“Cold March-Warm Cottage”

Reviewed 18 Apr 2011

My family and I spend three days in the Painted Hills Cottage this March and couldn't have been happier. While we were driving there, we were worried about the weather and thought we might have made a mistake by choosing Eastern Oregon for our spring break, but once we arrived and opened the door to the sweet house, all our doubts vanished. You could feel the love from the owners for this place with all the rooms being so cozy, the beds being exceptional comfy, and the kitchen very well stocked with everything we needed to cook up some memorable meals. Every day we've got dressed warm and headed out for a new adventure in this amazing area. Our trip to the Blue Basin at the Sheep Rock unit of the national Monument was very special and we saw quite a bit of wildlife including a small herd of antelope. We kept going back to the Painted Hills, which were simply beautiful in every daytime and lighting. After the second day we felt like coming home already every time we turned the key in the lock of "our” cottage. We will definitely come back here. Roland and family

Response from the owner We're glad that you enjoyed your stay in spite of rain and cold. We agree, the Painted Hills Cottage is a very unique place, no matter what the weather. Many past guests have commented about feeling at home here and we keep working at it to make it better and better. There are always new ideas, new garden projects ( we planted two more apple trees, and are making another stone path with natural rock found in the area), and new friends - our guests who keep returning, and spread the word!. Come back again and see it in another season. Aruna and Barb Jacobi

“Wonderful tranquil resting place amidst inspiring natural beauty”

Reviewed 18 Apr 2011

Landscape Photographer's Paradise ! What a special place surrounded by such a magic landscape! We, two hobby photographer friends came all the way from Cologne, Germany to visit the beautiful states of Oregon, Washington and California on a two month trip. One of our highlights was to stay in this great cottage in Oregon high desert near the Painted Hills on our way east to Hell Canyon. We originally reserved the place only for two days from the 2nd till the 4th of April, but decided to add another 2 days because there was so much to see in the region and the cottage was so great. We took some amazing pictures of the Painted Hills, and the Clarno pillar formations, and along the John Day River. Thanks to the well informed owners we got lots of great tips were to go for some very unusual shots. Ask for the way to the Priest Hole! Wonderful details in the house, the gardens and the caring service made the visit so pleasant. A nice, tranquil resting place on our journey, while at the same time so inspiring from all the beautiful landscapes and natural monuments all around!!!

“Romantic/ Adventures get-away”

Reviewed 16 Apr 2011

I have always had a fondness for Eastern Oregon and its rugged, beautiful terrain. I am an avid fossil seeker and have found some unbelievable treasures This year I stayed in the Jacobi's vacation rentals and have to say that this enhanced our experience tremendously. The cottage was clean, comfortable and charming. We enjoyed the hospitality of aruna- the owner , who was not only filled with valuable information, but was also a pleasure to meet. This mini vacation went beyond out expectation and we had a wonderful time.

Response from the owner Thank you for your kind words. We always enjoy to hear from guests, especially when they really throw themselves into the adventure of it all. Eastern Oregon and it's geological wonderland landscapes are still unknown to many people. We hope to change that and hope to share this great little secret with many more travelers in the future.
