcoming, thoughtful and informative. The house is so quaint, full of local history but remains comfortable and practical. We loved arriving back to the village and our little house each evening after long days out enjoying the very extensive array of places to visit both inland and coastal. We will definitely return again one day.

Response from the owner I was so surprised to see the guest arrive on a bicycle as he hadn't mentioned his transport, in fact he had ridden all the way from Paris and said he had enjoyed every minute. I am so pleased he likes the area - it is a favourite place for cyclists - and that the cottage was a comfortable base for him.

Response from the owner It's lovely to hear that guests enjoyed the cottage and location so much. The weather has been lovely all Autumn, so that helped make their holiday even more special, but they also appreciated all they saw and really seemed to love France as much as we do. We look forward to welcoming them back.
