“Oasis”

Reviewed 19 Jun 2015

Brett and Britta have created a tranquil paradise up in the desert. Imagine waking up to the chatter of birds, the noise of a light breeze rustling the trees, a view of a mountain ahead of you. You wake up in your casita, make a cup of tea or coffee and amble outside onto the verhanda to embrace the day. It is deliciously tranquil. After a beverage you put on your swim suit and gently make your way up to the pool to swim and relax. You have the whole day to read, relax. The offer of heading into San Jose is always there but to be honest, on your first day in this special oasis that Brett and Britta have created, you'll want to forget the busy life that you have and just be ....

“If you want to return to find inner peace, serenity and restoration, this is it.”

Reviewed 5 Jun 2015

Met at the airport by Brett and Britta. Fridge full with all that we had asked for. The cottage we stayed in was immaculate and it was so good to be in the serenity and peace of this little peace of heaven. It was hard to leave the pool which is such a nice place to swim and hang out at. Looking at the sunset from the pool and the sunrise from the little verandah on our casita and always with the Mt. Lasuro in the background. The bird life and the quiet was so restoring. Love it, love it, love it.

“unsurpassed hospitality”

If you are looking for a tranquil location, gracious hosts, and a real, non glitzy, experience, this is a great place to stay. Our hosts welcomed us with dinner the first night, and birds and their black lab greeted us in the morning. How does it get any better?

“More authentic Mexican experience.”

Reviewed 23 Jan 2015

With the help of Brett and Britta, staying at Rancho de la Sierra is a much more authentic Mexican experience than staying at a resort. Not only do you get to experience more of the Baja flora and fauna, but they helped us interact with locals in a way we couldn't have on our own. We learned some of the cultural norms so we weren't insulting at the grocery store, and they gave us tips on where to go to get more authentic experiences. The ranch is a beautiful place and is well kept by the hosts. The cabins are well stocked, neat, clean and in good working order. It is quiet and peaceful day and night and is a fantastic place to recharge your batteries and get away from it all.

“Return trip after Hurricane Odile...better than before !!”

Reviewed 13 Jan 2015

A couple of friends and I headed back here in early December. We had originally planned to be there in late fall, however due to the hurricane our trip was delayed. From the first time I had the pleasure of spending time at this "little piece of paradise", to this last visit, things have changed a bit, but the new roof on the party Palapa is fantastic and the additional sandy beach area by the pool was perfect for all of us to kick back and enjoy the sunshine. The landscape is as beautiful and unique as it was before, and I will be back again and again. This is the perfect little spot to spend your vacation OR add to your vacation on the Baja, you will experience nothing like it. Thanks again Britta and Brett, you really are the "best hosts ever" !!!

“An incredible and unique experience in baja...we'll be back”

Staying at Rancho de la Sierra is an incredible experience. This place is so unique we expect that it will be part of our stay every time we return to the cape area. While the property is only about 10 or 15 minutes drive from the airport, it feels like another world. You head north a short distance on the highway and then turn off on a dirt road. (One of the owners can arrange to meet you at a Pemex and show you the way.) You pass through a desert landscape with beautiful mountain views before climbing to the top of a hill where the cottages are located. The desert plants are much denser than I would have expected, which makes the cottages seem even more private. And the mountain views from the property are incredible. The cottages have nice and well-equipped kitchens with stove, ample fridge space, 2-burner stove, coffee-maker (no filters needed), microwave, utensils, dishes, pots and pans, etc. The places are spotlessly clean with nice linens and firm beds. There is a private patio in front of each cottage with lounge furniture and table and chairs. There are plenty of windows that connect the inside with the landscape outside…and allow the sounds of the desert in. Brett and Britta make the experience even more special with their recommendations, great conversation and level of service. We hated to leave and we can’t wait to go back.

“Fabulous Post Hurricane Experience”

Reviewed 18 Nov 2014

Our journey began in early September when I found the listing on Flipkey. I was looking for a week’s relaxation away from the tourist strip to follow a week stay in La Paz. And then Hurricane Odile happened Sept. 14th. Should we come? Could we get there? Twenty-one emails later and after a 34 hour travel ‘day’ we were met at the airport by Britta and Brett, smiling and offering a cold one. This was the start of 15 incredible days in this desert paradise. Prior to our arrival our hosts had worked so very hard to prepare for our stay. The casita was freshly painted, the grounds cleared up and manicured and the pool was ready. Britta had pre-stocked the fridge which was so welcome and the hospitality, flexibility and generosity of Britta and Brett seemed to grow exponentially as the days passed. They are exceptional hosts. We had decided not to rent a car post hurricane so Brett and Britta offered rides to and from the bus stops. I now know the buses very well, all the ins and outs –Easy! We also enjoyed a days outing at Chelino Beach with Britta and a lazy Sunday drive with Brett touring the small towns on the way to Los Barrillos and were invited to their neighbour’s birthday celebration. We went to the Thursday evening Art Walk opening in San Jose together. And so much more. The Ranch itself is a piece of God’s masterpiece. We woke to the sound of cow bells and orioles tapping at the window not to mention the magnificent sunsets and sunrises. We saw rabbits, a fox, chipmunks, geckos and so much bird life. A naturalist’s dream. So quiet and peaceful. We were privileged to witness the progress of the palapa’s reconstruction and walk the power lines almost daily as the towers were erected piece by piece. Everywhere we went the locals were busy shovelling, cleaning, building with a zeal that defied the devastation and smiling all the while. The Mexicans are a gracious people. How can you help? COME! Are we glad we came? Absolutely. We have been treated to a stay at Rancho de la Sierra that has been beyond words. It has changed us. We look forward to returning and introducing others to this gem. It is not to be missed.

“Relaxation at it's best!”

Reviewed 4 May 2014

From the minute we arrived(Brett and Britta met us at the airport to show us the way) until our departure this was one of the best vacations we have had. This mini resort is in the heart of "real Mexico" just a short drive to shopping, restaurants and beaches. We stayed in a beautiful well equipped, spotless, private Casita and had the pool to ourselves several days while other guests went site seeing. The grounds are beautifully done while keeping the natural feel of the area. We felt like we were staying with friends and were even invited to join them at a special private celebration they were attending. We also had a delicious Valentines Day potluck dinner with Brett and Britta and the other guests at the party palapa beside the pool. There are several large grocery stores just a few kilometers away so having a car is convenient. For a reasonable fee the owners will do a small grocery run before your arrival. The owners were a wealth of knowledge regarding what to see and do in San Jose. If you are looking for a large resort with all the trappings of every other resort, then this may not be for you, but if you want to feel like you have truly visited Mexico, made new friends, seen new things, and enjoyed nature at it's best, relaxed like never before, then this is the place to go. We look forward to returning soon.

“Peaceful sancutary in a beautiful setting in the mountains - ver”

This is an excellent place to stay if your looking for peace and quiet, away from the hustle and bustle of the big hotel scene. Brett and Britta were wonderful hosts, making sure we had everything we needed. The cottages are fully equipped and nicely decorated. We rented a car and drove to some of the most beautiful swimming and snorkeling beaches that I have ever seen. San Jose Del Cabo is close by, with great places to eat and lots of cute shops. We spent a lot of time just hanging out at our cottage or by the pool. There are plenty of large grocery stores close by that have anything you would need. We definitely will return.

“Wow --- what a find!! Wonderful stay!!”

Reviewed 6 Mar 2014

A beautiful spot with complete peace, nature and serenity ... while still containing a wonderful cottage with everything needed for real comfort. Almost silent except for the birds, and the occasional ringing of a cowbell! The beautiful pool area is a treat, and Brett and Britta made us feel so welcome and comfortable. We will be back... Our flight was very delayed, but Britta re-arranged our car rental and both Brett and Britta met us at the airport, and drove back with us to the rancho --- would have been a bit of a challenge to find our way in the dark. We enjoyed the friendly doggies ... although our hosts made sure we were comfortable with them first. Loved the bright colors inside our cottage, everything was new, immaculately clean, and very comfortable.
