“Unique and fun...”
The caboose was everything we had hoped for coming from Po'ipu Beach Kaua'i. Recommended for people who enjoy new adventures in lodging.
Response from the owner Thanks. We will see you next time we are in Kauai.
“Perfect Place for a Railroad History Buff”
If you are a train buff, don't you want to try the incredible experience of staying in a caboose? The restored caboose has many amenities including a kitchenette, deck with a barbecue, beautiful surroundings, DVD player and tv, and a lovely family as hosts. It has been refurbished nicely with an especially comfortable bed. Close to beautiful Yosemite and Bass Lake, there are many activities for every family member to enjoy. All aboard!
Response from the owner Thanks Sue for a wonderful review. I really enjoyed spending time sharing stories with you and your husband. Hope to see you soon,to take in the sights of the baby otter nursery.
We had such a wonderful stay. After hiking all day in Yosemite it was nice to have a place to be able to relax and enjoy the evening out on the deck. The caboose was very nice and enjoyed all the amenities. Staying in the caboose was one of the highlights of our vacation! Thank you!
“Awesome Stay on the "Little Red Caboose"”
We loved our stay on the "Little Red Caboose", it was close to the South Entrance of Yosemite. The inside was the perfect size for our family of four with the loft up top for our youngest daughter and the futon for our teenage daughter. We had everything we needed for a perfect extended weekend stay, from a full size bathroom to grilling on the deck. The view is amazing and the nights relaxing out on the deck were perfect after our long day of hiking in the park. Thank you to Rusty and his family for this unique stay on the "Little Red Caboose"!
Response from the owner Thank you Michelle, I only wish we had more time to visit with you and your family.
“We will be back”
I wanted a unique experience for my grandchildren. Quite frankly, tired of the same old hotel room. The kids loved the Red Caboose, exploring all aspects of it and wondering if it was "real." Oh yes, it is real on the outside, but the inside has been transformed into absolutely charming place - jacuzzi tub, beautiful tile flooring in bathroom, reading loft that became the boys private spot. The boys love exploring the surroundings, including a nearby river/stream. The owners make you feel like family, helping with trip info, hikes info and in any way that they can. And talk about 2 adorable daughters. They showed the boys where to go to explore, what to avoid. We even had smores one night at their home. The area is peaceful, quiet and made it hard to get moving in the morning. Love the coffee and breakfast on the deck. Did not get to do all we wanted to do, so when we return to Yosemite, we will be staying at the Red Caboose.
Response from the owner Thank you very much.
“Unique and Fun Family Experience!”
Our entire experience was positive - pre, during, and post our stay! The owner is extremely knowledgeable of the Yosemite area. I emailed him multiple questions about Yosemite and he graciously helped guide us to the best areas of the park to make the most of our visit. Upon arrival, the accommodations were perfect - clean and roomy with all the necessary kitchen equipment and supplies needed to make yourself at home. They even welcomed us with a nice note and some chocolate. Our son enjoyed playing outdoors in the evenings while our daughter caught up on reading inside the caboose. My husband and I relaxed on the deck. With a grocery store a short drive away, we were able to grill dinner one night and pack lunches for our day trips. We also enjoyed a couple local restaurants recommended by the owner and were not disappointed! Another bonus was the very comfortable mattress which made for a nice restful sleep after a long day of hiking. Throughout our stay, the owner was accessible and helpful - even lending us a comprehensive map and pair of binoculars to use in Yosemite. Following our visit, the owner took the time to send a thank you email, which was very thoughtful.
“Excellent value and peace of mind”
We found this rental to be located in a very quaint and peaceful location. The ambiance and the tranquility were well worth the money paid. The inside of the Caboose is modern and has all the accommodations that were needed. As an individual with a bad back, beds can make or break a trip. The Queen size bed was fitted with an absolutely top line mattress in which I was able to sleep very soundly. The Caboose is a must stay for anyone looking to stay in the Old West yet live with modern living accommodations.
