“A place of exception”

Reviewed 28 Jul 2015

I was delighted to stay at Casona Palms for two weeks with a few friends. We traveled in the region and the wonderful beach house was our headquarters. Where to begin? The house was perfectly clean, very comfortable and provided a fair internet connection. The location features a breathtaking view on the Caribbean Sea and the possibility to travel in the nearby jungle. Snorkeling is an absolute must in the sea just in front of the house; the underwater wildlife is diverse and the constant bright sky is heavenly. Moreover, our neighbor was a fisherman, which allowed us to get fresh fish on a daily basis for a low price. The surrounding areas are also worth seeing. We took rides to fishing villages and great diving spots on many occasions, including the "cenotes" (natural pits, typical in the region) which I strongly recommend. The house is located in the Yucatan peninsula, a historic cradle for pre-Columbian civilizations. Hence we also had the opportunity to visit various well-preserved Mayan sites. Last but not least, the closest village offered all the needed shops to buy food and supplies, as well as animated bars and restaurants. I certainly hope to go back to Casona Palms in the future.

“If you are in search of a stunning and secluded villa, look no further!”

Reviewed 26 May 2015

My wife and another couple spent an amazing five nights at Villa Casona Palms! When on vacation we always search for seclusion and try to avoid crowds and large resorts; this home was exactly what we were looking for. You have your own beautiful private beach and town is only 30 min away, so heading to town to shop or go out to eat is not an inconvenience at all. We spent most of our time paddling the kayaks, snorkeling, fishing and looking for lion fish to spear for dinner. If you like to snorkel, the reef is a short 400 meter paddle to a very nice reef (the caretakers can provide an anchor for the kayaks). If you don't feel like paddling out to the reef, some nice snorkeling can be had inside the reef within walking distance from the house, just make sure to have water shoes or strap on sandals. The caretakers were absolutely wonderful. The beach was groomed every morning at sunrise and the house was cleaned daily. The caretakers are very sweet and are happy to help you out with anything you might need. Michael certainly has two great employees. This villa is absolutely stunning and extremely well maintained. When we arrived I even commented to my wife that the pictures did not do it justice. It has a well stocked kitchen and is impeccably clean. The bedrooms are large, the bathrooms are very nice, the beds comfortable and the breeze keeps them very comfortable at night. Michael is very organized and extremely efficient when it comes to communication. The guest book that he has created is invaluable; it is well organized and provides all the information that one could possibly need. His recommendations on restaurants and places to shop for groceries on the way down are spot on. We did find a small shop in town that provides high quality deli meat, cheeses, chicken and fish that I highly recommend if you need to stock up throughout your stay. I can't remember the name of the small shop, but it is one block off the beach road and about half way to the end of the main strip on the right hand side. I'm sure Michael can provide more information on the shop. The drive down from Cancun is nothing to be concerned about. You simply follow one highway (good condition) for the majority of the way. Just keep an eye out for speed bumps and you will be just fine. We will certainly be back!

“Gorgeous relaxing Caribbean villa”

Reviewed 17 Feb 2014

Everything that past reviewers have said about Casona Palms is true. It is truly a Caribbean paradise, private, secluded, quiet, and absolutely beautiful. The atmosphere encourages you to sit still and relax while soaking in the gorgeous view of the sea and listening to the wind rustle in the coconut palms. The beach is kept raked clean by the caretakers, the kayaks are ready for your use, and the lounge chairs await you and a good book. The house is pristine, tasteful, and more than comfortable. Michael the owner provided us with extremely helpful and complete information on the house and surrounding area, including great driving directions. We enjoyed trips to the village of Majahual, quiet and lazy when the cruise ships are not in, but more shops are open on cruise ship days. You can occupy a table on the beach and slip in the water for a swim between margaritas. There is a great pescaderia that sells fish and lobster fresh off the boats every afternoon. Ask around for antonio the owner. We enjoyed an excursion to the stunning Mayan ruins of Chocchoban. We went on a day when the cruise ships were not in and had the entire place to ourselves. We spent a couple days with Nick Denbow, a delightful local fishing guide and British expat. The men in our group went bone fishing with him one day on a nearby lagoon, and our entire group went bird and wildlife watching with him on the border between Mexico and Belize. We experienced dozens of stingrays swimming past our boats and leaping in the air in the Chetumal Bay and were thrilled by gentle giant manatees approaching our boat in the river. I can recommend Casona Palms without hesitation.

“Amazing vacation...exceeded our expectations”

The house is really amazing, filled with high end details all over the place. The house is fully equipped with everything you need. Very spacious rooms (with a terrace) and bathrooms. The design is extremely functional, it even allows you to enjoy the brezze from the inside. The location is perfect if you want to get lost and really relax. The reefs are about one kilometer from the house. You really wake to the sound of the sea to enjoy the view of the caribbean. 100% recommended.

“Hidden Gem”

Almost tempted to write a terrible review so I can keep this place all to myself...but honesty must prevail. Best vacation getaway I have ever experienced. Escape the crowds of Cancun and drive down for amazing fishing and snorkeling in secluded luxury. The caretaker, Mario, caught us some fresh red snapper which we later cooked on the grill. We also spent an amazing day fishing the lagoons with guide Nick Denbow.

“Incredible time at Villa Casona Palms!”

Reviewed 16 Jul 2012

If you're looking for a serene paradise, you've found your vacation rental. We were so amazed when we first arrived at Villa Casona Palms. The grounds were pristine, the house was cool and comfortable, and the amenities were all we needed and more. The warm welcome from angelina and Mario was great. This is the first time we've ever stayed at a vacation rental, and we were exceedingly impressed with the accommodations and the ease in which we settled into this new experience. Mario opened coconuts for us, which was fantastic. Mario and angelina really made us feel welcomed and pampered the entire stay. And my goodness... the snorkeling in this area was out of sight! We took the kayaks out a couple times. We found an awe-inspiring set of coral-heads, with an abundance of fish, coral, sea stars and rays, directly in front of the villa!!! The beds were comfortable, the kitchen had all needed utensils, the appliances were up-to-date and eco-friendly. Over-all, the only thing that might have made it better was a family to share it with! Michael was exceedingly communicative before our vacation, and even when we had significant trouble with the airline the day we were to arrive, he kept in constant contact, and we really appreciated the sincere concern he showed regarding our travel plans. Everything about this vacation was perfect for what we were looking for- excellent service, communicative owner, pristine serenity and gracious accommodations. We highly recommend this rental, and will return as soon as humanly possible. We could not have asked for more. Note: I apologize about the underwater photo quality... our camera did little justice to the beauty of the underwater experience in front of the Villa Casona Palms beach.

“Ultimate relaxation”

Reviewed 9 Apr 2012

We just spent 9 amazing nights at Villa Casona Palms. My wife and two girls ages 13 and 11 had a great time being "unplugged" and away from it all. Mario and angelina are great hosts and caretakers. The villa is very large and open with a great layout, it has beautiful wooden doors and windows. There was always a nice breeze off the water and the villa stays nice and cool even on hot days. The little town of Mahahual is about 30-45 min away by car. We went into town for dinner most nights. Several great spots to choose from: Fernandos was good and inexpensive, Tropicante and Nohoch Kay were good as well. Everyone was very friendly, the Pemex just outside Mahahual was good to us (no ripoffs) just make sure they zero out the previous purchase. We always tipped the fueler a few dollars. We have driven in this area of Mexico before but never south of Tulum. I wouldn't let the drive intimidate you. The roads have been improving over the years and the signs are accurate. Just pay attention and use some good defensive driving, some cars will drive quite fast and many others will be on the slow side. Michael sent us an email before we left with a lot of good information in it for your stay. He was great to work with and has a good reputation in town. We talked to several people who all agreed it is probably the nicest villa on the Costa Maya. We ended up getting to the villa just after midnight and felt bad about waking Mario but he gladly let us in the villa and showed us a few things inside and then let us move in. If you don't want to do the drive at night or have to leave early in the morning to catch your flight home you can stay in Cancun one night which is what we did on the way home. If you choose to "hang out" around the villa its perfect for that. If you want a little more adventure there's plenty of that as well.

“Absolutely Wonderful!”

We were the luck first guests to stay at this newly constructed Villa(Dec 2011). Needless to say it was perfect for our family of 5(but could accomodate 8). The villa is 35 kilometers north of Majahual. Mario and angelina the caretakers were very helpful. I highly recommend this place if you want privacy and a quiet place to get away from it all. There are kayaks and you can beachcomb, fish and snorkel. The villa is very well set up, comfortable and in a secure area. Pack plenty of food as you are 30-45 minutes away from the nearest store and plan for an adventure!
