Facing south and overlooking sweeping lawns to hay meadows and the River Swale. The house provides spacious, comfy accommodation is ideal for walking holidays, large family gatherings and celebrations or for just relaxing by the open fires and catching up with friends. The house was recently refurbished, including new kitchen and bathrooms but it still retains all the charm and character of a bygone era, with well proportioned rooms, high corniced ceilings and antique marble fireplaces. The ground floor comprises a sitting room, dining room, snug, spacious bootroom, wet room, kitchen and pantry. A total of 8 bedrooms (2 with en suite bathrooms) and 3 house bathrooms are spread over the first and second floors, there are 12 beds in total, all made up with crisp white bed linen. fluffy bath, hand and guest towels and soaps are provided. Back on the ground floor, the kitchen, with Aga cooker, is well equipped with loads of storage space, an extra fridge and freezer in the pantry and second dishwasher in the boot room. The dining room comfortably accommodates 14 people around the main table - great for those special meals with friends and family that always create lasting memories. There's a small second table if you have a larger group and our caterers can arrange dining for 24 if required but please get in touch with us to organise this. The sitting room, dining room and snug all have open fires. Televisions are provided in both the sitting room and snug. The spacious boot / utility room has a sink, 2nd dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer and plenty of space for drying outdoor gear. Your 4 legged best friend(s) are welcome too and the boot room is a great place for dog beds. Please ask to see our terms and conditions for dogs and please let us know if you are bringing them. Outside there's a super front patio and a west patio with BBQ. The sloping lawn and path leads down to a flat lawn for Croquet (Hazel Brow rules) or for locating a marquee if you want to entertain from the house (please enquire for details). If you don't want to cook our local chef is pleased to discus menus with you or we're just 5 minutes walk from the local 'Gastro pub'. Trout fishing is available in season. Swaledale is well known for its magnificent scenery, from our Heather moorlands, to species rich hay meadows. Swaledale is popular with walkers, and cyclists or those just wanting a peaceful break.

England's highest Inn is just 11 miles by road or 6 miles on foot.

Getting around

We're in a quiet rural location but are fortunate to have an excellent community transport network. The Little White Bus runs a shuttle service up and down the Dale:- an excellent way to head upstream to the village of Keld and walk back down the valley, following England's fastest flowing river, as it tumbles it's way through amazing scenery and past quaint villages and hamlets. Stop off for lunch or refreshments at the village pub in Muker or Gunnerside.

Interaction with guest

We're usually around to hand over the keys and then leave you to it! We live in the village so are only a phone call away if needed. We can suggest good routes for pub walks or the best eating places - just get in touch if you need us.
