Description

Harsgeir View - WiFi ( super fast broadband) - Go Green - is now a more environmentally friendly cottage as we now have just installed a new 5 Kw "Ecodan" Air Source Heat Pump which provides hot water and central heating which helps us reduce our Carbon Footprint. This pump helps us to save the equivalent of some 17000 car miles of CO2 emissions each year. We encourage and help all our guests to recycle all their waste and source only locally produced goods in our welcome packs.

Harsgier View is a modernized stand alone cottage on a 10 acre croft in the Village of Hacklete on Great Bernera. It sleeps four people it has one double room with very large 4 poster bed - one twin room and is in an ideal "get away from it all" location for a relaxing holiday.

We are this winter in process of applying for the councils new Short Term Letting Licence ensuring the highest standards of safety and regulation in this ever increasing competitive market of Self Catering in the Hebrides.

Recently upgraded Kitchen to Shaker Style Ivory Units. The cottage now has an Induction Hob and all white goods are A+++ energy efficient. BT Phone line and WiFi access. Wooden flooring throughout is ideal for well behaved pets.

The cottage is on one of the highest points of Bernera which gives it a wide panoramic view of an area which is known for it's outstanding natural beauty. It is close to beaches and coastal and inland walks many of which have been sign posted out by the community. The views pan out to Achmore, Uig and old Hill in Bosta. Harsgeir View is so named because of its view from the kitchen window to the tiny island of Harsgeir in the mouth of West Loch Roag which surrounds Bernera and Uig.

Leave the cottage, walk over the bridge at Valasay, up the side of the Toab Loch and over to the fantastic beach at Bosta were the reconstructed Iron Age house sits on the original archaeological site which was discovered in the 1990's. The finds of this dig can been seen at the community run museum which serves tea and coffee during the summer. Bird watchers and wildlife lovers are regular visitors to the cottage, Seals, Buzzards and even Otters are known to inhabit the immediate location. Use our tripod and zoom binocular to sport the most distant of birds.

You are welcome to use the fishing rods in the cottage if you fancy a spot of rock fishing also a Tripod and Supper Zoom Scope for bird watching. The cottage is well stocked with books and games if you fancy a stay in day.

My wife and I have been letting this cottage for some 15 years now all our feedback so far has been positive. Contact us and we will post you out our very useful and comprehensive tourist/visitor pack of maps and information leaflets so that you can start planning your holiday even before you arrive. “Bliss”

Reviewed 10 Sep 2023

Spent a fabulous week at Harsgeir View. Cottage felt like a home from home, clean, comfortable and everything you need to relax. Arrived to a lovely welcome pack from Calum which was greatly appreciated. Loved the remote location, so quiet and peaceful, slept very well. Fab sunrises. Good Wi-Fi too! The dog LOVED the croft leading right down to the sea, we would sit taking in the view and letting the wind blow away the cobwebs. What a place to destress. If you take a dog it’s worth taking a long line as it is sheep country and they jump fences lol. We watched them jump in and out. We were fortunate to be on the island during a week of wonderful weather. So many amazing beaches to visit, Bosta Beach only 10 minutes from the cottage is a lovely little spot. We covered most of the island from the Butt of Lewis to Leverburgh on the south coast of Harris. Luskentyre is every bit as beautiful as it looks in photos. But there are other beaches equally as nice. Reef beach is about 30 minutes away and it’s stunning. If you’ve never been to the Isles you must go! Top tip - Remember to stock up on groceries before you go to the cottage and also remember no shops open on a Sunday. I can’t wait to go back :) Photo of the sunrise from the cottage. Perfect.
