Description

Capel Cartref is a newly renovated chapel offering a unique and luxurious space for holidaymakers. The chapel provides a warm and welcoming haven. The gallery hosts a vaulted ceiling with original beams. Pews have been reclaimed and used around the chapel as window sills, kitchen cornices and window shutters. The chapel has been finished to a very high specification with all of the comforts of home. Breakfast and dining can be held in the spacious modern kitchen or on the decked veranda which overlooks River Twrch. Capel Cartref suits people who wish to walk, sightsee, cycle, play golf, pony trek or just kick back and take in a movie on DVD on the 42" plasma. This is the perfect accommodation for family reunions... a spacious property to spend time together without getting under each others feet. The property is within easy reach (via bicycle or car) of Brecon Beacons, Black Mountains, Afan Park and Henrhyd Waterfalls. Also South Wales is host to the beaches of The Gower, Mumbles and Swansea Bay, these are accessible by car.

Getting around

Ideally, guests will have a car in order to make travelling easier. There is a train station in Neath and Swansea but the bus runs only once daily to Neath from Cwmtwrch and so a taxi would most likely be necessary. Most of the places to visit are over a 15 minute drive away. If people want to walk, there are local walks but the best views and experiences, i.e. for waterfalls, rocks, etc. are a further distance away and so require a vehicle. Motorbiking is great in South Wales as lots of the roads covering the Black Mountains and Brecon are unhindered by traffic lights etc.

Interaction with guest

Due to COVID19, Capel Cartref will reopen it's doors as from August 2020 for TWO HOUSEHOLDS only per visit, thus complying with the latest Government Regulations. It is important that guests provide details of their two households, ie names, DoB and home address for purpose of Track and Trace should the NHS require it. This information will be kept secure and on our records for just 21 days after which it will be deleted. To avoid face to face contact, the keys will be kept inside a secure key safe, accessible by a PIN number. All travellers will need to avoid public transport during their visit to Wales, as this service is currently only available to essential workers. (Updated July 2020)

House rules

Where we welcome groups to the chapel, we would also appreciate that the neighbours are respected by keeping the noise down, especially throughout the summer evenings as the sound carries across the river. With regards to smoking, we do not encourage it within the house but accept that people may want to smoke out in garden. This would be ok so long as people safely extinguish the cigarette and dispose of the butts appropriately and NOT in the river. Thank you

“Very good”

Reviewed 12 Aug 2019

Was a lovely place to stay very big and well equipped two toasters and kettles were a big help with 10 of us, was able to have family visit for the evening and we were able to cook a roast dinner for 18 people with the kitchen/dinner being so big! The river behind the house was relaxing. Beds were comfy and lots of storage space for clothes in every bedroom. Hoping to go again soon as it was so nice. However was not able to use TVs up stair much as there was only a few channels so signal must be poor may need new ariels to improve this.

Response from the owner Wow! Thank you for the review, glad you had a lovely few days. Thank you also re the feedback with regards to the TV signals, we can will this looked into as soon as possible as they should all be on FreeSat. We are glad you liked your stay enough to want to come back soon. Thank you for looking after the chapel, you were delightful guests. Kind regards, Yonni and Marnie

“charming chapel”

Reviewed 29 Jun 2019

We had a wonderful stay in the chapel: 6 adults and a toddler and a small dog. The house itself is excellently appointed, and the kitchen and all facilities supplied therein is perfect. The garden is quite small but was perfect with a toddler, and the BBQ supplied was of an excellent size. The river at the back of the garden poses no danger to a small child; one has to get out of the garden where there is a locked gate before one is anywhere near it. The house has everything one could need including lots of board games, books, DVDs etc. The village itself is not especially charming but the nearby town of Ystradgynlais is very nice and picturesque. There is a TESCO and ASDA very nearby, and lots to see. On the odd occasion we had a question, Marnie responded extremely quickly with helpful and friendly answers and couldn't have been a better host. Accessible beaches are quite a drive--around 45 minutes--but they are beautiful and well worth the trip.

Response from the owner Thank you for such an informative and positive review, I am so glad your experience at Capel Cartref was a 'wonderful' one and that it had everything you needed during your stay. The river runs very low during the drier months but can fill up quickly and run rather fast after a good rainfall, hence the secured gates. Ystradgynlais has lots of interesting history and is accessible without a vehicle, we are glad you got to experience it. There is a beach near Swansea Marina which is approximately half hour away, it's sandy but not as picturesque as The Gower beaches. We are very thankful for the way you looked after the chapel during your stay, it means a lot when people take care and respect the property and neighbours. We hope you will return one day soon. Kind regards, Yonni and Marnie
