“good value for money but too small for 5 people”

Reviewed 5 Aug 2015

We are a family of 5 and found this place a bit too small for us. There are only two chairs in the kitchen and no place to sit down for more than 2 people at a time for any meal. The neighbors are all local residents - which we liked. The look from the balcony goes onto a tennis court which was not in use auring our stay. You can get a glimpse of he sea in the distance and get there in 5 min but the beach is not suitable for swimming - strong weaves and currents make it very unsafe. What drove me nuts where the chickens (roosters) that live in the coconut grove and made a hell of a noise from 4 am. Since there is no air condition you will have toy keep the windows open - bring ear plugs! The location of the flat is very good. You have shops and restaurants close by and both the southern and the northern beaches can be reached within less than an hour drive. If you are on a budget, don't mind the limited dining space and if you want to have a "home base" from where you start your day trips rather than a "vacation home" in which you stay for most of the time of your vacation then I can recommend this place.

Response from the manager Mahalo for your review. We do agree that the location of this apartment can't be beat. Centrally located between the north and south shores, walking distance to shops and restaurants and the ocean. We always recommend life guarded beaches such as Lydgate Beach Park to the south or Kealia Beach to the north, both less than 2 miles away. There are 2 spare folding dining chairs in the bedroom closet along with another chair on the lanai. The price can't be beat at less than $89 per night plus tax and cleaning for this 2 bedroom, 1.5 bath apartment. For 5 people, particularly if adults, a 2 bedroom with 1.5 baths can definitely be tight. A full kitchen, complimentary wifi and parking is included at Village Manor.

“Excellent! Would stay again for sure”

Reviewed 3 Jul 2015

The laundry could use some updating! Had to inquire about wifi code, needs to be posted. More bath towels would have been nice! Our week stay was wonderful! We had 3 condos there and each were nice and different and unique in their own way! Excellent service when our garbage disposal broke!!!!

“Great property, great island”

Reviewed 9 Apr 2014

Great condo with plenty of space. Clean and stayed cool day and night! Three minute walk to the beach and ten minute walk to hotels like kauai coast and aston islander down the road (we had friends staying down there). Really close to town, grocery stores, many restaurants, and great swimming/sunbathing beaches. All the towels you could need and snorkel gear and boogie board rental places were just a quick walk down the street. We had a great time and would definitely stay there again!

“We loved Kaui, not the roosters”

Reviewed 8 Mar 2014

We explored the island from this location. We had all the amenities for cooking, it is comfortable for 4 people. The presence of several roosters in the environment disturbs the sleep of all residents. We loved Kaui for landscapes, canyons, hills and heat.

“Affordable, walk to many locations”

Reviewed 13 Feb 2014

We booked late at a fabulous resort by Garden Island Properties and were not able to finish our stay there due to lack of availability. Many thanks to Garden Island for finding us a couple of days at this place. It is certainly affordable with good, cozy space and we could walk to shopping and to the beach. It is not ocean view, the front overlooks a parking lot and the back overlooks a tennis court. The walk to the beach is past the tennis court, past another parking lot and past another development. We loved having two bedrooms and another half bath for this price. The kitchen was quite usable. The WiFi was easily accessible and fast enough for our student who had online classes. It felt like a little apartment with downstairs renters who had loud visitors one midnight. The roosters were very present. I even heard a couple of them at 1230 one night having a crowing battle. I had to wonder why we didn't hear the roosters at the other resort and we heard them so loudly here. I would have liked it a little cleaner. There was a sign asking us to keep our shoes off but I could not due to the kitchen floor feeling so sticky. We kept all dishes and counters immediately clean due to the ants and since we saw a roach. It was not bad, we just contrasted it with the other lovely place where we had just been. If you need a place to crash, fix meals and then head out to wherever you want to go, this should do very nicely. And it is walking distance to the beach. If you want to sip your drink, sit back, watch the ocean and head to the pool with your towel, keep looking.

Response from the manager Mahalo for your review of the Coconut Beachside Apartment. We do agree that this is a cozy affordable beach apartment. Definitely not a resort; as there is no pool, hot tub or gas grills advertised here. Easy walking distance to the shops, restaurants and the beach and no ocean views advertised here either :) We do offer other places with pools and oceanfront views, but if looking for an affordable 2 bedroom with no frills but a full kitchen and complimentary wifi, this would be it. We do apologize for the kitchen floors; we would have had housekeeping come in had we known about it during your stay. Aloha and mahalo!

“Affordable, good location, lots of ants”

Reviewed 11 Jan 2014

my friend, her 18 month old and I were looking for affordable accommodation in kapaa and found this apartment. pros: extremely affordable for 2-bedroom apartment, amazing location for convenience (can walk to grocery stores, cafes, etc.), close to the beach (although not really swimming in that area, but nice to walk along), wonderful location for the island itself to get north and south, parking, quiet location, towels/dishes/appliances, nice little balcony, great ceiling fans, free wi-fi and cable. cons: older bathrooms, not the cleanest place - it looked like no one had been in it in a while and there were cobwebs in many corners, so many ants (in the bathroom, in the bedroom, in our beds (!), etc.) and the occasional cockroach. now, we realize were in a tropical place and there would be bugs, of course. but we were extremely careful about eating and cleaning up (we usually ate outside with the baby so as not to leave anything in the apartment itself) and there were still ants everywhere -- in our beds !?!? basically, we were looking for a good price though and location, so we weren't completely put-off by this, we're in the outdoors a lot and used to it, etc. but just know that if these kinds of things freak you out, it might be better to look somewhere else. neighbors were friendly, walls are very thin and can hear lots but we didn't have a problem with that. like regular apartment living. overall, we both agreed we would stay there again if that's what we were looking for. just be prepared for affordable and convenient, not luxury.

Response from the manager Mahalo for your review. Yes the Coconut Grove Beach Apartment is definitely an affordable beach side accommodation with easy walking to shops and restaurants. We do treat our units on a regular basis for pests and the ants are currently under control. Like any place in the tropics, leaving food out uncovered is not an option. There is a refrigerator to store perishables as well. Mahalo nui loa!....

“fantastic...”

we were very surprised at how great this place was...the location couldn't have been better...everything we needed was available to make this place a home away from home...the only thing that was funny was we had our 91 year old aunt from florida with us and she got up with those chickens every morning...it never failed it could be 3 or 4 in the a.m...all in all we had a great time here and would recommend this place to our friends and family...thank you very much...

“Just right”

Reviewed 5 Jul 2013

Our stay at the Coconut Grove was just right. The location was central to many great beaches and activities. The neighbors were helpful and friendly. I loved that we were neighbors in a complex and not one of a hundred visitors who happened to be staying in the same vacation destination. It felt local. The only downsides were the roosters who lived next door in the grove (and one is never free of roosters on Kauai) and the lack of wireless. It existed; we just couldn't log on. I appreciated the kitchen and all the appointments (blender for smoothies!).

“You get what you pay for”

Reviewed 13 Jun 2013

If you're looking for cheap accommodation close to the beach, then this condo will be just fine. That is if price is your only criteria. My biggest complaint was the neighbors. The walls are paper thin, so be prepared to hear everything. The people below are residents and it is a family with two small children. They regularly had loud arguments in a foreign language late at night. The kids were either screaming or crying at all hours day and night. When the family wasn't yelling, the woman was playing piano and singing opera (no kidding) very badly. They also fed the chickens. You are not supposed to do that because dozens of them were hanging out under our windows constantly brawking and cackling. The family next door (also residents) had a crying baby and worked nights. Twice they left with their alarm clock still going (at midnight). As for the condo itself, it was a great size for 2 people, but would be crowded for more than that. The carpets are nice and the ceiling fans wonderful. The upgrades to the kitchen are very good and it is well stocked with everything you need. I just wish the upgrades continued in the bathroom. The countertops are new but the shower and toilet are way past due for replacing. The shower doors were just plain gross - I don't think any amount of cleaning was going to get the grime out of them. The TV is nice and new, but the beds are very old and not good for bad backs. There are a lot of nice little extras, however, like beach towels, a drink cooler, chairs, etc. The beach actually is a very short easy walk away (about a minute or two stroll). It's not much of a swimming beach there but it is nice to walk down. Final verdict? It just depends on what you're looking for and what's more important - value or peace and quiet?
