Situated on the edge of the North York Moors, Argil Cottage is a luxury home from home for up to four people. We're in the middle of a quiet village on the rural Vale of Pickering, within easy reach of the best that the North York Moors has to offer. The spectacular Moors themselves, the Yorkshire Heritage Coast and the outstanding area of natural beauty on the Hambleton Hills are on our doorstep. It's also a great base from which to explore historic York, the traditional seaside resort of Scarborough and the fishing town of Whitby.

At Argil Cottage, we've kept the period features of a traditional detached village cottage, but equipped it with everything you need to get the best out of your stay. I find the cottage works particularly well for families, with two double and one single bedroom, there's a lot of flexibility. There's also a family bathroom, downstairs WC, fully-equipped kitchen and a laundry and utility room so you can keep the family running for the whole week in the countryside.

Outside the school holidays, the cottage is great for a couple's romantic break away. There's the extra space and luxury that comes with a good-sized cottage, but the cosiness and intimacy of the log fire and the rural North York Moors setting.

Getting around

Ryedale is a properly rural area, which means that you'll probably want to have a car to see the best of it. There is a mainline station at Malton (which is closest) and then a bus to Great Barugh - although it doesn't run every day. If you were thinking about a car-free stay, bike would be the best bet (possibly with a taxi from the station with your luggage). If you're interested in coming on a cycling holiday or using your bikes as your main means of transport, drop me a line and I'll chat through some ideas. I'm a keen cyclist myself and take my bike to the cottage lots.

Interaction with guest

I don't live in the same village as the cottage so I won't be around lots. But I do try to pop in during the week and see how you are getting on and if I can, I'll be there to hand over your keys or see you when you leave. Basically, you've got the place to yourself, but I'd always like to say hello at some point and I'm only a short drive away if you need me to come over for anything.

How do damage deposits work?

You can request to change the dates or number of people on your booking via the Manage your booking page. To change your dates use the Edit booking button. If you need to change the number of guests staying then send Kathy (the owner) a message.

If Kathy (the owner) agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
