Description from owner
Description
4 miles from downtown Lexington on 250 acres. The DeHart Cabin c.1860, is our only 2.5 bedroom cabin. The main room, the original cabin, is a 'all-in-one' with walnut and chestnut logs, a fireplace of river stone, a sleeper sofa, kitchenette, antique farm dining table and sideboard. Overhead is the 'loft' with drop down stairs for an adventurous youngster. The loft, seldom used by modern folks, would have slept an entire family in 1860.
The main bedroom has a Q bed, antique dresser and double french doors opening onto a private deck with seasonal views of the Maury River. The front bedroom has a Full bed with a 1917 solid brass frame. There is an additional Single bed in a small side room (no door) ideal for a child or younger person.
* Dog friendly with prior approval only and full agreement with our dog policy.
Surrounded by woods, meadow and a hay field, DeHart is at the end of an internal road. Fully furnished and outfitted it is ideal for a couple or a shared stay with children or good friends. $175 / night single/double occupancy, $20 per person for more than two. No more than four people. Satellite TV/DVD/CD. Kitchenette: 3/4 stove, refrigerator, microwave, drip coffee maker, dishes, pots and pans, stainless steel gas grill and firewood supplied during the season - everything you need.
With an acre of mown meadow to the north, woods to the south and a hay field to the west, this cabin will give you just what you are coming here for... relaxation & tranquility. The private back deck has two Adirondack chairs with footstools, a picnic table with an umbrella and gas grill. Sitting on the back deck watching the sun set over the hay field is pure delight.
A nice walk up an old farm logging road will take you to our modern day labyrinth with stunning 360 degree views of both mountain ranges. This is not to be missed! Across the entry road to the farm is the 7 mile Chessie Trail. Only 4 miles to historic downtown Lexington, excellent restaurants, gift shops, Virginia Horse Ctr and much much more.
The 250 acre farm is magical! Come stay & receive its gifts ...

“Absoutely perfect! A relaxing, magical, peaceful hideaway”
Our stay in the DeHart cabin was just fantastic! Although built in 1860, it was very well appointed and extremely comfortable. We loved everything - the layout (one floor and all opening on to a cen… More

“Perfect family getaway! (but beware of the rat poison)”

Response from the owner Hello Anna Mae, We are thrilled you enjoyed your stay at our DeHart Cabin. It has been a guest favorite for many years. Thank you for your feedback about the mouse deterrent. Maintaining a barrier between our guests and an occasional field mouse seeking warmth can be challenging this time of year. Though effective, we are already looking for ways that are more "green" and family friendly. The safety of our guests both 2-legged and 4-legged is of utmost importance to us. We hope to welcome your family again to our "piece of Shenandoah heaven". Each season has its gifts to explore here on the farm:)

Response from the owner Dear Guest, I am so sorry your stay with us was not as hoped. I wanted you to know we value your feedback and make every effort to provide a safe, welcoming and peaceful stay for each guest. All of the issues that were raised have been addressed starting with the replacing of all locks on the cabin. We do appreciate you alerting us to the water pressure issue. Upon investigation, we found that one of the underground pipes had broken... a first in thirteen years. It was fixed immediately. Please know that this was not a usual guest experience. We have consistently received rave reviews for many years with steady guests returning year after year. Best, Management Team
